I checked this afternoon, as far as I know he's still in intensive care... the witnesses I talked to said the pickup just swerved right into the truck... the guys in the honda were in the slow lane when it happened... man, they were very fortunate... going head to head with a vehicle roughly 10 times your mass with both vehicles going 55 mph produced dramatic results... while there was debris all over the place, most of the pickup truck and components went BACKWARDS from the point of impact... mind boggling... imagine heading along at 55 mph UPHILL and all of a sudden stopping instantly and being sent in the reverse direction... the energy released upon impact was simply amazing. My wife recognized the sound... the little wagoneer made a similar sound... not quite as loud... she knew almost instantly what happened. I thought it was gunfire in the woods... john - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Jul 2002 09:14:55 +0000 From: Machinedoc-at-attbi.com Subject: fsj: how do the front axles come out? Hi John, The fronts are relatively easy. Pull the hubs, then get out your big nut socket and remove the spindle nuts, then remove the hub/rotor assembly, then mark the position (For re-installation) of the spindle and Gently remove the six nuts holding it on, then gently pull out the axle shaft. now is a good time to replace the axle bearings and seals and maybe the u-joints too, if needed. At least replace the bearings and seals, they are pretty cheap. I hope this helps. You know the number if you need more assistance. So, do, as best we can figure we do the following: 1) pull the hubs off 2) not sure how to get the guts out, snap ring? 3) then slide the rotor/bearings off the end of the axle? 4) then remove the bolts on the housing? 5) then attach chain to back of wife's Jeep and pull axle shaft??? ;) help. going to sleep... son will get up around noon and we'll decide if we're going to try it... or just take it to olympic or randy's... :) john ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Jul 2002 21:46:37 -0500 From: "Vince Orr" Subject: fsj: Re: J-10 seats Welcome back Brian! Safe driving is best. Plus I'm taking my daughter along. She even torqued down the rockers on Rez's new engine! But really, the previous owner told me that Rez once took on a semi - with a load of logs - and survived with a dinged front bumper, a dent in the left front fender (still there), and cracked windshield (replaced). Semi's beware! REZ is going to Colorado! If I can ever get my engine in that is....... I may have to drag it there.
