This time I used 1.75" copper pipe and fittings to build the curved sections and most of the rest. So far, I've worked with PVC, steel, and copper to build fuel fillers. They each have different benefits and drawbacks. Here's how I rate them. Steel - will rust, inexpensive, hard to work with. PVC - won't rust, inexpensive, easy to work with, kinda bulky. Copper - kinda expensive, not too hard to work with, fits well in tight spaces. Around here Napa only carries 2" fuel line and it's $9/ft. Industrial hose suppliers carry all sizes and cost almost half as much. >I'd forgotten how much of a pain early FSJs were to fuel up, >either that or my '77 Cherokee has something wrong with the vents. The stock filler configuration on my '71 filled like a dream. I remember a friend's '77 Wagoneer that filled very slowly. He was a nitpicker on maintenance so I'm pretty sure that's just the way the factory built it. However, junkyard research indicates minimal differences in filler and venting design between Kaiser and AMC era FSJs. Sorry guys for the mistake , to one and all, I sent forward of a FYI to all lists, of a place that sold Wood Grain for FSJ's and other auto after market stuff as well it seems for a bunch of other stuff. check the site you will see... So anyway, I forgot to erase the other part... But, what I really wanted to point out was this just in case you did not know and to any new members with this problem, since it is a truly common FSJ problem. There was a recent post that a member had found a company that sold wood grain for FSJ's The web site is .. http://www.sharpline.com The Grand Wagoneer for example , looks like, Burma Teak.. but they also have other colors.. I have also contacted myself them, via email, and left a snail mail address and phone number. A pleasant sounding woman promptly called me. ( I mention us, of course, as a good member should and FSJ mag and she will pass the info to her manager, so they what a FSJ is (she asked what is a FSJ?)) , and the fact we exist!) So they are sending a catalog, with samples and stuff, ( I am sure they will do the same for you as well for free... ..;) You see over the years, I have this question come up a hundred times.. where to get the wood grain.. for the waggys?... I wish I knew when I had a waggy! So mark it in the favorites under supplies.. okay? They come in rolls though,.. so you have to learn to cut it your self with a sharp razor knife, which its not hard to install with a little talent and practice. They also do other after Market auto stuff, plus other items.. so the catalog should be interesting and it's free! Sorry guys for the Boo Boo! R.J. Sneaking a post.... I found a '76 Chero in the boneyard with an intact defroster grid and leads on the rear window, so I snagged it. Problem is, it has 3 layers of nasty tint on it; the first two peel right off, but the last layer is onion-skin thin and I can't get it off without a razor blade... which I'm afraid is going to mess up the defroster grid. I've already tried the hair drier and that doesn't work. Is there some solvent or chemical or some trick to getting this junk off?
