Ecl 1:4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever. (kjv) Ecl 1:4 Ein Geschlecht vergeht, das andere kommt; die Erde aber bleibt ewiglich. Ecl 1:6 The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits. Ecl 1:6 ἀνατέλλων αὐτὸς ἐκεῖ πορεύεται πρὸς νότον καὶ κυκλοῖ πρὸς βορρᾶν κυκλοῖ κυκλῶν πορεύεται τὸ πνεῦμα καὶ ἐπὶ κύκλους αὐτοῦ ἐπιστρέφει τὸ πνεῦμα ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 1:7 All the rivers flow into the sea, Yet the sea is not full. To the place where the rivers flow, There they flow again. Ecl 1:7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again. Ecl 1:7 πάντες οἱ χείμαρροι πορεύονται εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν καὶ ἡ θάλασσα οὐκ ἔσται ἐμπιμπλαμένη εἰς τόπον οὗ οἱ χείμαρροι πορεύονται ἐκεῖ αὐτοὶ ἐπιστρέφουσιν τοῦ πορευθῆναι ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 1:8 All things are wearisome; Man is not able to tell it. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, Nor is the ear filled with hearing. Ecl 1:8 All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. (kjv) Ecl 1:8 Es sind alle Dinge so voll Mühe, daß es niemand ausreden kann. Das Auge sieht sich nimmer satt, und das Ohr hört sich nimmer satt. Ecl 1:8 πάντες οἱ λόγοι ἔγκοποι οὐ δυνήσεται ἀνὴρ τοῦ λαλεῖν καὶ οὐκ ἐμπλησθήσεται ὀφθαλμὸς τοῦ ὁρᾶν καὶ οὐ πληρωθήσεται οὖς ἀπὸ ἀκροάσεως ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 1:9 That which has been is that which will be, And that which has been done is that which will be done. So there is nothing new under the sun. Ecl 1:9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Already it has existed for ages Which were before us. Ecl 1:10 Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us. Ecl 1:10 ὃς λαλήσει καὶ ἐρεῖ ἰδὲ τοῦτο καινόν ἐστιν ἤδη γέγονεν ἐν τοῖς αἰῶσιν τοῖς γενομένοις ἀπὸ ἔμπροσθεν ἡμῶν ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 1:11 There is no remembrance of earlier things; And also of the later things which will occur, There will be for them no remembrance Among those who will come later still. It is a grievous task which God has given to the sons of men to be afflicted with. Ecl 1:13 And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith. (kjv) Ecl 1:13 und richtete mein Herz zu suchen und zu forschen weislich alles, was man unter dem Himmel tut. Solche unselige Mühe hat Gott den Menschenkindern gegeben, daß sie sich darin müssen quälen. Ecl 1:13 καὶ ἔδωκα τὴν καρδίαν μου τοῦ ἐκζητῆσαι καὶ τοῦ κατασκέψασθαι ἐν τῇ σοφίᾳ περὶ πάντων τῶν γινομένων ὑπὸ τὸν οὐρανόν ὅτι περισπασμὸν πονηρὸν ἔδωκεν ὁ θεὸς τοῖς υἱοῖς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου τοῦ περισπᾶσθαι ἐν αὐτῷ ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 1:14 I have seen all the works which have been done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and striving after wind. Ecl 1:14 εἶδον σὺν πάντα τὰ ποιήματα τὰ πεποιημένα ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον καὶ ἰδοὺ τὰ πάντα ματαιότης καὶ προαίρεσις πνεύματος ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 1:15 What is crooked cannot be straightened and what is lacking cannot be counted. Ecl 1:15 That which is crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered. (kjv) Ecl 1:15 Krumm kann nicht schlicht werden noch, was fehlt, gezählt werden. Ecl 1:15 διεστραμμένον οὐ δυνήσεται τοῦ ἐπικοσμηθῆναι καὶ ὑστέρημα οὐ δυνήσεται τοῦ ἀριθμηθῆναι ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 1:16 I said to myself, "Behold, I have magnified and increased wisdom more than all who were over Jerusalem before me; and my mind has observed a wealth of wisdom and knowledge." Ecl 1:16 I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge. (kjv) Ecl 1:16 Ich sprach in meinem Herzen: Siehe, ich bin herrlich geworden und habe mehr Weisheit denn alle, die vor mir gewesen sind zu Jerusalem, und mein Herz hat viel gelernt und erfahren. Ecl 1:16 ἐλάλησα ἐγὼ ἐν καρδίᾳ μου τῷ λέγειν ἐγὼ ἰδοὺ ἐμεγαλύνθην καὶ προσέθηκα σοφίαν ἐπὶ πᾶσιν οἳ ἐγένοντο ἔμπροσθέν μου ἐν Ιερουσαλημ καὶ καρδία μου εἶδεν πολλά σοφίαν καὶ γνῶσιν ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 1:17 And I set my mind to know wisdom and to know madness and folly; I realized that this also is striving after wind. Ecl 1:17 And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit. (kjv) Ecl 1:17 Und richtete auch mein Herz darauf, daß ich erkennte Weisheit und erkennte Tollheit und Torheit. Ich ward aber gewahr, daß solches auch Mühe um Wind ist. Ecl 1:17 καὶ ἔδωκα καρδίαν μου τοῦ γνῶναι σοφίαν καὶ γνῶσιν παραβολὰς καὶ ἐπιστήμην ἔγνων ὅτι καί γε τοῦτ᾽ ἔστιν προαίρεσις πνεύματος ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 1:18 Because in much wisdom there is much grief, and increasing knowledge results in increasing pain. Ecl 1:18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.