But you are worth ten thousand of us; therefore now it is better that you be ready to help us from the city."(nasb) 2Sa 18:3 καὶ εἶπαν οá½Îº á¼Î¾ÎµÎ»Îµá½»Ïƒá¿ƒ ὅτι á¼á½°Î½ φυγῇ φύγωμεν οὠθήσουσιν á¼Ï†á¾½ ἡμᾶς καÏδίαν καὶ á¼á½°Î½ ἀποθάνωμεν τὸ ἥμισυ ἡμῶν οὠθήσουσιν á¼Ï†á¾½ ἡμᾶς καÏδίαν ὅτι σὺ ὡς ἡμεῖς δέκα χιλιάδες καὶ νῦν ἀγαθὸν ὅτι ἔσῃ ἡμῖν á¼Î½ τῇ πόλει βοήθεια τοῦ βοηθεῖν (lxx) 2Sa 18:3 Et respondit populus: Non exibis: sive enim fugerimus, non magnopere ad eos de nobis pertinebit: sive media pars ceciderit e nobis, non satis curabunt, quia tu unus pro decem millibus computaris: melius est igitur ut sis nobis in urbe præsidio.(vulgate) 2Sa 18:3 Aber das Volk sprach: Du sollst nicht ausziehen; denn ob wir gleich fliehen oder die Hälfte sterben, so werden sie unser nicht achten; denn du bist wie unser zehntausend; so ist's nun besser, daß du uns von der Stadt aus helfen mögst.(dhs) 2Sa 18:3 But the people answered, "You shall not go out! For if we flee away, they will not care about us; nor if half of us die, will they care about us. But you are worth ten thousand of us now. So the king stood beside the gate, and all the people went out by hundreds and thousands.(nasb) 2Sa 18:4 καὶ εἶπεν Ï€Ïὸς αá½Ï„οὺς ὠβασιλεύς ὃ á¼á½°Î½ á¼€Ïέσῃ á¼Î½ ὀφθαλμοῖς ὑμῶν ποιήσω καὶ ἔστη ὠβασιλεὺς ἀνὰ χεῖÏα τῆς πύλης καὶ πᾶς ὠλαὸς á¼Î¾ÎµÏ€Î¿Ïεύετο εἰς ἑκατοντάδας καὶ εἰς χιλιάδας (lxx) 2Sa 18:4 Ad quos rex ait: Quod vobis videtur rectum, hoc faciam. Stetit ergo rex juxta portam: egrediebaturque populus per turmas suas centeni et milleni.(vulgate) 2Sa 18:4 Der König sprach zu ihnen: Was euch gefällt, das will ich tun. Und der König trat ans Tor, und alles Volk zog aus bei Hunderten und bei Tausenden.(dhs) 2Sa 18:4 Then the king said to them, "Whatever seems best to you I will do." So the king stood beside the gate, and all the people went out by hundreds and by thousands.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 18:5 ============ 2Sa 18:5 The king charged Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, "Deal gently for my sake with the young man Absalom." And all the people heard when the king charged all the commanders concerning Absalom.(nasb) 2Sa 18:5 καὶ á¼Î½ÎµÏ„είλατο ὠβασιλεὺς τῷ Ιωαβ καὶ τῷ Αβεσσα καὶ τῷ Εθθι λέγων φείσασθέ μοι τοῦ παιδαÏίου τοῦ Αβεσσαλωμ καὶ πᾶς ὠλαὸς ἤκουσεν á¼Î½Ï„ελλομένου τοῦ βασιλέως πᾶσιν τοῖς ἄÏχουσιν á½‘Ï€á½²Ï Î‘Î²ÎµÏƒÏƒÎ±Î»Ï‰Î¼ (lxx) 2Sa 18:5 Et præcepit rex Joab, et Abisai, et Ethai, dicens: Servate mihi puerum Absalom. And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains orders concerning Absalom.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 18:6 ============ 2Sa 18:6 Then the people went out into the field against Israel, and the battle took place in the forest of Ephraim.(nasb) 2Sa 18:6 καὶ á¼Î¾á¿†Î»Î¸ÎµÎ½ πᾶς ὠλαὸς εἰς τὸν δÏυμὸν á¼Î¾ á¼Î½Î±Î½Ï„ίας ΙσÏαηλ καὶ á¼Î³á½³Î½ÎµÏ„ο ὠπόλεμος á¼Î½ τῷ δÏυμῷ ΕφÏαιμ (lxx) 2Sa 18:6 Itaque egressus est populus in campum contra Israël, et factum est prælium in saltu Ephraim.(vulgate) 2Sa 18:6 Und da das Volk hinauskam aufs Feld, Israel entgegen, erhob sich der Streit im Walde Ephraim.