On my '90 GW there is some clear coat starting to fade in a few spots on the hood and on the vent strip between the hood and the windshield. It looks like little white speckles. The original finish on the rest of the car is in great shape. QUESTION: Is it possible to buff off and respray just the clear coat on the hood and vent strip? Or does new paint need to go on there? The paint underneath looks in fine shape and I'd prefer to just to have the clear coat redone. Somebody cross-threaded my #6 plug hole, and now it barely holds the plug. You'll get the hang of it, but it may not go as quickly as you like. Some people like to put dielectric grease on the plugs to make sliding the plug wire boots on and off more easy. Before you go out and spend money on the ignition, check out the AMC V8 ignition upgrade. http://www.ifsja.org/tech/electrical/ignitionupgrade.shtml I've bought 3? modules since acquiring the wag about 20 months ago. It's getting to the point where an MSD module is attractive, depending on your budget. I strongly recommend the ignition upgrade, including coil. - - Landon > Hi folks, > I am doing my first tuneup on my recently acquired '90 GW. Even though the ride isn't as nice as the WJ and it doesn't have as many bells and whistles, I like the XJ "feel" better. Better visibility, better handling "feel"... if just feels right. It's not like the WJ or KJ. The only thing I like better is my SJ (j10). So, we're going to sell the WJ, trying to decide a price since it's got a little black cloud hovering over it since it's a "theft recovery" vehicle. And then start shopping for a "low" mileage (i.e. less than 40,000 miles by my wife's definition) XJ. Labor Day is the target date for me to return to the saddle of SuperDawg. Still gathering a few jewels for him... stereo pieces, carpet.. and so on... rumour has it that he will be dismembered this weekend... yee haw... Prefer lighter colors... And if you're interested in a '99 WJ with 33,000 miles and all the bells and whistles, let me know. I'll even go through the brakes before selling it. It's a beautiful rig... there are only two things wrong with it: 1) it has a car payment and 2) it doesn't have the visibility or "feel" of an XJ or SJ. CO isn't so strict on vehicle mods (you can get away with a lot) but they can be just as dumb and aggrivating as what you describe sometimes. I haven't had many bad experiences, but I have to say they have awfully high expectations for FSJs -- the emissions limits decrease by year. So a 1991 is supposed to blow less than a 1980 in spite of the fact that the emissions systems are basically identical. How smart is that? Why not set limits based on the vehicles' original designs rather than their year of manufacture?