(kjv) Ecl 1:18 Denn wo viel Weisheit ist, da ist viel Grämens; und wer viel lernt, der muß viel leiden. Ecl 1:18 ὅτι ἐν πλήθει σοφίας πλῆθος γνώσεως καὶ ὁ προστιθεὶς γνῶσιν προσθήσει ἄλγημα ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 2:1 I said to myself, "Come now, I will test you with pleasure. So enjoy yourself." And behold, it too was futility. Ecl 2:1 I said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove thee with mirth, therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also is vanity. (kjv) Ecl 2:1 Ich sprach in meinem Herzen: Wohlan, ich will wohl leben und gute Tage haben! Aber siehe, das war auch eitel. Ecl 2:1 εἶπον ἐγὼ ἐν καρδίᾳ μου δεῦρο δὴ πειράσω σε ἐν εὐφροσύνῃ καὶ ἰδὲ ἐν ἀγαθῷ καὶ ἰδοὺ καί γε τοῦτο ματαιότης ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 2:2 I said of laughter," It is madness," and of pleasure, "What does it accomplish?" Ecl 2:2 I said of laughter, It is mad: and of mirth, What doeth it? (kjv) Ecl 2:2 Ich sprach zum Lachen: Du bist toll! und zur Freude: Was machst du? Ecl 2:2 τῷ γέλωτι εἶπα περιφορὰν καὶ τῇ εὐφροσύνῃ τί τοῦτο ποιεῖς ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 2:3 I explored with my mind how to stimulate my body with wine while my mind was guiding me wisely, and how to take hold of folly, until I could see what good there is for the sons of men to do under heaven the few years of their lives. Ecl 2:3 I sought in mine heart to give myself unto wine, yet acquainting mine heart with wisdom; and to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was that good for the sons of men, which they should do under the heaven all the days of their life. Ecl 2:3 κατεσκεψάμην ἐν καρδίᾳ μου τοῦ ἑλκύσαι εἰς οἶνον τὴν σάρκα μου καὶ καρδία μου ὡδήγησεν ἐν σοφίᾳ καὶ τοῦ κρατῆσαι ἐπ᾽ ἀφροσύνῃ ἕως οὗ ἴδω ποῖον τὸ ἀγαθὸν τοῖς υἱοῖς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ὃ ποιήσουσιν ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον ἀριθμὸν ἡμερῶν ζωῆς αὐτῶν ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 2:4 I enlarged my works: I built houses for myself, I planted vineyards for myself; Ecl 2:4 I made me great works; I builded me houses; I planted me vineyards: (kjv) Ecl 2:4 Ich tat große Dinge: ich baute Häuser, pflanzte Weinberge; Ecl 2:4 ἐμεγάλυνα ποίημά μου ᾠκοδόμησά μοι οἴκους ἐφύτευσά μοι ἀμπελῶνας ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 2:5 I made gardens and parks for myself and I planted in them all kinds of fruit trees; Ecl 2:5 I made me gardens and orchards, and I planted trees in them of all kind of fruits: (kjv) Ecl 2:5 ich machte mir Gärten und Lustgärten und pflanzte allerlei fruchtbare Bäume darein; Ecl 2:5 ἐποίησά μοι κήπους καὶ παραδείσους καὶ ἐφύτευσα ἐν αὐτοῖς ξύλον πᾶν καρποῦ ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 2:6 I made ponds of water for myself from which to irrigate a forest of growing trees. Ecl 2:6 I made me pools of water, to water therewith the wood that bringeth forth trees: (kjv) Ecl 2:6 ich machte mir Teiche, daraus zu wässern den Wald der grünenden Bäume; Ecl 2:6 ἐποίησά μοι κολυμβήθρας ὑδάτων τοῦ ποτίσαι ἀπ᾽ αὐτῶν δρυμὸν βλαστῶντα ξύλα ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 2:7 I bought male and female slaves and I had homeborn slaves. Also I possessed flocks and herds larger than all who preceded me in Jerusalem. Ecl 2:7 I got me servants and maidens, and had servants born in my house; also I had great possessions of great and small cattle above all that were in Jerusalem before me: (kjv) Ecl 2:7 ich hatte Knechte und Mägde und auch Gesinde, im Hause geboren; ich hatte eine größere Habe an Rindern und Schafen denn alle, die vor mir zu Jerusalem gewesen waren; Ecl 2:7 ἐκτησάμην δούλους καὶ παιδίσκας καὶ οἰκογενεῖς ἐγένοντό μοι καί γε κτῆσις βουκολίου καὶ ποιμνίου πολλὴ ἐγένετό μοι ὑπὲρ πάντας τοὺς γενομένους ἔμπροσθέν μου ἐν Ιερουσαλημ ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 2:8 Also, I collected for myself silver and gold and the treasure of kings and provinces. I provided for myself male and female singers and the pleasures of men--many concubines. Ecl 2:8 I gathered me also silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings and of the provinces: I gat me men singers and women singers, and the delights of the sons of men, as musical instruments, and that of all sorts. (kjv) Ecl 2:8 ich sammelte mir auch Silber und Gold und von den Königen und Ländern einen Schatz; ich schaffte mir Sänger und Sängerinnen und die Wonne der Menschen, allerlei Saitenspiel; Ecl 2:8 συνήγαγόν μοι καί γε ἀργύριον καὶ χρυσίον καὶ περιουσιασμοὺς βασιλέων καὶ τῶν χωρῶν ἐποίησά μοι ᾄδοντας καὶ ᾀδούσας καὶ ἐντρυφήματα υἱῶν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου οἰνοχόον καὶ οἰνοχόας ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 2:9 Then I became great and increased more than all who preceded me in Jerusalem. My wisdom also stood by me. Ecl 2:9 So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem: also my wisdom remained with me. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, for my heart was pleased because of all my labor and this was my reward for all my labor. Ecl 2:10 And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my labour. Ecl 2:10 καὶ πᾶν ὃ ᾔτησαν οἱ ὀφθαλμοί μου οὐχ ὑφεῖλον ἀπ᾽ αὐτῶν οὐκ ἀπεκώλυσα τὴν καρδίαν μου ἀπὸ πάσης εὐφροσύνης ὅτι καρδία μου εὐφράνθη ἐν παντὶ μόχθῳ μου καὶ τοῦτο ἐγένετο μερίς μου ἀπὸ παντὸς μόχθου μου ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 2:11 Thus I considered all my activities which my hands had done and the labor which I had exerted, and behold all was vanity and striving after wind and there was no profit under the sun. Ecl 2:11 Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun. Ecl 2:11 καὶ ἐπέβλεψα ἐγὼ ἐν πᾶσιν ποιήμασίν μου οἷς ἐποίησαν αἱ χεῖρές μου καὶ ἐν μόχθῳ ᾧ ἐμόχθησα τοῦ ποιεῖν καὶ ἰδοὺ τὰ πάντα ματαιότης καὶ προαίρεσις πνεύματος καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν περισσεία ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 2:12 So I turned to consider wisdom, madness and folly; for what will the man do who will come after the king except what has already been done? Ecl 2:12 And I turned myself