Now I had never been sad in his presence before.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 2:2 ============ Neh 2:2 So the king said to me, "Why is your face sad though you are not sick? This is nothing but sadness of heart." Then I was very much afraid.(nasb) Neh 2:2 καὶ εἶπέν μοι ὠβασιλεύς διὰ τί τὸ Ï€Ïόσωπόν σου πονηÏὸν καὶ οá½Îº εἶ μετÏιάζων οá½Îº ἔστιν τοῦτο εἰ μὴ πονηÏία καÏδίας καὶ á¼Ï†Î¿Î²á½µÎ¸Î·Î½ πολὺ σφόδÏα (lxx) Neh 2:2 Dixitque mihi rex: Quare vultus tuus tristis est, cum te ægrotum non videam? non est hoc frustra, sed malum nescio quod in corde tuo est. Et timui valde, ac nimis:(vulgate) Neh 2:2 Da sprach der König zu mir: Warum siehst du so übel? Du bist ja nicht krank? Das ist's nicht, sondern du bist schwermütig. Ich aber fürchtete mich gar sehr(dhs) Neh 2:2 Therefore the king said to me, "Why is your face sad, since you are not sick? This is nothing but sorrow of heart." So I became dreadfully afraid,(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 2:3 ============ Neh 2:3 I said to the king, "Let the king live forever. Why should my face not be sad when the city, the place of my fathers' tombs, lies desolate and its gates have been consumed by fire?"(nasb) Neh 2:3 καὶ εἶπα τῷ βασιλεῖ ὠβασιλεὺς εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα ζήτω διὰ τί οὠμὴ γένηται πονηÏὸν τὸ Ï€Ïόσωπόν μου διότι ἡ πόλις οἶκος μνημείων πατέÏων μου á¼ Ïημώθη καὶ αἱ πύλαι αá½Ï„ῆς κατεβÏώθησαν á¼Î½ πυÏá½· (lxx) Neh 2:3 et dixi regi: Rex, in æternum vive: quare non mÅ“reat vultus meus, quia civitas domus sepulchrorum patris mei deserta est, et portæ ejus combustæ sunt igni?(vulgate) Neh 2:3 und sprach zu dem König: Der König lebe ewiglich! Sollte ich nicht übel sehen? Die Stadt da das Begräbnis meiner Väter ist, liegt wüst, und ihre Tore sind mit Feuer verzehrt.(dhs) Neh 2:3 and said to the king, "May the king live forever! Why should my face not be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers' tombs, lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire?"(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 2:4 ============ Neh 2:4 Then the king said to me, "What would you request?" So I prayed to the God of heaven.(nasb) Neh 2:4 καὶ εἶπέν μοι ὠβασιλεύς πεÏá½¶ τίνος τοῦτο σὺ ζητεῖς καὶ Ï€Ïοσηυξάμην Ï€Ïὸς τὸν θεὸν τοῦ οá½Ïανοῦ (lxx) Neh 2:4 Et ait mihi rex: Pro qua re postulas? Et oravi Deum cæli,(vulgate) Neh 2:4 Da sprach der König: Was forderst du denn? da betete ich zu dem Gott des Himmels(dhs) Neh 2:4 Then the king said to me, "What do you request?" So I prayed to the God of heaven.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 2:5 ============ Neh 2:5 I said to the king, "If it please the king, and if your servant has found favor before you, send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers' tombs, that I may rebuild it."(nasb) Neh 2:5 καὶ εἶπα τῷ βασιλεῖ εἰ á¼Ï€á½¶ τὸν βασιλέα ἀγαθόν καὶ εἰ ἀγαθυνθήσεται ὠπαῖς σου á¼Î½á½½Ï€Î¹á½¹Î½ σου ὥστε πέμψαι αá½Ï„ὸν εἰς Ιουδα εἰς πόλιν μνημείων πατέÏων μου καὶ ἀνοικοδομήσω αá½Ï„ήν (lxx) Neh 2:5 et dixi ad regem: Si videtur regi bonum, et si placet servus tuus ante faciem tuam, ut mittas me in Judæam ad civitatem sepulchri patris mei, et ædificabo eam.(vulgate) Neh 2:5 und sprach zum König: Gefällt es dem König und ist dein Knecht angenehm vor dir, so wollest du mich senden nach Juda zu der Stadt des Begräbnisses meiner Väter, daß ich sie baue.