(dhs) 2Sa 18:6 So the people went out into the field of battle against Israel. And the battle was in the woods of Ephraim.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 18:7 ============ 2Sa 18:7 The people of Israel were defeated there before the servants of David, and the slaughter there that day was great, 20,000 men.(nasb) 2Sa 18:7 καὶ ἔπταισεν á¼ÎºÎµá¿– ὠλαὸς ΙσÏαηλ á¼Î½á½½Ï€Î¹Î¿Î½ τῶν παίδων Δαυιδ καὶ á¼Î³á½³Î½ÎµÏ„ο ἡ θÏαῦσις μεγάλη á¼Î½ τῇ ἡμέÏá¾³ á¼ÎºÎµá½·Î½á¿ƒ εἴκοσι χιλιάδες ἀνδÏῶν (lxx) 2Sa 18:7 Et cæsus est ibi populus Israël ab exercitu David, factaque est plaga magna in die illa, viginti millium.(vulgate) 2Sa 18:7 Und das Volk Israel ward daselbst geschlagen vor den Knechten Davids, daß desselben Tages eine große Schlacht geschah, zwanzigtausend Mann.(dhs) 2Sa 18:7 The people of Israel were overthrown there before the servants of David, and a great slaughter of twenty thousand took place there that day.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 18:8 ============ 2Sa 18:8 For the battle there was spread over the whole countryside, and the forest devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.(nasb) 2Sa 18:8 καὶ á¼Î³á½³Î½ÎµÏ„ο á¼ÎºÎµá¿– ὠπόλεμος διεσπαÏμένος á¼Ï€á½¶ Ï€Ïόσωπον πάσης τῆς γῆς καὶ á¼Ï€Î»Îµá½¹Î½Î±ÏƒÎµÎ½ ὠδÏυμὸς τοῦ καταφαγεῖν á¼Îº τοῦ λαοῦ á½‘Ï€á½²Ï Î¿á½“Ï‚ κατέφαγεν á¼Î½ τῷ λαῷ ἡ μάχαιÏα á¼Î½ τῇ ἡμέÏá¾³ á¼ÎºÎµá½·Î½á¿ƒ (lxx) 2Sa 18:8 Fuit autem ibi prælium dispersum super faciem omnis terræ, et multo plures erant quos saltus consumpserat de populo, quam hi quos voraverat gladius in die illa.(vulgate) 2Sa 18:8 Und war daselbst der Streit zerstreut auf allem Lande; und der Wald fraß viel mehr Volk des Tages, denn das Schwert fraß.(dhs) 2Sa 18:8 For the battle there was scattered over the face of the whole countryside, and the woods devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 18:9 ============ 2Sa 18:9 Now Absalom happened to meet the servants of David. For Absalom was riding on his mule, and the mule went under the thick branches of a great oak. And his head caught fast in the oak, so he was left hanging between heaven and earth, while the mule that was under him kept going.(nasb) 2Sa 18:9 καὶ συνήντησεν Αβεσσαλωμ á¼Î½á½½Ï€Î¹Î¿Î½ τῶν παίδων Δαυιδ καὶ Αβεσσαλωμ á¼Ï€Î¹Î²ÎµÎ²Î·Îºá½¼Ï‚ á¼Ï€á½¶ τοῦ ἡμιόνου αá½Ï„οῦ καὶ εἰσῆλθεν ὠἡμίονος ὑπὸ τὸ δάσος τῆς δÏυὸς τῆς μεγάλης καὶ á¼ÎºÏεμάσθη ἡ κεφαλὴ αá½Ï„οῦ á¼Î½ τῇ δÏÏ…á½· καὶ á¼ÎºÏεμάσθη ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ οá½Ïανοῦ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον τῆς γῆς καὶ ὠἡμίονος ὑποκάτω αá½Ï„οῦ παÏῆλθεν (lxx) 2Sa 18:9 Accidit autem ut occurreret Absalom servis David, sedens mulo: cumque ingressus fuisset mulus subter condensam quercum et magnam, adhæsit caput ejus quercui: et illo suspenso inter cælum et terram, mulus cui insederat, pertransivit.(vulgate) 2Sa 18:9 Und Absalom begegnete den Knechten Davids und ritt auf einem Maultier. Und da das Maultier unter eine große Eiche mit dichten Zweigen kam, blieb sein Haupt an der Eiche hangen, und er schwebte zwischen Himmel und Erde; aber sein Maultier lief unter ihm weg.