to behold wisdom, and madness, and folly: for what can the man do that cometh after the king? even that which hath been already done. (kjv) Ecl 2:12 Da wandte ich mich, zu sehen die Weisheit und die Tollheit und Torheit. Denn wer weiß, was der für ein Mensch werden wird nach dem König, den sie schon bereit gemacht haben? Ecl 2:12 καὶ ἐπέβλεψα ἐγὼ τοῦ ἰδεῖν σοφίαν καὶ περιφορὰν καὶ ἀφροσύνην ὅτι τίς ὁ ἄνθρωπος ὃς ἐπελεύσεται ὀπίσω τῆς βουλῆς τὰ ὅσα ἐποίησεν αὐτήν ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 2:13 And I saw that wisdom excels folly as light excels darkness. Ecl 2:13 Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness. And yet I know that one fate befalls them both. Ecl 2:14 The wise man's eyes are in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all. Ecl 2:14 τοῦ σοφοῦ οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτοῦ ἐν κεφαλῇ αὐτοῦ καὶ ὁ ἄφρων ἐν σκότει πορεύεται καὶ ἔγνων καί γε ἐγὼ ὅτι συνάντημα ἓν συναντήσεται τοῖς πᾶσιν αὐτοῖς ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 2:15 Then I said to myself, "As is the fate of the fool, it will also befall me. Why then have I been extremely wise?" So I said to myself, "This too is vanity." Ecl 2:15 Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity. (kjv) Ecl 2:15 Da dachte ich in meinem Herzen: Weil es denn mir geht wie dem Narren, warum habe ich denn nach Weisheit getrachtet? Da dachte ich in meinem Herzen, daß solches auch eitel sei. Ecl 2:15 καὶ εἶπα ἐγὼ ἐν καρδίᾳ μου ὡς συνάντημα τοῦ ἄφρονος καί γε ἐμοὶ συναντήσεταί μοι καὶ ἵνα τί ἐσοφισάμην ἐγὼ τότε περισσὸν ἐλάλησα ἐν καρδίᾳ μου διότι ἄφρων ἐκ περισσεύματος λαλεῖ ὅτι καί γε τοῦτο ματαιότης ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 2:16 For there is no lasting remembrance of the wise man as with the fool, inasmuch as in the coming days all will be forgotten. And how the wise man and the fool alike die! Ecl 2:16 For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the fool. (kjv) Ecl 2:16 Denn man gedenkt des Weisen nicht immerdar, ebenso wenig wie des Narren, und die künftigen Tage vergessen alles; und wie der Narr stirbt, also auch der Weise. The Futility of Labor Ecl 2:17 Therefore I hated life; because the work that is wrought under the sun is grievous unto me: for all is vanity and vexation of spirit. Yet he will have control over all the fruit of my labor for which I have labored by acting wisely under the sun. This too is vanity. This too is vanity and a great evil. Ecl 2:21 For there is a man whose labour is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil. (kjv) Ecl 2:21 Denn es muß ein Mensch, der seine Arbeit mit Weisheit, Vernunft und Geschicklichkeit getan hat, sie einem andern zum Erbteil lassen, der nicht daran gearbeitet hat. Das ist auch eitel und ein großes Unglück. This too is vanity. Ecl 2:23 For all his days are sorrows, and his travail grief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is also vanity. Ecl 2:23 ὅτι πᾶσαι αἱ ἡμέραι αὐτοῦ ἀλγημάτων καὶ θυμοῦ περισπασμὸς αὐτοῦ καί γε ἐν νυκτὶ οὐ κοιμᾶται ἡ καρδία αὐτοῦ καί γε τοῦτο ματαιότης ἐστίν ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 2:24 There is nothing better for a man than to eat and drink and tell himself that his labor is good. This also I have seen that it is from the hand of God. Ecl 2:24 There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This too is vanity and striving after wind. Ecl 2:26 For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. As one dies so dies the other; indeed, they all have the same breath and there is no advantage for man over beast, for all is vanity. Ecl 3:19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity. For who will bring him to see what will occur after him? And behold I saw the tears of the oppressed and that they had no one to comfort them; and on the side of their oppressors was power, but they had no one to comfort them. Ecl 4:1 καὶ ἐπέστρεψα ἐγὼ καὶ εἶδον σὺν πάσας τὰς συκοφαντίας τὰς γινομένας ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον καὶ ἰδοὺ δάκρυον τῶν συκοφαντουμένων καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτοῖς παρακαλῶν καὶ ἀπὸ χειρὸς συκοφαντούντων αὐτοὺς ἰσχύς καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτοῖς παρακαλῶν ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 4:2 So I congratulated the dead who are already dead more than the living who are still living. Ecl 4:2 Wherefore I praised the dead which are already dead more than the living which are yet alive. Ecl 4:3 Yea, better is he than both they, which hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun. Ecl 4:3 καὶ ἀγαθὸς ὑπὲρ τοὺς δύο τούτους ὅστις οὔπω ἐγένετο ὃς οὐκ εἶδεν σὺν τὸ ποίημα τὸ πονηρὸν τὸ πεποιημένον ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 4:4 I have seen that every labor and every skill which is done is the result of rivalry between a man and his neighbor. This too is vanity and striving after wind. Ecl 4:4 Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbour. This is also vanity and vexation of spirit. (kjv) Ecl 4:4 Ich sah an Arbeit und Geschicklichkeit in allen Sachen; da neidet einer den andern. Das ist auch eitel und Haschen nach dem Wind. Ecl 4:5 The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh. (kjv) Ecl 4:5 Ein Narr schlägt die Finger ineinander und verzehrt sich selbst. Ecl 4:5 ὁ ἄφρων περιέλαβεν τὰς χεῖρας αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔφαγεν τὰς σάρκας αὐτοῦ ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 4:6 One hand full