I've been looking mostly at 89-91 GW's and they run about $8K to $10K. I wouldn't touch an 89 that's been poorly repainted, though. Gotta be rust under there. Didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings with my very first post, but, we've all got to live together. Anyway, I drive an '84GW, fully loaded. This is our second fsj - first was a '75 wagon. Married, 3 children, 1 in college. AKC Rottweiler owner; love to fish, camp, ski, play in the snow; my wife, oldest daughter and I all shoot together at a local pistol range. I'm a ham: kd6rue - too lazy and too dumb to learn code! Ex big rig driver - drove for Viking, linehaul - triples, etc. Just your ordinary run of the mill type of guy who loves drivng a fsj. Here in Sac, these babies are quite popular. See them all the time around town and up in the hills above Placerville. To the gent who found that thingamajig under his dash, it's your cruise control black box. The holes allow you to adjust it, etc. I'm running an old workhorse system here at home: 486dx2/66, 24mb ram, .5g hd, 33.6 Supra fax/modem, Win95 and Netscape. This allows me to jackin and stay current(not necessarily wiser, but current). Plans for the future: lift the GW, put in a new comp controlled, fi, engine, new tires, and a bigger stereo; also will mount my Cobra Classic 29 cb and 2 meter rig, new antennae, and find a better location for the cellphone! The d44 upfront is cool, but I could use some sort of part-time locker. The rear will get a d60 with the same. xtransfer case needs nothing - 229. Both diffs will get a gear change because of the increase of tire size - 31.10.50(hopefully), the 727 tq auto is fine, I love, especially because it has never failed me! I presume most of you guys are joking about the wives - mine is a lover of all things Jeep and isn't against the mods I plan to make. As long as I don't touch her Beamer, she's cool!! I'd love to give it a lift, etc. Anyway, thanks to all who answered my original post. I'll be listening and learning. 73 kd6rue. 147.195+ Aaron. Sacramento. aholley-at-jps.net[Back to Top]

Looks a little expenive plus getting a computer for the garage to use the thing. I did order up a set of factory manuals for my 86. 4 piece set. I got three of the 4. I pick up the body manual later on. Price, I guess (?) wasnt bad. Complete set was about $60. ($40 without the body book.). In the mean time, before my books come I have have a couple of questions about the carbs. 2bbl,make ??. I had the wag in the show to see why the thing was running rough. BP (dont laugh I had plastic to spend there) says the carb was running lean and needed rebuilt. They and wanted $460 to do the rebuild an swap carbs. Seems a bit steep since I can get a new(rebuilt) carb for under $160. I passed on the the 1/2 grand to fix a rough idle and instead blasted it with some carb cleaner. That helped a lot but still a little rough. There didnt seem to be that much work to swap them, but my carb experience is next to nill. Am I getting in over my head if I give it a try?(?)? I did notice that the electronic choke (i think thats what it is) has a very short throw, maybe 1/2 inch. I also notice that the adjustment screw/spring on the carb side of the choke is tightend all the way in. Should it be that far in or is the choke sprong and not fully extending? Should the choke/throdle screw always touch the choke throw rod? Enough ramblings and vague descriptions.. The square center grill and the openings next to the headlights for optional spotlights or driving lights. I took the grill off my 84 GW once to fix the headlight adjusters and found that they hadn't changed a thing on the front end from the original design. Maybe if I can find an old grill I'd like to change it out...[Back to Top]

I've got a copy of Eastwood's catalog. Great stuff. The tin-zinc electroplating setup seems cool, but for $70 it's a little steep. It's alot less expensive than going w/ stainless steel bolts though. I wonder if anyone out there has experience with this setup. How long do you think the plating lasts? I'd hate to go through all the work of cleaning/plating/polishing bolts and other parts only to have the plating come off after a year or so. Date: Wed, 11 Dec 1996 20:59:11 -0800 From: john <john-at-> Subject: rust question, the polymer, and some new stuff... What's the best way of dealing with some small rust bubbles on the quarter panel by the gas tank?? without nuking the existing paint... Not sure how Old Blue started this... possibly when he had some water in the hold... :) ------------ For other metal pieces, like out of sight, etc... Duro Extend is the stuff that converts rust to a polymer. I've used it before, good stuff, but expensive and with limited coverage... You might try buying it in large quanities at an automotive body shop supply company... --------------- AMSOIL is coming out with a new undercoating material. I learned of it in a business meeting here in Seattle last week. It sprays on clear, can be cleaned off easily with solvent and remains liquid so if it gets scratched or chipped it will flow into that area... I'll get some and try it on my Jeeps... I think the suggested retail price on this AMSOIL undercoating was about $18 a quart... The sheet they gave me says: resists and repels water, prevents rust, preserves condition of metal, rubber and plastic surfaces... Lubricates moving parts, stops squeaks and quiets vehicle noise, prevents wear, stays fluid, penetrates cracks, can be removed if needed, does not crack or chip, Dries to an amber color, does not leave an ugly black coating like asphalt based products, does not harm paint, over spray does not need to be cleaned. Under Coat can be used on exterior surfaces... If you're interested in this, like I am, let me know off the list... I think I'm going to order some and give it a whirl... They had a sample there, piece of metal, one half covered, the other not. The main office is in Superior, WI, so they know about rust... the treated half looked like new metal, the other half like something that had seen an east coast winter... This stuff really looks great. AMSOIL puts out good quality products. The thing that got me involved back in '83 was the Lifetime Air Filters, they are without a doubt the best available... K&N's just don't compare... I've had both. Cleaning a K&N is not something I'd ever want to do again... enough commercial. I figured our concern of trying to keep our FSJ's from dissolving before our eyes due to rust warranted this plug... later, john john-at-[Back to Top]

The problem with mine is a real mystery. It is intermittent. Sometimes, especially after bouncing around, it loses "mid" throttle. ie. idle= fine, full throttle = fine, but somewhere in between it acts like it is not getting fuel.