(dhs) Neh 2:5 And I said to the king, "If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor in your sight, I ask that you send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers' tombs, that I may rebuild it."(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 2:6 ============ Neh 2:6 Then the king said to me, the queen sitting beside him, "How long will your journey be, and when will you return?" So it pleased the king to send me, and I gave him a definite time.(nasb) Neh 2:6 καὶ εἶπέν μοι ὠβασιλεὺς καὶ ἡ παλλακὴ ἡ καθημένη á¼Ï‡á½¹Î¼ÎµÎ½Î± αá½Ï„οῦ ἕως πότε ἔσται ἡ ποÏεία σου καὶ πότε á¼Ï€Î¹ÏƒÏ„Ïέψεις καὶ ἠγαθύνθη á¼Î½á½½Ï€Î¹Î¿Î½ τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ ἀπέστειλέν με καὶ ἔδωκα αá½Ï„á¿· á½…Ïον (lxx) Neh 2:6 Dixitque mihi rex, et regina quæ sedebat juxta eum: Usque ad quod tempus erit iter tuum, et quando reverteris? Et placuit ante vultum regis, et misit me: et constitui ei tempus.(vulgate) Neh 2:6 Und der König sprach zu mir und die Königin, die neben ihm saß: Wie lange wird deine Reise währen, und wann wirst du wiederkommen? Und es gefiel dem König, daß er mich hinsendete. Und ich setzte ihm eine bestimmte Zeit(dhs) Neh 2:6 Then the king said to me (the queen also sitting beside him), "How long will your journey be? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 2:7 ============ Neh 2:7 And I said to the king, "If it please the king, let letters be given me for the governors of the provinces beyond the River, that they may allow me to pass through until I come to Judah,(nasb) Neh 2:7 καὶ εἶπα τῷ βασιλεῖ εἰ á¼Ï€á½¶ τὸν βασιλέα ἀγαθόν δότω μοι á¼Ï€Î¹ÏƒÏ„ολὰς Ï€Ïὸς τοὺς á¼Ï€á½±Ïχους πέÏαν τοῦ ποταμοῦ ὥστε παÏαγαγεῖν με ἕως ἔλθω á¼Ï€á½¶ Ιουδαν (lxx) Neh 2:7 Et dixi regi: Si regi videtur bonum, epistolas det mihi ad duces regionis trans flumen, ut traducant me, donec veniam in Judæam:(vulgate) Neh 2:7 und sprach zum König: Gefällt es dem König, so gebe man mir Briefe an die Landpfleger jenseit des Wassers, daß sie mich hinübergeleiten, bis ich komme nach Juda,(dhs) Neh 2:7 Furthermore I said to the king, "If it pleases the king, let letters be given to me for the governors of the region beyond the River, that they must permit me to pass through till I come to Judah,(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 2:8 ============ Neh 2:8 and a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king's forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the fortress which is by the temple, for the wall of the city and for the house to which I will go." And the king granted them to me because the good hand of my God was on me.(nasb) Neh 2:8 καὶ á¼Ï€Î¹ÏƒÏ„ολὴν á¼Ï€á½¶ Ασαφ φύλακα τοῦ παÏαδείσου á½…Ï‚ á¼ÏƒÏ„ιν τῷ βασιλεῖ ὥστε δοῦναί μοι ξύλα στεγάσαι τὰς πύλας καὶ εἰς τὸ τεῖχος τῆς πόλεως καὶ εἰς οἶκον ὃν εἰσελεύσομαι εἰς αá½Ï„όν καὶ ἔδωκέν μοι ὠβασιλεὺς ὡς Ï‡Îµá½¶Ï Î¸ÎµÎ¿á¿¦ ἡ ἀγαθή (lxx) Neh 2:8 et epistolam ad Asaph custodem saltus regis, ut det mihi ligna, ut tegere possim portas turris domus, et muros civitatis, et domum quam ingressus fuero. Et dedit mihi rex juxta manum Dei mei bonam mecum.(vulgate) Neh 2:8 und Briefe an Asaph den Holzfürsten des Königs, daß er mir Holz gebe zu Balken der Pforten an der Burg beim Tempel und zu der Stadtmauer und zum Hause, da ich einziehen soll. Und der König gab mir nach der guten Hand meines Gottes über mir.(dhs) Neh 2:8 and a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king's forest, that he must give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel which pertains to the temple, for the city wall, and for the house that I will occupy." And the king granted them to me according to the good hand of my God upon me.