usenet to digest.net - 10 years later... In Spring 1995 the FSJ list was unofficially formed. It's been over 10 years... it all started on USENET, in rec.autos.4x4. Some time in April 1995 I ran into Michael Lacher on usenet, then Ken Wetherall and then Michael Baxter and the rest of the original list. It didn't take long for us to move our Full Size Jeep discussions off of the annoying and flame laden usenet into email with multiple CC's. I was using Eudora and able to create a mail alias that sent copies to everyone. Folks would send me email and I'd forward it to the "list". It had it's moments... actually several moments at 2,400 baud dial up. :) So the original "list" went from usenet to eudora, then to a list server in Atlanta, that disappeared one weekend, back to eudora, then to a list server in San Diego, then to a commercial website that led to it's splintering into two different lists because of some ugliness. I started a new FSJ list on digest.net in 1997, and it's been there ever since... While at that commercial website I started the original XJ list. When I left I also formed a new XJ list and the DieselBenz list. Much thanx to Richard Welty of digest.net. He's provided us a solid and reliable list server for years. We also need to thank the volunteer list moms: Brian Colucci for babysitting the FJS and XJ lists and Derick Amburgey for the DieselBenz list! and the previous list moms, not sure if they're still on the lists or not... Sam from tehabi for one! copies are on my servers. Currently around 200 per list... (digest.net) I'm not sure what the other FSJ and XJ lists have been up to. When you hear someone bellyache about how the internet is nothing but porn, spam and uselessness, point out all the good that has come from these lists. THIS IS THE INTERNET!!! It's safe, free, friendly and informative. We had our 40th Anniversary gathering of FSJ's in Ouray, Colorado... that was started right here on this FSJ list. I was happy to have made it... http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/Ouray2002/ What would be great is if we heard some of the stories of good things on the list recapped. Happy Anniversary fellow listers! remember, this IS the internet... damn the spammers, full speed ahead... john meister snohomish, washington ... where jeeps don't rust, they mold. :) ---- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** -------------------------------------------------------------------------