of rest is better than two fists full of labor and striving after wind. Ecl 4:6 Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit. Ecl 4:7 καὶ ἐπέστρεψα ἐγὼ καὶ εἶδον ματαιότητα ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 4:8 There was a certain man without a dependent, having neither a son nor a brother, yet there was no end to all his labor. Indeed, his eyes were not satisfied with riches and he never asked, "And for whom am I laboring and depriving myself of pleasure?" This too is vanity and it is a grievous task. Ecl 4:8 There is one alone, and there is not a second; yea, he hath neither child nor brother: yet is there no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither saith he, For whom do I labour, and bereave my soul of good? This is also vanity, yea, it is a sore travail. (kjv) Ecl 4:8 Es ist ein einzelner, und nicht selbander, und hat weder Kind noch Bruder; doch ist seines Arbeitens kein Ende, und seine Augen werden Reichtums nicht satt. Wem arbeite ich doch und breche meiner Seele ab? Das ist auch eitel und eine böse Mühe. Ecl 4:8 ἔστιν εἷς καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν δεύτερος καί γε υἱὸς καὶ ἀδελφὸς οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτῷ καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν περασμὸς τῷ παντὶ μόχθῳ αὐτοῦ καί γε ὀφθαλμὸς αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἐμπίπλαται πλούτου καὶ τίνι ἐγὼ μοχθῶ καὶ στερίσκω τὴν ψυχήν μου ἀπὸ ἀγαθωσύνης καί γε τοῦτο ματαιότης καὶ περισπασμὸς πονηρός ἐστιν ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 4:9 Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. Ecl 4:9 ἀγαθοὶ οἱ δύο ὑπὲρ τὸν ἕνα οἷς ἔστιν αὐτοῖς μισθὸς ἀγαθὸς ἐν μόχθῳ αὐτῶν ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 4:10 For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up. Ecl 4:10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. (kjv) Ecl 4:10 Fällt ihrer einer so hilft ihm sein Gesell auf. Weh dem, der allein ist! Wenn er fällt, so ist keiner da, der ihm aufhelfe. Ecl 4:10 ὅτι ἐὰν πέσωσιν ὁ εἷς ἐγερεῖ τὸν μέτοχον αὐτοῦ καὶ οὐαὶ αὐτῷ τῷ ἑνί ὅταν πέσῃ καὶ μὴ ᾖ δεύτερος τοῦ ἐγεῖραι αὐτόν ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 4:11 Furthermore, if two lie down together they keep warm, but how can one be warm alone? Ecl 4:11 Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? (kjv) Ecl 4:11 Auch wenn zwei beieinander liegen, wärmen sie sich; wie kann ein einzelner warm werden? Ecl 4:11 καί γε ἐὰν κοιμηθῶσιν δύο καὶ θέρμη αὐτοῖς καὶ ὁ εἷς πῶς θερμανθῇ ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 4:12 And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart. Ecl 4:12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. (kjv) Ecl 4:12 Einer mag überwältigt werden, aber zwei mögen widerstehen; und eine dreifältige Schnur reißt nicht leicht entzwei. Ecl 4:12 καὶ ἐὰν ἐπικραταιωθῇ ὁ εἷς οἱ δύο στήσονται κατέναντι αὐτοῦ καὶ τὸ σπαρτίον τὸ ἔντριτον οὐ ταχέως ἀπορραγήσεται ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 4:13 A poor yet wise lad is better than an old and foolish king who no longer knows how to receive instruction. Ecl 4:13 Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished. (kjv) Ecl 4:13 Ein armes Kind, das weise ist, ist besser denn ein alter König, der ein Narr ist und weiß nicht sich zu hüten. Ecl 4:13 ἀγαθὸς παῖς πένης καὶ σοφὸς ὑπὲρ βασιλέα πρεσβύτερον καὶ ἄφρονα ὃς οὐκ ἔγνω τοῦ προσέχειν ἔτι ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 4:14 For he has come out of prison to become king, even though he was born poor in his kingdom. Ecl 4:14 For out of prison he cometh to reign; whereas also he that is born in his kingdom becometh poor. (kjv) Ecl 4:14 Es kommt einer aus dem Gefängnis zum Königreich; und einer, der in seinem Königreich geboren ist, verarmt. Ecl 4:14 ὅτι ἐξ οἴκου τῶν δεσμίων ἐξελεύσεται τοῦ βασιλεῦσαι ὅτι καί γε ἐν βασιλείᾳ αὐτοῦ ἐγεννήθη πένης ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 4:15 I have seen all the living under the sun throng to the side of the second lad who replaces him. Ecl 4:15 I considered all the living which walk under the sun, with the second child that shall stand up in his stead. (kjv) Ecl 4:15 Und ich sah, daß alle Lebendigen unter der Sonne wandelten bei dem andern, dem Kinde, das an jenes Statt sollte aufkommen. Ecl 4:15 εἶδον σὺν πάντας τοὺς ζῶντας τοὺς περιπατοῦντας ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον μετὰ τοῦ νεανίσκου τοῦ δευτέρου ὃς στήσεται ἀντ᾽ αὐτοῦ ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 4:16 There is no end to all the people, to all who were before them, and even the ones who will come later will not be happy with him, for this too is vanity and striving after wind. Ecl 4:16 There is no end of all the people, even of all that have been before them: they also that come after shall not rejoice in him. Surely this also is vanity and vexation of spirit.