I want one to match my GW. 12 degrees advance is a little high, but the spec would call for a very low idle rpm: 500-600. Not sure why this is so low, unless the engineers thought we all need crawl capability. So mechanical advance is probably already coming on by 1050 rpm. Try adjusting rpm down to spec and see what the difference is. Probably 8 degrees at idle is about right. I would say with your high idle that you've got a vacuum leak somewhere. Also, a bad spark plug is completely possible. If you've seen the links to the ignition upgrade for AMC V-8, it's easy to do, ($100? for cap, rotor, cap adapter, wires, plugs, coil, coil relay) and you'll eliminate a lot of possibilities. I've misplaced the link but I bet John has it on his site. It will make a big difference even if everything was ok to begin with. If your ignition module goes out (now that I've mentioned it, it will) probably best to invest in an MSD module to replace it. - - Landon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Jun 2001 20:59:14 -0400 From: William Killian Subject: fsj: Re: fsj-digest V1 #1358 > From: "Phillips, Scott" > Subject: fsj: Eco-Nazi Teacher Forces Eco-Doctrine on Students > > I got this from the nemx.org site: > > Teacher Uses Students as Political Puppets! > > About a week ago, a tragedy started to unfold in the Coventry Connecticut > high school 9th & 10th grade English classes that should shock anyone. > Especially anyone who believes in the right to free speech and the ability > for a person to have their own opinion. The cooler was originally in front of the radiator. I moved it to where it is now in the interest of better air for the radiator and the cooler can get really clean air. I did not plan to rough terrain with it. A new owner can relocate it. This is Las Vegas where our median summer temps are over 105 degrees! I have a thing for blue and black, and they let the home-made grille (the original grille was missing about two feet - the new one cost a whole 4.87 in parts to make since there were no inexpensive replacements available in Las Vegas). The black bezels also give the grille a nice 'floating' effect. I keep saying there is not enough personal responsibility in this country. Furthermore, too many "well meaning" folks have eroded our constitutional rights. We need to only enforce the laws that are on the books to deter crime. If I get a skin condition from working on my FSJ, do I sue everyone on the Digest list for supporting me? If I go 4-wheeling with a club or at an organized event like what is planned in Ouray, and I push my rig farther than it should be pushed and get hurt, is it the organizer's fault? I like a cigar once in a while, but if I get throat cancer, I'm led to believe that somehow it is not my fault! Who am I going to sue? Fidel Castro? Juan Valdez? Most crummy people I know are just waiting for that "lawsuit" that will set them up for life. They think of it like a lottery or an inheritance from a rich relative. It stinks and is really supported by the legal industry. Ask yourself this....how many of your government officials are NOT lawyers? How do lawyers make their money? Now you got it! I had the jeep dealer order a replacement switch for me , $60.00 bucks for the little metal switch. So I took apart my selector switch, put in the new one and it leaks :( , I can hear it hiss. I noticed a grease on the surface of the switch, I am guessing that there isn't enough of that stuff on the switch to make a good seal. Does anyone know what kind of grease to use if I was to add more (it's kinda yellowish white)? I am going to take that part back today to the dealer and see if they will order me another but I wonder if the switch would be fine if it had more grease. The new switch part number is a Mopar J3240218 Switch. Are you sure it's not just the vacuum hoses themselves? That's what it usually is; the hoses do rot after some years (how many years depends on climate, use, luck, etc.). And of course vacuum hisses can sometimes be hard to pinpoint exactly because of the noise of the engine, the sound bouncing off other surfaces (tight space), etc. And the hoses are cheap - -- you just buy a 25' or so spool somewhere and cut off what you want. I doubt the grease has much to do with it as long as the connector (nipple) is the proper size (not too small) and it's not halfway broken at the base (of the connector) or something. I'm planning on replacing all the vacuum hoses I run into during my TBI swap since they're right there and it's so cheap. Almost no extra work, and it'll be longer before I have to replace them again. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Energizer Bunny arrested, charged with battery. - -------------- Dan Black ------------------------- dan-at-black.org -------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Jun 2001 12:24:34 -0700 From: "allyoop" Subject: fsj: Quadratrac Vacuum Lines Looking under my '73 J4600 the other day I noticed two vacuum lines were detached from the rear of the unit on the passenger side.