(dhs) 2Sa 18:9 Then Absalom met the servants of David. Absalom rode on a mule. The mule went under the thick boughs of a great terebinth tree, and his head caught in the terebinth; so he was left hanging between heaven and earth. And the mule which was under him went on.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 18:10 ============ 2Sa 18:10 When a certain man saw it, he told Joab and said, "Behold, I saw Absalom hanging in an oak."(nasb) 2Sa 18:10 καὶ εἶδεν á¼€Î½á½´Ï Îµá¼·Ï‚ καὶ ἀνήγγειλεν Ιωαβ καὶ εἶπεν ἰδοὺ ἑώÏακα τὸν Αβεσσαλωμ κÏεμάμενον á¼Î½ τῇ δÏÏ…á½· (lxx) 2Sa 18:10 Vidit autem hoc quispiam, et nuntiavit Joab, dicens: Vidi Absalom pendere de quercu.(vulgate) 2Sa 18:10 Da das ein Mann sah, sagte er's Joab an und sprach: Siehe, ich sah Absalom an einer Eiche hangen.(dhs) 2Sa 18:10 Now a certain man saw it and told Joab, and said, "I just saw Absalom hanging in a terebinth tree!"(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 18:11 ============ 2Sa 18:11 Then Joab said to the man who had told him, "Now behold, you saw him! Why then did you not strike him there to the ground? And I would have given you ten pieces of silver and a belt."(nasb) 2Sa 18:11 καὶ εἶπεν Ιωαβ τῷ ἀνδÏá½¶ τῷ ἀπαγγέλλοντι καὶ ἰδοὺ ἑόÏακας τί ὅτι οá½Îº á¼Ï€á½±Ï„αξας αá½Ï„ὸν εἰς τὴν γῆν καὶ á¼Î³á½¼ ἂν δεδώκειν σοι δέκα á¼€ÏγυÏίου καὶ παÏαζώνην μίαν (lxx) 2Sa 18:11 Et ait Joab viro qui nuntiaverat ei: Si vidisti, quare non confodisti eum cum terra, et ego dedissem tibi decem argenti siclos, et unum balteum?(vulgate) 2Sa 18:11 Und Joab sprach zu dem Mann, der's ihm hatte angesagt: Siehe, sahst du das, warum schlugst du ihn nicht daselbst zur Erde? so wollte ich dir von meinetwegen zehn Silberlinge und einen Gürtel gegeben haben.(dhs) 2Sa 18:11 So Joab said to the man who told him, "You just saw him! And why did you not strike him there to the ground? For in our hearing the king commanded you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, 'Beware lest anyone touch the young man Absalom!'(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 18:13 ============ 2Sa 18:13 Otherwise, if I had dealt treacherously against his life (and there is nothing hidden from the king), then you yourself would have stood aloof."(nasb) 2Sa 18:13 μὴ ποιῆσαι á¼Î½ τῇ ψυχῇ αá½Ï„οῦ ἄδικον καὶ πᾶς ὠλόγος οὠλήσεται ἀπὸ τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ σὺ στήσῃ á¼Î¾ á¼Î½Î±Î½Ï„ίας (lxx) 2Sa 18:13 Sed etsi fecissem contra animam meam audacter, nequaquam hoc regem latere potuisset, et tu stares ex adverso?(vulgate) 2Sa 18:13 Oder wenn ich etwas Falsches getan hätte auf meiner Seele Gefahr, weil dem König nichts verhohlen wird, würdest du selbst wider mich gestanden sein.(dhs) 2Sa 18:13 Otherwise I would have dealt falsely against my own life. So he took three spears in his hand and thrust them through the heart of Absalom while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.