The sanyo unit was what I wanted, but > having no remote and the volume control on the other side of the truck > would be a problem... :( > > john Yes, my Sony 5600 looks much like that, the remote has identical controls on it to the large multi-function switch on the left of the face, plus a few more But John, for only $20.00 more you could have the unit with shortwave, rem, ember Crutchfield does charge shipping. So the Sony 610 will be $180.00 plus about $10.00 shipping and handling. The Sony unit from Dubai is $165.00 plus $50.00 shipping. That's $190.00 versus $215.00 delivered, is that enough to make you buy the unit sans shortwave? Pat ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 07 Jul 2001 20:30:38 -0700 From: Pat Hines Subject: fsj: Almost finished with the Cherokee body lift I completed the required lengthening of the shifter link today, used a junk yard shift link for a source of like steel in the correct diameter. I cut 2.5 inches of it and had that welded to the end of the stock Jeep part. It turned out that the new piece was just a little bit larger in diameter and had to be dressed down to fit, which I did on a 2 inch vertical belt sander. Cleaned up the weld nicely as well. I finished the tightening the body mount bolts, and since I couldn't find a torque value in the factory manual, I used 16 ft/lbs. which may be too much since the ride is noticeably "jiggly", more than expected with the urethane biscuits in there. Anybody know a more suitable torque for this application? The last item to modify is the linkage for the Quadratract shifter, which looks to be almost as easy as the tranny shift linkage was. Looks like it will take two welds because the lever is a rad that has been flattened on one end and drilled for the next link to fit in. I'll cut that and splice in another piece of the junker linkage. Looks like about 1.5 inches should do it. I think I've localized the problem to the weap hole in the bottom of the transfer case near the point where it hooks up to the tranny. What seal failure would cause this leak? Transfer case or tranny? Thanks, Brian Wall 86 GW OKC Date: Fri, 06 Jul 2001 22:48:44 -0500 From: JeepNut Subject: Re: fsj: More transfer case talk Hi Mr. Wall, Just had the 727 and 229 separated to isolate the leak I had between tranny and xfer case. It was heinous. Left a HUGE puddle when both were topped off. I wasn't able to be on hand for the work, but I have found a shop I am trying to trust. I just cannot do everything. He replaced 2 seals in the case and a shift shaft seal in the tranny. $350.00 in labor and parts. I guess my point is that you REALLY won't know which it is until you get them separated. Unless it's leaking bad enough. You could try filling the xfer case and see the fluid levels drop after a few miles of action. Then the tranny.
