James, does this mean the course is so wet from all the flooding that the golf carts are useless, or is this some sort of new sport that I'd like to learn??? :-) john --------------------------------------------------------------- john-at- http://www./~john Snohomish, WA - where JEEPS don't rust, they mold... http://www./~john/statement.html --------------------------------------------------------------------- Full Size Jeep Page Editor - http://www.off-road.com/4x4web/jeep/fsj ---------------------------------------------------------------------[Back to Top]

Maybe your other 4.0L would > get better mileage if they were newer and didn't have over 100K on > them... I think you're probably right. These 4.0 L's are nice motors, but then again, so are the 4.2L's. I think the 4.2L's are quieter and smoother... but that's just from the passenger seat... It's probably because they're in SJ's instead of Xj's... I've towed my trailer around and felt the difference. It's still got more git up and go than Old Blue, but I can tell the load will drop the mileage... which is what I'm after. I think going the 4bbl route and lower gears makes more sense. I don't drive Old Blue enough to justify a major operation. It's apparent that the swap won't buy me enough economy to allow Old Blue to become my daily driver... First things first. Gotta fix the TC. Then maybe the axles. Then later the carb... Maybe I ought to get a decent 2 bbl carb, that might help my mileage and save me the hassle of swapping manifolds... It's not that I'm getting lazy, it's just that time move faster than I do now... I've done enough swaps to know they require an inordinate amount of effort and they never come out as well as I'd like them too... Maybe I'm too fussy... Hey, it sounds like I'm not the only one though... right Joe and Mike? :-) On the spare engine and tranny, after I get the gray jeep running and sold, whatever is left over will probably be sold. If I swap the engine and tranny out of the gray jeep, I'll keep the rebuilt tranny as a spare and sell the motor as a core, or just play around with the other one... The little wagoneer only has 165,000 miles on it right now, still getting 17 to 18 mpg and isn't using oil or leaking it... I think I've put one quart in in the last 10,000 miles or so... I'm running the Series 2000 0 w 30 Amsoil Synthetic... ttyl, john --------------------------------------------------------------- john-at- http://www./~john Snohomish, WA - where JEEPS don't rust, they mold... http://www./~john/statement.html --------------------------------------------------------------------- Full Size Jeep Page Editor - http://www.off-road.com/4x4web/jeep/fsj ---------------------------------------------------------------------[Back to Top]

Any other t-case requires changing the gas tank on your '79 and possibly the rear-end as well. The U-joints may be okay with the extra angle created my a centered rear output (someone on the list is getting away with it) and they may not. It's one of those "is this your lucky day" things. Depending on what t-case you use for the swap, you will have to jump through some hoops. I believe If you get a New Process case that was originally installed behind a GM TH-400, you'll have an easier time with adapters and shaft swapping. If you have visions of a Dana 300, for example, better call Advanced Adapters and have them explain what you need to do and how much it's going to cost. -- Michael Baxter, 74172.1164-at-Compuserve.com http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/MBaxter From Reno, NV USA on 19-May-1997 at 23:17:33 PDT !^NavFont01F000EMGdHGmMGAEHJ7D2F47 If you want to replace the whole case consider that the only other t-case made[Back to Top]
