TEh 258 is a decent motor. I was happy with mine, but #2 cylinder had a broken ring... :( I was going to put the HOwell engines TBi on it... john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** john-at-wagoneers.com via PINE on Linux **** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://junkscience.com ** http://snopes.com ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA ...don't leave life without Jesus, please... - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 May 2001 13:12:25 -0700 (PDT) From: Carnuck2-at-webtv.net (jim blair) Subject: Re: fsj: What is this horrible screech coming from the passenger side A: LOL! Usually passengers in my Jeeps! ROFLMAO! (see subject line if you don't get it) I take the belts right off, because that eliminates the waterpump, alt and PS and AC pumps from the equation as well! From: "JC Jones" Sure sounds like a belt. Just to make sure, get a can of belt dressing and spray it on the belts and see if the noise goes away. ************************************* JimBlair, Seattle,WA '84 J10, '86 Comanche http://www.geocities.com/eaglemania2002/ http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumList?u=13998 ************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 May 2001 13:17:45 -0700 (PDT) From: Carnuck2-at-webtv.net (jim blair) Subject: fsj: Cherokee bodies (was: Re: fsj-digest V1 #1326) A: I think it was Willys America that had several brand new 2 door tubs, but the $5,000 price tag is tough to choke on! Resin bodies are a sort of cottage industry for hard-core modelers and it is a process where a limited run of bodies can be produced for vehicles for where there is   not sufficient demand to tool up a full injection mold. Does anyone make a full size replacement body for a FSJ? My current full sized jeep Cherokee wide trac is in great mechanical condition but the body is rusting away. I would love to have a new body especially one that wouldn't rust. Does anyone have any info on this? IF the High TAck stuff was thin then it'll probably be ok. The danger of other adhesives is twofold, 1) the goop can seep into the cylinders possibly damaging the rings, 2) it doesn't seal down tight enough and the goop will blow out under pressure. >--> >-->I appreciate your answer. >--> >-->PS. It is at: http://home.quixnet.net/~cosmic/EngineCalc.htm It isn't finished, so this can't even be considered to be a beta copy :) There are no instructions. You'll have to wing it ;-) I am open to suggestions for modifications and additions. I have some questions for the engine gurus. When I see heads advertised, they have a "chamber volume" rating (usually in CC). I see the same rating for pistons if they are dish pistons. Dome pistons, on the other hand, will say something like .100 dome, or .150 dome. What does this mean? Is this the height of the dome? Is there a way to convert this to a volume? When the pistons are installed, the tops may be flush with the block deck at TDC, or they may be recessed a bit (or maybe stick up a bit). What is this parameter called? Piston clearance? Deck height? I need to know how to label it on my program. What is a typical head gasked thickness? How thin/thick are they available? BTW, this calculator is designed to calculate displacememt (so you can see the effecto of stroking or boring your motor), compression (what will happen if you put flat top pistons into your 360?), and air intake requirement (based on volumetric efficiency, displacement, and maximum speed).