(kjv) Ecl 4:16 Und des Volks, das vor ihm ging, war kein Ende und des, das ihm nachging; und wurden sein doch nicht froh. Das ist auch eitel und Mühe um Wind. Ecl 4:16 οὐκ ἔστιν περασμὸς τῷ παντὶ λαῷ τοῖς πᾶσιν ὅσοι ἐγένοντο ἔμπροσθεν αὐτῶν καί γε οἱ ἔσχατοι οὐκ εὐφρανθήσονται ἐν αὐτῷ ὅτι καί γε τοῦτο ματαιότης καὶ προαίρεσις πνεύματος ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 5:1 Guard your steps as you go to the house of God and draw near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools; for they do not know they are doing evil. Ecl 5:1 Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil. (kjv) Ecl 5:1 Bewahre deinen Fuß, wenn du zum Hause Gottes gehst, und komme, daß du hörst. Das ist besser als der Narren Opfer; denn sie wissen nicht, was sie Böses tun. Ecl 4:17 φύλαξον πόδα σου ἐν ᾧ ἐὰν πορεύῃ εἰς οἶκον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ἐγγὺς τοῦ ἀκούειν ὑπὲρ δόμα τῶν ἀφρόνων θυσία σου ὅτι οὔκ εἰσιν εἰδότες τοῦ ποιῆσαι κακόν ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 5:2 Do not be hasty in word or impulsive in thought to bring up a matter in the presence of God. For God is in heaven and you are on the earth; therefore let your words be few. Ecl 5:2 Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few. (kjv) Ecl 5:2 Sei nicht schnell mit deinem Munde und laß dein Herz nicht eilen, was zu reden vor Gott; denn Gott ist im Himmel, und du auf Erden; darum laß deiner Worte wenig sein. Ecl 5:1 μὴ σπεῦδε ἐπὶ στόματί σου καὶ καρδία σου μὴ ταχυνάτω τοῦ ἐξενέγκαι λόγον πρὸ προσώπου τοῦ θεοῦ ὅτι ὁ θεὸς ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ καὶ σὺ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἐπὶ τούτῳ ἔστωσαν οἱ λόγοι σου ὀλίγοι ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 5:3 For the dream comes through much effort and the voice of a fool through many words. Ecl 5:3 For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice is known by multitude of words. Ecl 5:2 ὅτι παραγίνεται ἐνύπνιον ἐν πλήθει περισπασμοῦ καὶ φωνὴ ἄφρονος ἐν πλήθει λόγων ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 5:4 When you make a vow to God, do not be late in paying it; for He takes no delight in fools. Pay what you vow! Ecl 5:4 When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. (kjv) Ecl 5:4 Wenn du Gott ein Gelübde tust, so verzieh nicht, es zu halten; denn er hat kein Gefallen an den Narren. Was du gelobst, das halte. Ecl 5:3 καθὼς ἂν εὔξῃ εὐχὴν τῷ θεῷ μὴ χρονίσῃς τοῦ ἀποδοῦναι αὐτήν ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν θέλημα ἐν ἄφροσιν σὺν ὅσα ἐὰν εὔξῃ ἀπόδος ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 5:5 It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay. Ecl 5:5 Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay. (kjv) Ecl 5:5 Es ist besser, du gelobst nichts, denn daß du nicht hältst, was du gelobst. Ecl 5:4 ἀγαθὸν τὸ μὴ εὔξασθαί σε ἢ τὸ εὔξασθαί σε καὶ μὴ ἀποδοῦναι ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 5:6 Do not let your speech cause you to sin and do not say in the presence of the messenger of God that it was a mistake. Why should God be angry on account of your voice and destroy the work of your hands? Ecl 5:6 Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands? (kjv) Ecl 5:6 Laß deinem Mund nicht zu, daß er dein Fleisch verführe; und sprich vor dem Engel nicht: Es ist ein Versehen. Gott möchte erzürnen über deine Stimme und verderben alle Werke deiner Hände. Ecl 5:5 μὴ δῷς τὸ στόμα σου τοῦ ἐξαμαρτῆσαι τὴν σάρκα σου καὶ μὴ εἴπῃς πρὸ προσώπου τοῦ θεοῦ ὅτι ἄγνοιά ἐστιν ἵνα μὴ ὀργισθῇ ὁ θεὸς ἐπὶ φωνῇ σου καὶ διαφθείρῃ τὰ ποιήματα χειρῶν σου ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 5:7 For in many dreams and in many words there is emptiness. Rather, fear God. Ecl 5:7 For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also divers vanities: but fear thou God. (kjv) Ecl 5:7 Wo viel Träume sind, da ist Eitelkeit und viel Worte; aber fürchte du Gott. Ecl 5:6 ὅτι ἐν πλήθει ἐνυπνίων καὶ ματαιότητες καὶ λόγοι πολλοί ὅτι σὺν τὸν θεὸν φοβοῦ ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 5:8 If you see oppression of the poor and denial of justice and righteousness in the province, do not be shocked at the sight; for one official watches over another official, and there are higher officials over them. Ecl 5:8 If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they. (kjv) Ecl 5:8 Siehst du dem Armen Unrecht tun und Recht und Gerechtigkeit im Lande wegreißen, wundere dich des Vornehmens nicht; denn es ist ein hoher Hüter über den Hohen und sind noch Höhere über die beiden. Ecl 5:7 ἐὰν συκοφαντίαν πένητος καὶ ἁρπαγὴν κρίματος καὶ δικαιοσύνης ἴδῃς ἐν χώρᾳ μὴ θαυμάσῃς ἐπὶ τῷ πράγματι ὅτι ὑψηλὸς ἐπάνω ὑψηλοῦ φυλάξαι καὶ ὑψηλοὶ ἐπ᾽ αὐτούς ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 5:9 After all, a king who cultivates the field is an advantage to the land. Ecl 5:9 Moreover the profit of the earth is for all: the king himself is served by the field. (kjv) Ecl 5:9 Und immer ist's Gewinn für ein Land, wenn ein König da ist für das Feld, das man baut. Ecl 5:8 καὶ περισσεία γῆς ἐν παντί ἐστι βασιλεὺς τοῦ ἀγροῦ εἰργασμένου ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 5:10 He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves abundance with its income. This too is vanity. Ecl 5:10 He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity. (kjv) Ecl 5:10 Wer Geld liebt, wird Geldes nimmer satt; und wer Reichtum liebt, wird keinen Nutzen davon haben. Das ist auch eitel. Ecl 5:9 ἀγαπῶν ἀργύριον οὐ πλησθήσεται ἀργυρίου καὶ τίς ἠγάπησεν ἐν πλήθει αὐτῶν γένημα καί γε τοῦτο ματαιότης ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 5:11 When good things increase, those who consume them increase. So what is the advantage to their owners except to look on? Ecl 5:11 When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes? (kjv) Ecl 5:11 Denn wo viel Guts ist, da sind viele, die es essen; und was genießt davon, der es hat, außer daß er's mit Augen ansieht? Ecl 5:10 ἐν πλήθει τῆς ἀγαθωσύνης ἐπληθύνθησαν ἔσθοντες αὐτήν καὶ τί ἀνδρεία τῷ παρ᾽ αὐτῆς ὅτι ἀλλ᾽ ἢ τοῦ ὁρᾶν ὀφθαλμοῖς