The Christmas story is very important. We talk about the HOPE and Promise of the Christ Child... we don't usually explain why Christ needed to come into the world. We've lost the meaning of the Messiah, of course most of us not being Jewish has some influence on that, we don't know the Torah or much else about things like that. But I think most of us Gentiles realize something isn't right in the world. We've got a problem but we're not quite sure what it is... we could summarize all of our worries and such and just say we need a Savior. Some look to men, others ideas, but the Bible defines it clearly, providing a logical framework for the solution that withstands attacks from every angle, and has for centuries. The Bible is very clear about our need for a Savior, and that Jesus Christ is that Savior, let me share a few verses, you've likely heard them before, but first we need to understand that we all have a problem: sin. The Old Testament identifies it and established the Torah and sacrifices looking forward to the Messiah and the ultimate solution of sin through the Son of God, the Son of David, the promise of the seed to the woman (Genesis 3:14,15), Luke 24:44-47 says the entire Old Testament deals with this issue. Sin breaks fellowship with our Creator and results in death (separation from God and life), death is the penalty of sin. We're all guilty, from birth, (that's why Jesus talked about being born again, this time without sin...) and we have sinned willingly after birth, so we're guilty by default and by our own will... I doubt any of us would argue we're not sinners, so that leaves us with how to deal with our sins... And that's where Jesus comes in... John 14:6 Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. Of course we're all sinners: Romans 3:20 because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin. 21 But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; 25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. I John 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us. I John 3:23 This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us. I John 4:9 By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us. 13 By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. 14 We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. I John 5:11 And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. Acts 4:12 And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.” This is why I summarize all of this with two words: Trust Jesus. Luke 24:44-47 says it's all about Him. Luke 24:44-47 Luke 24:44 Now He said to them, “These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and He said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
