Talked to the guy that's buying my '54 Chevy stepside bed and he still has it. We were going to buy the xfr case, but I worked a good deal with him on the Diesel driveline in trade for the Chev box. So, the plans at this point are to fix my carport so I have a shop, drag the 75 J10 home, turn the J10 frame/bed into a trailer, locate a good Wagoneer chassis, install the little Cummins in it and mount the J10 cab. Then I'll build a custom lightweight flatbed for it and reduce weight everywhere I can so I have an economical daily driver. Of course this will be a project that will take a long time, no rush... I've always wanted a Diesel FSJ. Finally going to do it. :) Will also build this one for wheeling... :) Superdawg of course will be the luxury work of art. I'm not sure if I want to keep my T-5 out of SuperDawg or try to come up with an automatic that will work with the Cummins... the T-5 would work the best, but I hate shifting... ;) In the meantime my wife wants me to keep driving the little Ford Diesel Ranger... she's quite happy with me having both the J10 and the Ranger... so once I get the Diesel J10 done the little ranger will go away. :) We've also come to the realization that the 1999 Grand Cherokee is not very economical to operate... not sure what's up with it, last tank was 12mpg... oh wait, my wife filled it the last time, I bet she didn't fill it all the way... anyway, even if it were 15mpg it's thirsty and needs to be fueled up all the time. I'm going to look around for a late model XJ Cherokee or maybe a Tahoe with a 6.5L TD. Guess that means the WJ is for sale if anyone is interested. Let me know if you know of any '97 and up XJ's that are loaded in the Seattle/Portland/Spokane/Vancouver (bc or us) areas... later, john - - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** john-at-wagoneers.com often via PINE on Linux ** (prefer plain text emails please!) ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. ...and remember, leaving life without Jesus just isn't recommended... - - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Apr 2002 11:10:23 -0700 From: john meister Subject: fsj: frankenstein or igor? On 4/30/02 7:04 AM, > Good luck with your latest Frankenstein, > Alec You know that's exactly what I was thinking of calling it.. either that or Igor. :) Trying to decide what body to put on top of the Wagoneer chassis... saw a 4x4 AMC Gremlin this morning... seen pinto's, mercedes 115's... not sure I want to use the '75 J10 cab on it or not... SUGGESTIONS for a cool body on a 108" wheel base chassis??? :) Maybe a 123 wagon... :) Since I'll probably use this as a daily driver/4 wheeling rig I'd like it compact, but comfortable... :) Or maybe I should stuff it in an XJ body? hmmm.... If I can find a late model GW chassis, with driver side drop, I'll consider using the T-5/NP208 out of Superdawg. (Had slated that for Rambo, but probably not going to keep him... :( I'd prefer an Automatic, so I'll have to figure out what will work with the A series Cummins Turbo Diesel. What automatic trans w/ an Xfr case will this work with? Engine # 53126777 Family : 6ATB 4P115 120 HP -at- 3600 RPM Research shows that this was either used in a UPS truck in Hawaii, or was a Generator... it was made by Onan. :) It's a nice motor, quiet... about the size of a 258 I-6. This will be a long term project... my "dream" Diesel powered "FSJ" (but doesn't have to be an FSJ body). At the rate I move this will probably take somewhere between 5 and 15 years to complete... gives me something to live for, eh? ;) fwiw, the goal is economy/reliability... lighter weight is probably better... :) john - - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** john-at-wagoneers.com often via PINE on Linux ** (prefer plain text emails please!) ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. ...and remember, leaving life without Jesus just isn't recommended... - - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #1633 **************************