αὐτοῦ ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 5:12 The sleep of the working man is pleasant, whether he eats little or much; but the full stomach of the rich man does not allow him to sleep. Ecl 5:12 The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep. (kjv) Ecl 5:12 Wer arbeitet, dem ist der Schaf süß, er habe wenig oder viel gegessen; aber die Fülle des Reichen läßt ihn nicht schlafen. Ecl 5:11 γλυκὺς ὕπνος τοῦ δούλου εἰ ὀλίγον καὶ εἰ πολὺ φάγεται καὶ τῷ ἐμπλησθέντι τοῦ πλουτῆσαι οὐκ ἔστιν ἀφίων αὐτὸν τοῦ ὑπνῶσαι ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 5:13 There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun: riches being hoarded by their owner to his hurt. Ecl 5:13 There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt. (kjv) Ecl 5:13 Es ist ein böses Übel, das ich sah unter der Sonne: Reichtum, behalten zum Schaden dem, der ihn hat. Ecl 5:12 ἔστιν ἀρρωστία ἣν εἶδον ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον πλοῦτον φυλασσόμενον τῷ παρ᾽ αὐτοῦ εἰς κακίαν αὐτοῦ ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 5:14 When those riches were lost through a bad investment and he had fathered a son, then there was nothing to support him. Ecl 5:14 But those riches perish by evil travail: and he begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand. (kjv) Ecl 5:14 Denn der Reiche kommt um mit großem Jammer; und so er einen Sohn gezeugt hat, dem bleibt nichts in der Hand. Ecl 5:13 καὶ ἀπολεῖται ὁ πλοῦτος ἐκεῖνος ἐν περισπασμῷ πονηρῷ καὶ ἐγέννησεν υἱόν καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν χειρὶ αὐτοῦ οὐδέν ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 5:15 As he had come naked from his mother's womb, so will he return as he came. He will take nothing from the fruit of his labor that he can carry in his hand. Ecl 5:15 As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand. (kjv) Ecl 5:15 Wie er nackt ist von seine Mutter Leibe gekommen, so fährt er wieder hin, wie er gekommen ist, und nimmt nichts mit sich von seiner Arbeit in seiner Hand, wenn er hinfährt. Ecl 5:14 καθὼς ἐξῆλθεν ἀπὸ γαστρὸς μητρὸς αὐτοῦ γυμνός ἐπιστρέψει τοῦ πορευθῆναι ὡς ἥκει καὶ οὐδὲν οὐ λήμψεται ἐν μόχθῳ αὐτοῦ ἵνα πορευθῇ ἐν χειρὶ αὐτοῦ ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 5:16 This also is a grievous evil--exactly as a man is born, thus will he die. So what is the advantage to him who toils for the wind? Ecl 5:16 And this also is a sore evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go: and what profit hath he that hath laboured for the wind? (kjv) Ecl 5:16 Das ist ein böses Übel, daß er hinfährt, wie er gekommen ist. Was hilft's ihm denn, daß er in den Wind gearbeitet hat? Ecl 5:15 καί γε τοῦτο πονηρὰ ἀρρωστία ὥσπερ γὰρ παρεγένετο οὕτως καὶ ἀπελεύσεται καὶ τίς περισσεία αὐτῷ ᾗ μοχθεῖ εἰς ἄνεμον ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 5:17 Throughout his life he also eats in darkness with great vexation, sickness and anger. Ecl 5:17 All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he hath much sorrow and wrath with his sickness. (kjv) Ecl 5:17 Sein Leben lang hat er im Finstern gegessen und in großem Grämen und Krankheit und Verdruß. Ecl 5:16 καί γε πᾶσαι αἱ ἡμέραι αὐτοῦ ἐν σκότει καὶ πένθει καὶ θυμῷ πολλῷ καὶ ἀρρωστίᾳ καὶ χόλῳ ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 5:18 Here is what I have seen to be good and fitting: to eat, to drink and enjoy oneself in all one's labor in which he toils under the sun during the few years of his life which God has given him; for this is his reward. Ecl 5:18 Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion. (kjv) Ecl 5:18 So sehe ich nun das für gut an, daß es fein sei, wenn man ißt und trinkt und gutes Muts ist in aller Arbeit, die einer tut unter der Sonne sein Leben lang, das Gott ihm gibt; denn das ist sein Teil. This is vanity and a severe affliction. Ecl 6:4 For he cometh in with vanity, and departeth in darkness, and his name shall be covered with darkness. This too is futility and a striving after wind. Ecl 6:9 Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire: this is also vanity and vexation of spirit. Ecl 7:15 All things have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a just man that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man that prolongeth his life in his wickedness. Why should you ruin yourself? Ecl 7:16 Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself ? One who is pleasing to God will escape from her, but the sinner will be captured by her. A man's wisdom illumines him and causes his stern face to beam. Ecl 8:1 Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man's wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed. Ecl 8:8 There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it. (kjv) Ecl 8:8 Ein Mensch hat nicht Macht über den Geist, den Geist zurückzuhalten, und hat nicht Macht über den Tag des Todes, und keiner wird losgelassen im Streit; und das gottlose Wesen errettet den Gottlosen nicht. Ecl 8:8 οὐκ ἔστιν ἄνθρωπος ἐξουσιάζων ἐν πνεύματι τοῦ κωλῦσαι σὺν τὸ πνεῦμα καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐξουσία ἐν ἡμέρᾳ τοῦ θανάτου καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἀποστολὴ ἐν τῷ πολέμῳ καὶ οὐ διασώσει ἀσέβεια τὸν παρ᾽ αὐτῆς ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 8:9 All this I have seen and applied my mind to every deed that has been done under the sun wherein a man has exercised authority over another man to his hurt. (kjv) Ecl 8:9 Das habe ich alles gesehen, und