I wouldn't want to try to fit either into a GW... the 4 cyl our FSJ friend in Nebraska has may be a little too tall... we'll have to see when he has time to get all the particulars... btw, I wouldn't fire that thing up without it being in a solid frame or bolted to concrete... I've seen volvo 4 bangers get up and flip over just with the starter... a Diesel has incredible torque... you'd hurt something or someone... He was on his way to lunch, and I was late for work, so I just got some of the basic info from him, and his phone number. I would like to know if you guys think it sounds like an okay deal, and I have a few other questions about it. First, the info: - 82 wagonerr brahm (not too sure how to spell the brahm part..) - 360V8, quadratrac - model 20 rear end - body look straight -- no dents that I saw in a quick look over (or rust for that matter, but this is oregon and rust isn't usually a problem. - dual tanks of some sort. It only has one filler, but he said it has two 20 gallon tanks with a swith on the dash. This obviously isn't factory. - 4 inch suspention lift. Blocks in the back. He told me the manufacurer, but I can't remember. - Said about 18 mpg on the hwy. I figure this is completely meaningless info. - Interior looked good, but I was just looking through the windows. - Electric windows and door locks. - Paint chiped in some places. I kinda like it that way anyway. Makes it look expierienced. - Recently passed DEQ inspection. - Asking $3495. Which quadratrack is this? Is it the early borg wanner unit with the limited slip, or is it the latter model? I'm thinkin it is the later model because the rear pumkin is in the middle of the rear end, and not offset to the passenger side. Does this sound like a good price (not knowing any more info)? I am currently looking at going up 2" with a new front & back spring set. This seemed to be the most stable/safe solution, but might prove to be prohibitively expensive when compared to add-a-leafs with blocks. Most of my 4 Wheeling is done in the snow so it may be overkill to spend the extra $. If I want another inch later I can do it with larger tires. Dennis & John -- I agree it is shameful that I do not have any pictures of my truck, but since I bought it in August I have spent all my cash fixing it and there isn't any leftover to have my film developed =;^^)> I have a scanner and will send you some photos as soon as I finish my current roll of film and digitize them. By the way, I have some Web design experience (go ahead Steve, jump) and if I can be of any assistance, let me know. QUESTIONS..... Does anyone know a mechanic in the San Francisco Bay Area that is FSJ savvy? Or are there any members in the area that could give me some pointers on finding parts around here? (Ken. W. or the fire hydrant guy?) Can anyone recommend a windguard that will work for the sunroof on an 88 GW? PARTS.... I need a shift indicator (the little red pin on the steering column that indicates R P D 1 2 when you move the gearshift). To get a new one I would have to order the entire housing and mounting apparatus. If anyone has a GW that they are using for parts that might have one of these, I would appreciate it. I also need to replace the servo component for my cruise control. Someone tried to steal my precious GW last week by busting the casing on the steering column with a screwdriver and breaking the lock on the ignition switch (apparently this is easy to do on a GM steering column). In the process, they somehow set off the horn and in an absurd attempt to shut it off, they popped the hood and began to randomely clip wires and pull vaccum hoses. When this didn't work, they mistook the servo unit for the horn and beat the #$%&!!! out of it. This failed (for obvious reasons) and they had to disconnect the battery to turn it off (Apparently my GW did NOT want to be stolen). Now the truck won't start and that it is how I found it. This speaks volumes about the intelligence level of people who would rather steal someone else's car than earn one. Confusing the cruise control with the horn (while the horn is blaring) ? If anyone has one in working order I would be happy to purchase it. New ones, I'm told, are running aprx. $110.00. One more thing, the would-be thief broke in through the "smoker" window on the passenger side and bent the lever that rotates to keep the window snugly closed. It does not seem to want to bend back. Does anyone have an extra bottom mounting for the passenger side triangular window? Thanks, Steve Rosewarne '88 Grand Wagoneer[Back to Top]

Also, can you give me the address for the GS Club? Thanks! Henry >>>>>>>> Near Reading, Pa. I'm about 1.75 hr NW of Philthydelphia. Yeah, I'd love to see it too! I have decided to keep that 258 if John decides against it. The shipping is murder... Anyway depending on how it goes I might not get the 455 built this summer. I didn't expect to find all the body and electrical I just did all at once- it takes the project to a new level. I WAS gonna just make the body presentable and spray the interior and exterior, but now I've got alot of near virgin stuff, so I've decided to strip the interior and start from leak checking and windsheild out to putting on my refurbished with new heater core metal heater box and replacing all the electrics, etc. The point being it looks like I'm going to use the 258 to power Mr. Beef until the 455 gets completed. Why? Because the 258 has low miles and quite frankly I must agree with somebody's estimation on the list that the 360 is a grease slapper. (I laughed for a half hour at that...) I have much more confidence in the 6. I would like to ride in say Jim the Mechanics (BTW where's he been?) Cherokee to give the 360 design a fair chance. However if you look at the numbers the 360 got what a best of 265 ft lbs of torque or something? The 455 which is only 95 more cubes but 245 more ft lbs in rating in Stage1 trim! The 455 also weighs less than the Chevy small block. This of course is not to say that they (360s) don't last or whatever you may be reading into this. And, it IS neat to see a vehicle like Jim's that has the correct motor design in it, I had just envisioned that big wide red U-joint snappin' Buick in there. Besides I'm doin' Mr. Beef a favor-esp. now that with all of the cool parts I have ready I essentially bought a frame, dana rears and a cab (that needed doors). All the other body parts except for the drivers inner fender well and rad support will be an import to Mr. Beef. Not to mention that I have a buddy who just MUST have my 360 because it is a new short block. Well, OK then. BUY my 360 so I can put a torque cam in the 258 with a hotter coil and new pan and timing cover gaskets. See what I care! This way I can drive the J for most of the time I'm re-doing stuff. (I can see this-gotta bolt one bucket seat in it and roll up the windows with vice grips to go to the As for the 455 I'm going to put my money where my mouth is and just freshen the bearings and seals and rings/improve the oil pump/port match the heads and go for it. Of course I'm going to check the cyl. for trueness and the deck surface of the block, but they should be OK or at least useable. I'm not wringing out every last bit of performance out of this 455 so it's not like I wanna wind it-won't have to-specially with the 4:09 gears in his royal Beefness. I did make sure to get a 455 that ran smoothly to begin with-so there should be no problems. I am glad that a few of you are intersted in this-there are several cool trucks between us-I would like to have one of them. I do not intend to "down" anybody's choice of motor, and if you think Buicks suck, then it is certainly your right to be wrong. Uh what I meant to say is er uh... I DO think it's cool that someone has a bowtie 350 with FI in thier Jeep, I also like the idea of Jim's hopped up 360. It all depends on your application, and for my needs the 455 fits the bill. We're taking Jen's car in to the dealer to have the transmission checked out. If it's terminal then we're going to get another car rather than fix hers. So we may be in the mkt for another vehicle beginning nxt wk. If that's the case, I would probably want to take a look at your Wag. A late model Wag would be nice and roomy for Jen and the kids. And i think the blue w/ woodgrain is the best color for the GWags. If it's still available nxt weekend, I might be over for a look!