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 2:9 ============ Neh 2:9 Then I came to the governors of the provinces beyond the River and gave them the king's letters. Now the king had sent with me officers of the army and horsemen.(nasb) Neh 2:9 καὶ ἦλθον Ï€Ïὸς τοὺς á¼Ï€á½±Ïχους πέÏαν τοῦ ποταμοῦ καὶ ἔδωκα αá½Ï„οῖς τὰς á¼Ï€Î¹ÏƒÏ„ολὰς τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ ἀπέστειλεν μετ᾽ á¼Î¼Î¿á¿¦ ὠβασιλεὺς á¼€Ïχηγοὺς δυνάμεως καὶ ἱππεῖς (lxx) Neh 2:9 Et veni ad duces regionis trans flumen, dedique eis epistolas regis. Miserat autem rex mecum principes militum, et equites.(vulgate) Neh 2:9 Und da ich kam zu den Landpflegern jenseit des Wassers, gab ich ihnen des Königs Briefe. Und der König sandte mit mir Hauptleute und Reiter.(dhs) Neh 2:9 Then I went to the governors in the region beyond the River, and gave them the king's letters. Now the king had sent captains of the army and horsemen with me.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 2:10 ============ Neh 2:10 When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite official heard about it, it was very displeasing to them that someone had come to seek the welfare of the sons of Israel.(nasb) Neh 2:10 καὶ ἤκουσεν Σαναβαλλατ ὠΑÏωνι καὶ Τωβια ὠδοῦλος ὠΑμμωνι καὶ πονηÏὸν αá½Ï„οῖς á¼Î³á½³Î½ÎµÏ„ο ὅτι ἥκει ἄνθÏωπος ζητῆσαι ἀγαθὸν τοῖς υἱοῖς ΙσÏαηλ (lxx) Neh 2:10 Et audierunt Sanaballat Horonites, et Tobias servus Ammanites: et contristati sunt afflictione magna, quod venisset homo qui quæreret prosperitatem filiorum Israël.~(vulgate) Neh 2:10 Da aber das hörten Saneballat, der Horoniter, und Tobia, der ammonitische Knecht, verdroß es sie sehr, daß ein Mensch gekommen wäre, der Gutes suchte für die Kinder Israel.(dhs) Neh 2:10 When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite official heard of it, they were deeply disturbed that a man had come to seek the well-being of the children of Israel.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 2:11 ============ Neh 2:11 So I came to Jerusalem and was there three days.(nasb) Neh 2:11 καὶ ἦλθον εἰς ΙεÏουσαλημ καὶ ἤμην á¼ÎºÎµá¿– ἡμέÏας Ï„Ïεῖς (lxx) Neh 2:11 Et veni Jerusalem, et eram ibi tribus diebus.(vulgate) Neh 2:11 Und da ich gen Jerusalem kam und drei Tage da gewesen war,(dhs) Neh 2:11 So I came to Jerusalem and was there three days.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 2:12 ============ Neh 2:12 And I arose in the night, I and a few men with me. I did not tell anyone what my God was putting into my mind to do for Jerusalem and there was no animal with me except the animal on which I was riding.(nasb) Neh 2:12 καὶ ἀνέστην νυκτὸς á¼Î³á½¼ καὶ ἄνδÏες ὀλίγοι μετ᾽ á¼Î¼Î¿á¿¦ καὶ οá½Îº ἀπήγγειλα ἀνθÏώπῳ τί ὠθεὸς δίδωσιν εἰς καÏδίαν μου τοῦ ποιῆσαι μετὰ τοῦ ΙσÏαηλ καὶ κτῆνος οá½Îº ἔστιν μετ᾽ á¼Î¼Î¿á¿¦ εἰ μὴ τὸ κτῆνος á¾§ á¼Î³á½¼ á¼Ï€Î¹Î²Î±á½·Î½Ï‰ á¼Ï€á¾½ αá½Ï„á¿· (lxx) Neh 2:12 Et surrexi nocte ego, et viri pauci mecum, et non indicavi cuiquam quid Deus dedisset in corde meo ut facerem in Jerusalem: et jumentum non erat mecum, nisi animal cui sedebam.(vulgate) Neh 2:12 machte ich mich des Nachts auf und wenig Männer mit mir (denn ich sagte keinem Menschen, was mir mein Gott eingegeben hatte zu tun an Jerusalem), und war kein Tier mit mir, ohne das, darauf ich ritt.(dhs) Neh 2:12 Then I arose in the night, I and a few men with me; I told no one what my God had put in my heart to do at Jerusalem; nor was there any animal with me, except the one on which I rode.