richtete mein Herz auf alle Werke, die unter der Sonne geschehen. Ein Mensch herrscht zuzeiten über den andern zu seinem Unglück. Ecl 8:9 καὶ σὺν πᾶν τοῦτο εἶδον καὶ ἔδωκα τὴν καρδίαν μου εἰς πᾶν ποίημα ὃ πεποίηται ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον τὰ ὅσα ἐξουσιάσατο ὁ ἄνθρωπος ἐν ἀνθρώπῳ τοῦ κακῶσαι αὐτόν ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 8:10 So then, I have seen the wicked buried, those who used to go in and out from the holy place, and they are soon forgotten in the city where they did thus. This too is futility. Ecl 8:10 And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity. (kjv) Ecl 8:10 Und da sah ich Gottlose, die begraben wurden und zur Ruhe kamen; aber es wandelten hinweg von heiliger Stätte und wurden vergessen in der Stadt die, so recht getan hatten. Das ist auch eitel. Ecl 8:10 καὶ τότε εἶδον ἀσεβεῖς εἰς τάφους εἰσαχθέντας καὶ ἐκ τόπου ἁγίου ἐπορεύθησαν καὶ ἐπῃνέθησαν ἐν τῇ πόλει ὅτι οὕτως ἐποίησαν καί γε τοῦτο ματαιότης ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 8:11 Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed quickly, therefore the hearts of the sons of men among them are given fully to do evil. Ecl 8:11 Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. (kjv) Ecl 8:11 Weil nicht alsbald geschieht ein Urteil über die bösen Werke, dadurch wird das Herz der Menschen voll, Böses zu tun. Ecl 8:11 ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν γινομένη ἀντίρρησις ἀπὸ τῶν ποιούντων τὸ πονηρὸν ταχύ διὰ τοῦτο ἐπληροφορήθη καρδία υἱῶν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐν αὐτοῖς τοῦ ποιῆσαι τὸ πονηρόν ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 8:12 Although a sinner does evil a hundred times and may lengthen his life, still I know that it will be well for those who fear God, who fear Him openly. Ecl 8:12 ὃς ἥμαρτεν ἐποίησεν τὸ πονηρὸν ἀπὸ τότε καὶ ἀπὸ μακρότητος αὐτῷ ὅτι καί γε γινώσκω ἐγὼ ὅτι ἔσται ἀγαθὸν τοῖς φοβουμένοις τὸν θεόν ὅπως φοβῶνται ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 8:13 But it will not be well for the evil man and he will not lengthen his days like a shadow, because he does not fear God. Ecl 8:13 But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God. (kjv) Ecl 8:13 Aber dem Gottlosen wird es nicht wohl gehen; und wie ein Schatten werden nicht lange leben, die sich vor Gott nicht fürchten. Ecl 8:13 καὶ ἀγαθὸν οὐκ ἔσται τῷ ἀσεβεῖ καὶ οὐ μακρυνεῖ ἡμέρας ἐν σκιᾷ ὃς οὐκ ἔστιν φοβούμενος ἀπὸ προσώπου τοῦ θεοῦ ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 8:14 There is futility which is done on the earth, that is, there are righteous men to whom it happens according to the deeds of the wicked. On the other hand, there are evil men to whom it happens according to the deeds of the righteous. I say that this too is futility. Ecl 8:14 There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just men, unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity. (kjv) Ecl 8:14 Es ist eine Eitelkeit, die auf Erden geschieht: es sind Gerechte, denen geht es als hätten sie Werke der Gottlosen, und sind Gottlose, denen geht es als hätten sie Werke der Gerechten. Ich sprach: Das ist auch eitel. Ecl 8:14 ἔστιν ματαιότης ἣ πεποίηται ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ὅτι εἰσὶ δίκαιοι ὅτι φθάνει πρὸς αὐτοὺς ὡς ποίημα τῶν ἀσεβῶν καὶ εἰσὶν ἀσεβεῖς ὅτι φθάνει πρὸς αὐτοὺς ὡς ποίημα τῶν δικαίων εἶπα ὅτι καί γε τοῦτο ματαιότης ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 8:15 So I commended pleasure, for there is nothing good for a man under the sun except to eat and to drink and to be merry, and this will stand by him in his toils throughout the days of his life which God has given him under the sun. Ecl 8:15 Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun. Ecl 8:15 καὶ ἐπῄνεσα ἐγὼ σὺν τὴν εὐφροσύνην ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ἀγαθὸν τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον ὅτι εἰ μὴ τοῦ φαγεῖν καὶ τοῦ πιεῖν καὶ τοῦ εὐφρανθῆναι καὶ αὐτὸ συμπροσέσται αὐτῷ ἐν μόχθῳ αὐτοῦ ἡμέρας ζωῆς αὐτοῦ ὅσας ἔδωκεν αὐτῷ ὁ θεὸς ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 8:16 When I gave my heart to know wisdom and to see the task which has been done on the earth (even though one should never sleep day or night), Ecl 8:16 When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night seeth sleep with his eyes:) (kjv) Ecl 8:16 Ich gab mein Herz, zu wissen die Weisheit und zu schauen die Mühe, die auf Erden geschieht, daß auch einer weder Tag noch Nacht den Schlaf sieht mit seinen Augen. Even though man should seek laboriously, he will not discover; and though the wise man should say, "I know," he cannot discover. Ecl 8:17 Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea farther; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.