ROFL, this is how the previous owner had FIXED my rear tailgate window on my '67.

Not only that, but he made it even more challenging by having thrown away ALL the
hardware... it didn't work he said... and neither did the brakes, exhaust, clutch,
shall I go on...

This was my first FSJ. a pink (yeah, I know Ken, Salmon, no wait, rose, no, no, no,
it's Indian Cermak, or pottery... or was it red pink clay...) Wagoneer that I was
able to get by giving the guy a then functioning Ford Pinto wagon that I had traded
three cords of wood for... the Pinto was inoperative within about two weeks... the
guy was a carpenter, not a mechanic...

(BTW, it was Indian Ceramic, and is/was the same color as Ken's spring over beauty...)

later,
john

Jack,
I just put a Jacob's Omni pack on my '81 Cherokee. This is with a
258 I-6, not a 360. For me, the biggest difference has been in idle
smoothness. Unfortunately, I added the Omni pack, and before I checked the
mileage, I also replaced the thermostat which was preventing the engine from
warming up. Therefore, I don't know if the improvement in mileage I got was
totally a result of the new electronics. For reference, the highway mileage
went from 17.5 mpg to over 21 mpg with these two fixes alone. If you call
them, they will quote you a guaranteed mpg and HP improvement for your
particular engine and vehicle. For mine, they said it would gain at least
16.7% in mpg. It seems to me that this setup gives the most benefit if the
engine you are putting it on doesn't have a "high energy" ignition on it
already. The higher spark voltages allow your engine to burn leaner
air/fuel mixtures without an occasional miss (since lean mixtures tend to be
hard to light). In my case, due to the feedback carb, that occasional miss
would result in the overall mixture being on the rich side since the O2
sensor would sense the oxygen in the unburnt air/fuel mixture and the
computer would think that the mixture is too lean! Now, the Jacobs setup
will ignite the lean mixtures and the idle is now rock solid smooth. The
other thing that you have to remember is that putting in these electronics
allows you to fiddle with the spark plug gaps (I went from .035 to .060,
engine ignition timing (from 6 BTDC to 10 BTDC), and the air/fuel mixture
(taken care of by the feedback carb, maybe change jetting on yours?). All of
these things will have some effect on your mpg.

Overall, I would have to say it has been a worthwhile addition to the big
Cherokee and worth the money. Oh...I think if you call them and tell them
you can get it cheaper through Summit or something, they'll drop the price.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