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 2:13 ============ Neh 2:13 So I went out at night by the Valley Gate in the direction of the Dragon's Well and on to the Refuse Gate, inspecting the walls of Jerusalem which were broken down and its gates which were consumed by fire.(nasb) Neh 2:13 καὶ á¼Î¾á¿†Î»Î¸Î¿Î½ á¼Î½ πύλῃ τοῦ γωληλα καὶ Ï€Ïὸς στόμα πηγῆς τῶν συκῶν καὶ εἰς πύλην τῆς κοπÏίας καὶ ἤμην συντÏίβων á¼Î½ τῷ τείχει ΙεÏουσαλημ ὃ αá½Ï„οὶ καθαιÏοῦσιν καὶ πύλαι αá½Ï„ῆς κατεβÏώθησαν πυÏá½· (lxx) Neh 2:13 Et egressus sum per portam vallis nocte, et ante fontem draconis, et ad portam stercoris, et considerabam murum Jerusalem dissipatum, et portas ejus consumptas igni.(vulgate) Neh 2:13 Und ich ritt zum Taltor aus bei der Nacht und gegen den Drachenbrunnen und an das Misttor; und es tat mir wehe, daß die Mauern Jerusalems eingerissen waren und die Tore mit Feuer verzehrt.(dhs) Neh 2:13 And I went out by night through the Valley Gate to the Serpent Well and the Refuse Gate, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem which were broken down and its gates which were burned with fire.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 2:14 ============ Neh 2:14 Then I passed on to the Fountain Gate and the King's Pool, but there was no place for my mount to pass.(nasb) Neh 2:14 καὶ παÏῆλθον á¼Ï€á½¶ πύλην τοῦ Αιν καὶ εἰς κολυμβήθÏαν τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ οá½Îº ἦν τόπος τῷ κτήνει παÏελθεῖν ὑποκάτω μου (lxx) Neh 2:14 Et transivi ad portam fontis, et ad aquæductum regis, et non erat locus jumento cui sedebam ut transiret.(vulgate) Neh 2:14 Und ging hinüber zu dem Brunnentor und zu des Königs Teich; und war da nicht Raum meinem Tier, daß es unter mir hätte gehen können.(dhs) Neh 2:14 Then I went on to the Fountain Gate and to the King's Pool, but there was no room for the animal under me to pass.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 2:15 ============ Neh 2:15 So I went up at night by the ravine and inspected the wall. Then I entered the Valley Gate again and returned.(nasb) Neh 2:15 καὶ ἤμην ἀναβαίνων á¼Î½ τῷ τείχει χειμάÏÏου νυκτὸς καὶ ἤμην συντÏίβων á¼Î½ τῷ τείχει καὶ ἤμην á¼Î½ πύλῃ τῆς φάÏαγγος καὶ á¼Ï€á½³ÏƒÏ„Ïεψα (lxx) Neh 2:15 Et ascendi per torrentem nocte, et considerabam murum, et reversus veni ad portam vallis, et redii.(vulgate) Neh 2:15 Da zog ich bei Nacht den Bach hinan; und es tat mir wehe, die Mauern also zu sehen. Und kehrte um und kam zum Taltor wieder heim.(dhs) Neh 2:15 So I went up in the night by the valley, and viewed the wall; then I turned back and entered by the Valley Gate, and so returned.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 2:16 ============ Neh 2:16 The officials did not know where I had gone or what I had done; nor had I as yet told the Jews, the priests, the nobles, the officials or the rest who did the work.(nasb) Neh 2:16 καὶ οἱ φυλάσσοντες οá½Îº ἔγνωσαν τί á¼Ï€Î¿Ïεύθην καὶ τί á¼Î³á½¼ ποιῶ καὶ τοῖς Ιουδαίοις καὶ τοῖς ἱεÏεῦσιν καὶ τοῖς á¼Î½Ï„ίμοις καὶ τοῖς στÏατηγοῖς καὶ τοῖς καταλοίποις τοῖς ποιοῦσιν τὰ á¼”Ïγα ἕως τότε οá½Îº ἀπήγγειλα (lxx) Neh 2:16 Magistratus autem nesciebant quo abiissem, aut quid ego facerem: sed et Judæis, et sacerdotibus, et optimatibus, et magistratibus, et reliquis qui faciebant opus, usque ad id loci nihil indicaveram.(vulgate) Neh 2:16 Und die Obersten wußten nicht, wo ich hinging oder was ich machte; denn ich hatte bis daher den Juden und den Priestern, den Ratsherren und den Obersten und den andern, die am Werk arbeiteten, nichts gesagt.