(kjv) Ecl 8:17 Und ich sah alle Werke Gottes, daß ein Mensch das Werk nicht finden kann, das unter der Sonne geschieht; und je mehr der Mensch arbeitet, zu suchen, je weniger er findet. Wenn er gleich spricht: "Ich bin weise und weiß es", so kann er's doch nicht finden. Ecl 8:17 καὶ εἶδον σὺν πάντα τὰ ποιήματα τοῦ θεοῦ ὅτι οὐ δυνήσεται ἄνθρωπος τοῦ εὑρεῖν σὺν τὸ ποίημα τὸ πεποιημένον ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον ὅσα ἂν μοχθήσῃ ὁ ἄνθρωπος τοῦ ζητῆσαι καὶ οὐχ εὑρήσει καί γε ὅσα ἂν εἴπῃ ὁ σοφὸς τοῦ γνῶναι οὐ δυνήσεται τοῦ εὑρεῖν ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 9:1 For I have taken all this to my heart and explain it that righteous men, wise men, and their deeds are in the hand of God. Man does not know whether it will be love or hatred; anything awaits him. There is one fate for the righteous and for the wicked; for the good, for the clean and for the unclean; for the man who offers a sacrifice and for the one who does not sacrifice. As the good man is, so is the sinner; as the swearer is, so is the one who is afraid to swear. Ecl 9:2 All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath. (kjv) Ecl 9:2 Es begegnet dasselbe einem wie dem andern: dem Gerechten wie dem Gottlosen, dem Guten und Reinen wie dem Unreinen, dem, der opfert, wie dem, der nicht opfert; wie es dem Guten geht, so geht's auch dem Sünder; wie es dem, der schwört, geht, so geht's auch dem, der den Eid fürchtet. Ecl 9:2 ματαιότης ἐν τοῖς πᾶσιν συνάντημα ἓν τῷ δικαίῳ καὶ τῷ ἀσεβεῖ τῷ ἀγαθῷ καὶ τῷ κακῷ καὶ τῷ καθαρῷ καὶ τῷ ἀκαθάρτῳ καὶ τῷ θυσιάζοντι καὶ τῷ μὴ θυσιάζοντι ὡς ὁ ἀγαθός ὧς ὁ ἁμαρτάνων ὧς ὁ ὀμνύων καθὼς ὁ τὸν ὅρκον φοβούμενος ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 9:3 This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one fate for all men. Furthermore, the hearts of the sons of men are full of evil and insanity is in their hearts throughout their lives. Afterwards they go to the dead. Ecl 9:3 This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead. (kjv) Ecl 9:3 Das ist ein böses Ding unter allem, was unter der Sonne geschieht, daß es einem geht wie dem andern; daher auch das Herz der Menschen voll Arges wird, und Torheit ist in ihrem Herzen, dieweil sie leben; darnach müssen sie sterben. Ecl 9:3 τοῦτο πονηρὸν ἐν παντὶ πεποιημένῳ ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον ὅτι συνάντημα ἓν τοῖς πᾶσιν καί γε καρδία υἱῶν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐπληρώθη πονηροῦ καὶ περιφέρεια ἐν καρδίᾳ αὐτῶν ἐν ζωῇ αὐτῶν καὶ ὀπίσω αὐτῶν πρὸς τοὺς νεκρούς ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 9:4 For whoever is joined with all the living, there is hope; surely a live dog is better than a dead lion. Ecl 9:4 For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion. Ecl 9:4 ὅτι τίς ὃς κοινωνεῖ πρὸς πάντας τοὺς ζῶντας ἔστιν ἐλπίς ὅτι ὁ κύων ὁ ζῶν αὐτὸς ἀγαθὸς ὑπὲρ τὸν λέοντα τὸν νεκρόν ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 9:5 For the living know they will die; but the dead do not know anything, nor have they any longer a reward, for their memory is forgotten. Ecl 9:5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Ecl 11:2 δὸς μερίδα τοῖς ἑπτὰ καί γε τοῖς ὀκτώ ὅτι οὐ γινώσκεις τί ἔσται πονηρὸν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 11:3 If the clouds are full, they pour out rain upon the earth; and whether a tree falls toward the south or toward the north, wherever the tree falls, there it lies. Ecl 11:3 If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be. (kjv) Ecl 11:3 Wenn die Wolken voll sind, so geben sie Regen auf die Erde; und wenn der Baum fällt, er falle gegen Mittag oder Mitternacht, auf welchen Ort er fällt, da wird er liegen. Ecl 11:4 He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap. Ecl 11:4 τηρῶν ἄνεμον οὐ σπερεῖ καὶ βλέπων ἐν ταῖς νεφέλαις οὐ θερίσει ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 11:5 Just as you do not know the path of the wind and how bones are formed in the womb of the pregnant woman, so you do not know the activity of God who makes all things. Ecl 11:5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all. Ecl 11:6 In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good. Everything that is to come will be futility. Ecl 11:8 But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity. (kjv) Ecl 11:8 Wenn ein Mensch viele Jahre lebt, so sei er fröhlich in ihnen allen und gedenke der finstern Tage, daß ihrer viel sein werden; denn alles, was kommt, ist eitel. Ecl 11:8 ὅτι καὶ ἐὰν ἔτη πολλὰ ζήσεται ὁ ἄνθρωπος ἐν πᾶσιν αὐτοῖς εὐφρανθήσεται καὶ μνησθήσεται τὰς ἡμέρας τοῦ σκότους ὅτι πολλαὶ ἔσονται πᾶν τὸ ἐρχόμενον ματαιότης ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 11:9 Rejoice, young man, during your childhood, and let your heart be pleasant during the days of young manhood. And follow the impulses of your heart and the desires of your eyes. Yet know that God will bring you to judgment for all these things. Ecl 11:9 Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment. (kjv) Ecl 11:9 So freue dich, Jüngling, in deiner Jugend und laß dein Herz guter Dinge sein in deiner Jugend. Tue, was dein Herz gelüstet und deinen Augen gefällt, und wisse, daß dich Gott um dies alles wird vor Gericht führen. For man goes to his eternal home while mourners go about in the street. Ecl 12:5 Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets: (kjv) Ecl 12:5 wenn man auch vor Höhen sich fürchtet und sich scheut auf dem Wege; wenn der Mandelbaum blüht, und die Heuschrecke beladen wird, und alle Lust vergeht (denn der Mensch fährt hin, da er ewig bleibt, und die Klageleute gehen umher auf der Gasse); Ecl 12:5 καί γε ἀπὸ ὕψους ὄψονται καὶ θάμβοι ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ καὶ ἀνθήσῃ τὸ ἀμύγδαλον καὶ παχυνθῇ ἡ ἀκρίς καὶ διασκεδασθῇ ἡ κάππαρις ὅτι ἐπορεύθη ὁ ἄνθρωπος εἰς οἶκον αἰῶνος αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκύκλωσαν ἐν ἀγορᾷ οἱ κοπτόμενοι ------------------------------------------------------ Ecl 12:6 Remember Him before the silver cord is broken and the golden bowl is crushed, the pitcher by the well is shattered and the wheel at the cistern is crushed; Ecl 12:6 Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
