I donated it to the Kidney Foundation last month. I tried to sell it for 1K for almost a year without even a nibble. Too bad too. I would have loved to see someone finish it. It had a lot of really good stuff on it. I hope the guy that got it realized the work I put into it. I guess that's too much to ask for, though. I did not have trouble mounting stockish tires on the WT axles with the 4 door body. The trouble I had was putting the '78 t-case in the '83 frame. The hump in the '83 is shorter. I had to make a new/better, lower, tranny mount to make it fit. I don't see what the big deal is... I did the whole conversion ('78 WT Cherokee tranny, t-case, and axles into a '83 Waggy), and striped a '78 WT, then drove 3000 miles, in less then 10 days. :) Anyway, I still have a bunch of FSJ stuff I need to get rid of... All this came from a '78 WT Cherokee: - - Doors, with glass - - Tailgate, with glass - - Front clip (fenders, fenderwells, grill, inner grill, hood, everything from the front door pillar forward) - - Vacuum booster, with MC - - Brake pedal and plate - - Instrument cluster - - other assorted stuff This stuff is lying around, too - - Weather-stripping for tailgate, still in plastic - - Rhino chaser grill - - A few sets of stock intakes and exhausts manifolds - - Gas tank, with skid plate. - - Rebuildable Q-jet - - Rebuildable Carter AFB, with electric choke kit in plastic. - - AMC 316 (I'm pretty sure it's rebuildable) with 3K miles on Edelbrock cam. - - I'm sure I have other stuff I need to get rid of, too. Make me an offer.... Some of the stuff I will ship, but shipping costs are extra. I don't think I'm still on the list (it was killing me to read about this stuff) so contact me directly. fredric.fitzgearld-at-intel.com West of Portland, OR - -----Original Message----- From: john [mailto:john-at-virtual-cafe.com] Sent: Monday, October 16, 2000 9:17 AM To: calligraphy-at-mail.saintmail.net Cc: fsj-at-digest.net; Fitzgearld, Fredric Subject: Re: Re: QT Info you need to talk to Fredric... he's got a deal for you on a Wide-Trac Waggy in Portland, Oregon. :) The problem with trying to make a wide trac out of a four door is the rear fender flares. First, a hello & introduction to all on the list - I recently purchased an FSJ (my second after a 5-year intermission) and recently subscribed to the list (what a great resource!). As typical of a newbie, I acknowledge, I don't have much to contribute (yet) except.... a request for help. Anybody have a recommendation for a good San Francisco Bay Area (south of the GGBridge preferred) mechanic? "Good" being defined as "knows FSJs, will work at least reasonably inexpensively, and can be trusted not to rob me." OK, maybe that's asking too much? Alternatively, anybody on the list more mechanically-inclined than I am interested in some shade-tree work? Basically, I just bought an '82 Cherokee, 360/AT. Love it, as I knew I would. It's needed a little bit of work to pass smog and repair the brakes. Now, I basically would really like someone to go over the engine and tell me if it needs anything else - either repair or preventive maintenance. Valve [adjustment/replacement/?]? Head gaskets? Carb tune? Other? Complete replacement [Hope not!]. It _seems_ to run great (cool temp, good oil pressure, smooth and strong (to me)), but every once in a while it does something I don't like (like, stall) so I just want someone to go over it for my own piece of mind. Any and all shop tips would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully, in time, I can repay the Karma Of The List with some useful information in the future. Thanks a bunch! I wouldn't recommend it. On top of that, you're probably right; you'd have a hard time matching ride height. Maybe look around for a good spring shop that does re-arch jobs. If you get a good shop to do it I understand it can last quite awhile. It can be a crap shoot tho. Cheaper than new springs or lift. But more than add-a-leafs. Jim, One of the best overall tools for determining vehicle shape/needs is the CSAA ("triple A") diagnostic centers, they hook you up to the diagnostic computer and run the tests and you end up with an interesting overview of the current condition of your rig. while not jeep specific, the computer diagnostic is pretty complete and last time i looked it was free. it might be a good place to start, and may give you the info you need to focus in on specific areas of repair. i think there is a location that does it in san mateo, you're in the 415/650 area correct? mike > First, a hello & introduction to all on the list - I recently purchased an > FSJ (my second after a 5-year intermission) and recently subscribed to the > list (what a great resource!).
