Almost all of the trails are easy. Any stock Jeep or SUV can do almost every trail in the area without risk of body damage (accept Black Bear Pass). Scenic beauty is off the scale, and that's why we go back. This is an excellent area for anyone who is not into hard-core wheelin. You can literally drive on about a hundred miles of trails, and take trips to Lake City, Silverton and Telluride without ever leaving the trail. Tons of history with several well preserved ghost towns and mines. High altitude trails that may not be open before late June /Early July. This area is best in mid-September when the Aspens are changing. I recommend staying at the Best Western at the south edge of town. The natural hot springs pools are perfect after a long trail ride. Check it out next fall. If you find the old one, see if {- it looks burst open. It may have had a spec of something jam the check {- valve closed, which would pop the filter off in a flash. Interesting. Didn't find it, but the mechanic (and owner) at the shop I took it to says he's seen some oil filters in the past that were machined wrong and even though the felt tight putting them on, the threads didn't really hold well, so they'd rattle off quickly. He said they even had one specific line (that they were using) recalled once for just that, though sounded like it was several years ago. So that's another possibility. It's also still very possible that I simply didn't get it as tight as I thought, and it took a day (and probably some temperature changes from driving a few times) to loosen it enough to come off. If I had done something blatantly stupid, I'd be kicking myself, but I really didn't - -- this wasn't some dumb error or a newbie thing, it just happened, I guess. So I'll make sure I get it a little bit snugger in the future to be safe (even if it means making it harder to get off -- at least we have an easy angle at it on the FSJs) and chalk the rest up to chance. (Oh, and since I bought two other identical filters at the same time, in case it _was_ a problem with the manufacture of that line for a time, I'm going to be really careful and watchful when I install the other two. Or if the second one goes out, I'll notify the company and have a third to show them.) BTW, last night and this morning, it did seem to run fine -- good pressure, no ticking, etc. {- I'm also finding out how much it will cost to get 3.31 gears (or {- something in that range) put in -- I have the 2.72s now. 'k. From what someone said a few weeks back, it sounded like the 3.31s were an option on I think the '84ish-up, while 2.72 was standard. So I don't know how easy/hard it will be to find one with the axles I want. But it also sounds like it will be easier and cheaper to just find good used axles like I want than to replace the gears in my existing ones. I'm going with 8" taller springs, and its going to set me back less than a thousand bucks with shipping...that cost does not include shocks. They do come with bushings, but not bolts, nor U-bolts. Alcan says I may or may not need new U-bolts because of a thicker spring pack. I should have them in my garage in 3 weeks...and hopefully in the rig in 4 weeks. When I was speaking with them to ensure we were talking about the same vehicle (not a flat-fender Wagon...a Wagoneer) they referred to my Willys as a J162 or J164...need to make sure I'm getting the right length springs.... thanks, jeff This electronic message transmission, including any attachments, contains information from Prescription Solutions which may be confidential or privileged.
