On the sample charts, I have one from '88 and '89, it looks good. Not too dark, not too light. INTERIOR: The stereo is still looking to be a Single DIN unit... still haven't gotten word if the order is made from Dubai, UAE yet. :) Thankfully I'm not in a rush. :) Sony Xplod system is still the plan... Oh, yeah, interior... the idea is to use bedliner on the inside to quiet things down. Then paint the door trim/A pillars and such the same color as the exterior. The dash cover is tan/beige right now... of course a dash cover or dye could alter that, or it might even work with the color. Won't know until we shoot some of it. :) The XJ dash cluster and steering column are black. Makes it easy, pretty much goes with anything. :) The leather seats are light gray... well, mostly, the headrests are a very light tan from different seats, but are adjustable. :) CARPET COLOR: which brings me to the color of the carpet... I don't want it too light lest it get stained with grease, mud and other assorted stuff known to come from Jeeps of all kinds. :) But I don't want it too dark either... dark interiors are depressing... ya gotta remember where I live. :) If someone tells you to put something where the sun don't shine, well, ask me if I have room out in the yard for it... ;) anyway, Carpeting... Oh but it does Landon! You guys are infinitely helpful. I think I am on the right path to this pinging business pursuing heat. I can barely get it to ping at all with Ethyl in it. I love calling higher octane fuel Ethyl. It confuses the heck out of anyone younger than 40. Now that gas is cheap again ?!!? I can afford to run some 93 Octane in there every other tank or so. I know you guys out west wonder...the good stuff is running about $1.37-1.39 at Conoco stations here, Amoco/BP and UOCAL stations are about $1.45. Regular is anywhere from $1.23-1.35. At least I don't have to whip out TWO $20.00 to fill up now... Just one and a $10. I did change to a colder plug per Jim's top-ten-ways-to-cure-ping list. Went from an AC Delco R44XLS to an R43XLS and it made a difference. Didn't kill it all, but made a noticeable difference. Can I go lower yet? What OTHER effect would this have. Run like a dog? How Low Can We Go? I didn't want to "over do" the colder plug thing. Or mask the real problem. Any guidance there? A: Here's a copy of what I wrote them. I take umbrage at the ignorant finger- pointing of your article in the name of "reporting". A true report is supposed to be unslanted and check both sides of the story before taking a dump and using the constitution to wipe up afterwards! The jets flying over and "power plants" do much more damage than anyone that is using tread lightly rules to these areas. What is needed is not blockage to all, but advanced education for those that should know better. I have people call my vehicle a "gas hog", "enviro-unfriendly" and even "gross polluter", when nothing could be further from the truth. My daily transportation is a Jeep Comanche, because I haul light loads very often, and my company, in it's finite wisdom chose to have me work about as far from where I live as feasibly possible to still get to work (I own my house, which is something I could NOT do in the Seattle Eastside area where I work) It only gets 20-28 mpg (4 cyl 5 speed) but I have made it run as clean as possible with gasoline and my limited time/income. My other vehicle is a 2 year in the making (so far) project that will give me more load capability with less emissions and lower fuel consumption than I have now. (I estimate 20-30 mpg) My '84 Jeep J10 (about the same size as a full size Chev pickup, but classier) with modified AMC inline 6 cyl, 4 speed automatic, liquid propane fuel injection (which is still needing parts I don't have time to finish building, or the money to purchase elsewhere yet) and a hybrid electric drive (I came up with the idea of adding an electric motor to my transfercase about 20 years ago, but didn't have the money or time then to go ahead with it either) If I stick to the presently marked trails, (which I fully intend to do as I have in the past) I will exhaust about the same amount of CO2 as a dozen hikers, with minimal excess HC or NOx, and I will then be able to drive to a point where I CAN walk to see these fantastic sights (I grew up in Canada and moved to the big city of Seattle, which has made me yearn for the wide open places I can't afford, and am unable to access anymore by hiking, due to injuries I have had over the last few years. I am not fully handicapped, but with so many idiots causing me injury accidents here, I am unable to enjoy the freedom of personal movement I once had) But what of other people with far worse handicaps than mine? Do we just say "Sorry, but the forests are closed from now on for your own best interests, even though you will never be able to see them". What's wrong with CONTROLLED entry into these areas for those that truly love to be in the country, where one can feel truly free, if only for a minute, and only those that care enough to not destroy all that beauty they see. Why not find someplace for those that want to rip and destroy to play, and let those that care about what's around us enjoy it's spendor in a truly scientifically environmentally safe way! ************************************* JimBlair, Seattle,WA '84 J10, '86 Comanche http://www.geocities.com/eaglemania2002/ http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumList?u=13998 ************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Jul 2001 00:05:54 -0700 (PDT) From: Carnuck2-at-webtv.net (jim blair) Subject: Re: fsj: Re: 1987 Jeep Wranglers A: Although Chrysler may try to lay claim to the inline 6 in the Jeep, they only modified the head and EFI (in '91) then added all the plastic garbage and compujunk that breaks down to the latest models. (I hear there is yet another wheelbearing/axle/brake recall in the works) The venerable 225 slant six disappeared from all but the B series vans in the early '80s (along with rear wheel drive cars) and was totally gone by -at-86, so it never got fuel injected like the Ford 300 six did. I'm one of the first ones to use a blowby bottle (mine even had a trickle back tube to the oil pan) on an AMC 6 (always seemed to be high milers or poorly maintained) I got the idea from a sort of similar design on a '70 Mazda 1800. They had blowby from the get go (probably because the design was a copy of BMW and British cars of the time) They got the HO 4.0L in '91, then the YJ became a TJ around '93 I think, and got the AMC 4 cyl with EFI and a shorter wheelbase (no 4 speed automatic because of this, which was a shame) Not many people know how to fix or understand the Carter BBD Carb (I'm one of probably a 1000 or so in this country that seem to have no problems with them, and even I'm going to EFI!)