(dhs) Neh 2:16 And the officials did not know where I had gone or what I had done; I had not yet told the Jews, the priests, the nobles, the officials, or the others who did the work.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 2:17 ============ Neh 2:17 Then I said to them, "You see the bad situation we are in, that Jerusalem is desolate and its gates burned by fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem so that we will no longer be a reproach."(nasb) Neh 2:17 καὶ εἶπα Ï€Ïὸς αá½Ï„ούς ὑμεῖς βλέπετε τὴν πονηÏίαν á¼Î½ á¾— á¼ÏƒÎ¼ÎµÎ½ á¼Î½ αá½Ï„ῇ πῶς ΙεÏουσαλημ á¼”Ïημος καὶ αἱ πύλαι αá½Ï„ῆς á¼Î´á½¹Î¸Î·ÏƒÎ±Î½ πυÏá½· δεῦτε καὶ διοικοδομήσωμεν τὸ τεῖχος ΙεÏουσαλημ καὶ οá½Îº á¼Ïƒá½¹Î¼ÎµÎ¸Î± ἔτι ὄνειδος (lxx) Neh 2:17 Et dixi eis: Vos nostis afflictionem in qua sumus: quia Jerusalem deserta est, et portæ ejus consumptæ sunt igni: venite, et ædificemus muros Jerusalem, et non simus ultra opprobrium.(vulgate) Neh 2:17 Und ich sprach zu ihnen: Ihr seht das Unglück, darin wir sind, daß Jerusalem wüst liegt und seine Tore sind mit Feuer verbrannt. Kommt, laßt uns die Mauern Jerusalems bauen, daß wir nicht mehr eine Schmach seien!(dhs) Neh 2:17 Then I said to them, "You see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come and let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer be a reproach."(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 2:18 ============ Neh 2:18 I told them how the hand of my God had been favorable to me and also about the king's words which he had spoken to me. Then they said, "Let us arise and build." So they put their hands to the good work.(nasb) Neh 2:18 καὶ ἀπήγγειλα αá½Ï„οῖς τὴν χεῖÏα τοῦ θεοῦ á¼¥ á¼ÏƒÏ„ιν ἀγαθὴ á¼Ï€á¾½ á¼Î¼á½³ καὶ τοὺς λόγους τοῦ βασιλέως οὓς εἶπέν μοι καὶ εἶπα ἀναστῶμεν καὶ οἰκοδομήσωμεν καὶ á¼ÎºÏαταιώθησαν αἱ χεῖÏες αá½Ï„ῶν εἰς ἀγαθόν (lxx) Neh 2:18 Et indicavi eis manum Dei mei, quod esset bona mecum, et verba regis quæ locutus esset mihi, et aio: Surgamus, et ædificemus. Et confortatæ sunt manus eorum in bono.(vulgate) Neh 2:18 Und sagte ihnen an die Hand meines Gottes, die gut über mir war, dazu die Worte des Königs, die er zu mir geredet hatte. Und sie sprachen: So laßt uns auf sein und bauen! Und ihre Hände wurden gestärkt zum Guten.(dhs) Neh 2:18 And I told them of the hand of my God which had been good upon me, and also of the king's words that he had spoken to me. So they said, "Let us rise up and build." Then they set their hands to this good work.(nkjv) ======= Nehemiah 2:19 ============ Neh 2:19 But when Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite official, and Geshem the Arab heard it, they mocked us and despised us and said, "What is this thing you are doing? Are you rebelling against the king?"(nasb) Neh 2:19 καὶ ἤκουσεν Σαναβαλλατ ὠΑÏωνι καὶ Τωβια ὠδοῦλος ὠΑμμωνι καὶ Γησαμ ὠΑÏαβι καὶ á¼Î¾ÎµÎ³á½³Î»Î±ÏƒÎ±Î½ ἡμᾶς καὶ ἦλθον á¼Ï†á¾½ ἡμᾶς καὶ εἶπαν τί τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο ὃ ὑμεῖς ποιεῖτε ἦ á¼Ï€á½¶ τὸν βασιλέα ὑμεῖς ἀποστατεῖτε (lxx) Neh 2:19 Audierunt autem Sanaballat Horonites, et Tobias servus Ammanites, et Gosem Arabs, et subsannaverunt nos, et despexerunt, dixeruntque: Quæ est hæc res quam facitis? numquid contra regem vos rebellatis?(vulgate) Neh 2:19 Da aber das Saneballat, der Horoniter und Tobia, der ammonitische Knecht, und Gesem, der Araber, hörten, spotteten sie unser und verachteten uns und sprachen: Was ist das, das ihr tut?