(nasb) 2Sa 18:14 καὶ εἶπεν Ιωαβ τοῦτο á¼Î³á½¼ ἄÏξομαι οá½Ï‡ οὕτως μενῶ á¼Î½á½½Ï€Î¹á½¹Î½ σου καὶ ἔλαβεν Ιωαβ Ï„Ïία βέλη á¼Î½ τῇ χειÏá½¶ αá½Ï„οῦ καὶ á¼Î½á½³Ï€Î·Î¾ÎµÎ½ αá½Ï„á½° á¼Î½ τῇ καÏδίᾳ Αβεσσαλωμ ἔτι αá½Ï„οῦ ζῶντος á¼Î½ τῇ καÏδίᾳ τῆς δÏυὸς (lxx) 2Sa 18:14 Et ait Joab: Non sicut tu vis, sed aggrediar eum coram te. Tulit ergo tres lanceas in manu sua, et infixit eas in corde Absalom: cumque adhuc palpitaret hærens in quercu,(vulgate) 2Sa 18:14 Joab sprach: Ich kann nicht so lange bei dir verziehen. Da nahm Joab drei Spieße in sein Hand und stieß sie Absalom ins Herz, da er noch lebte an der Eiche.(dhs) 2Sa 18:14 Then Joab said, "I cannot linger with you." And he took three spears in his hand and thrust them through Absalom's heart, while he was still alive in the midst of the terebinth tree.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 18:15 ============ 2Sa 18:15 And ten young men who carried Joab's armor gathered around and struck Absalom and killed him.(nasb) 2Sa 18:15 καὶ á¼Îºá½»ÎºÎ»Ï‰ÏƒÎ±Î½ δέκα παιδάÏια αἴÏοντα τὰ σκεύη Ιωαβ καὶ á¼Ï€á½±Ï„αξαν τὸν Αβεσσαλωμ καὶ á¼Î¸Î±Î½á½±Ï„ωσαν αá½Ï„όν (lxx) 2Sa 18:15 cucurrerunt decem juvenes armigeri Joab, et percutientes interfecerunt eum.(vulgate) 2Sa 18:15 Und zehn Knappen, Joabs Waffenträger, machten sich umher und schlugen ihn zu Tod.(dhs) 2Sa 18:15 And ten young men who bore Joab's armor surrounded Absalom, and struck and killed him.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 18:16 ============ 2Sa 18:16 Then Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing Israel, for Joab restrained the people.(nasb) 2Sa 18:16 καὶ á¼Ïƒá½±Î»Ï€Î¹ÏƒÎµÎ½ Ιωαβ á¼Î½ κεÏατίνῃ καὶ ἀπέστÏεψεν ὠλαὸς τοῦ μὴ διώκειν ὀπίσω ΙσÏαηλ ὅτι á¼Ï†Îµá½·Î´ÎµÏ„ο Ιωαβ τοῦ λαοῦ (lxx) 2Sa 18:16 Cecinit autem Joab buccina, et retinuit populum, ne persequeretur fugientem Israël, volens parcere multitudini.(vulgate) 2Sa 18:16 Da blies Joab die Posaune und brachte das Volk wieder, daß es nicht weiter Israel nachjagte; denn Joab wollte das Volk schonen.(dhs) 2Sa 18:16 So Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing Israel. For Joab held back the people.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 18:17 ============ 2Sa 18:17 They took Absalom and cast him into a deep pit in the forest and erected over him a very great heap of stones. And all Israel fled, each to his tent.(nasb) 2Sa 18:17 καὶ ἔλαβεν τὸν Αβεσσαλωμ καὶ á¼”ÏÏιψεν αá½Ï„ὸν εἰς χάσμα μέγα á¼Î½ τῷ δÏυμῷ εἰς τὸν βόθυνον τὸν μέγαν καὶ á¼ÏƒÏ„ήλωσεν á¼Ï€á¾½ αá½Ï„ὸν σωÏὸν λίθων μέγαν σφόδÏα καὶ πᾶς ΙσÏαηλ ἔφυγεν á¼€Î½á½´Ï Îµá¼°Ï‚ τὸ σκήνωμα αá½Ï„οῦ (lxx) 2Sa 18:17 Et tulerunt Absalom, et projecerunt eum in saltu, in foveam grandem, et comportaverunt super eum acervum lapidum magnum nimis: omnis autem Israël fugit in tabernacula sua.(vulgate) 2Sa 18:17 Und sie nahmen Absalom und warfen ihn in den Wald in eine große Grube und legten einen sehr großen Haufen Steine auf ihn. Und das ganze Israel floh, ein jeglicher in seine Hütte.(dhs) 2Sa 18:17 And they took Absalom and cast him into a large pit in the woods, and laid a very large heap of stones over him. Then all Israel fled, everyone to his tent.(nkjv) ======= 2 Samuel 18:18 ============ 2Sa 18:18 Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and set up for himself a pillar which is in the King's Valley, for he said, "I have no son to preserve my name."
