Transmissions seem to go out on those things around that time. They're nice rigs, but they'll always have something that will need fixing. Basically reliable though, they'll get you home. :) They're thirsty too. 10 to 12 mpg, maybe 13 or so if you're lucky. The back windows can be a real pain. However, they ride great and will go just about anywhere. :) john On 4/19/02 11:23 AM, "lah" wrote: > Dear John, > I saw your 1981 jeep on a jeep website, > I am lookig at buying a 1981 exactly like yours, it has 100,000 miles on it. > I am a women so I dont know much about jeeps!! I wouldn't go out of my way for another of this vintage... :) 71 to 73 are another group... AMC v8's, closed knuckle front axle, no disc. 5 lug. these are the least desirable bunch, sorry Ben... 74 to 79 is all AMC/TH400/QT disc, 6 lug - many prefer this grouping. not a bad vintage to have... 80 and up, AMC v8, torqueflite/NP/6 lug... most desirable... as far as I'm concerned... mainly because of the "fuel" economy modes, lighter, New process xfr cases, etc... john - - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** john-at-wagoneers.com often via PINE on Linux ** (prefer plain text emails please!) ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. ...and remember, leaving life without Jesus just isn't recommended... - - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Apr 2002 20:27:09 -0700 From: john meister Subject: fsj: Re: [FSJparts] 1989 GW FOR SALE too bad I didn't find it BEFORE it left Oregon. :) Julian is trying to move to Oregon, came out, bought it, drove it back to WI. Now needs to sell it to finish moving... It's the color I wanted and everything... problem is threefold, no money, no time to retrieve it and no sunroof... ;) Someone back east needs to snag it. :) On 4/20/02 7:20 PM, "JP" wrote: > It is " LOOKS GREAT IN AND OUT " ! ! ! ! > >> From: john meister >> Reply-To: FSJparts-at-yahoogroups.com >> Date: Sat, 20 Apr 2002 11:51:45 -0700 >> To: FSJparts >> Subject: Re: [FSJparts] 1989 GW FOR SALE >> >> On 4/20/02 9:30 AM, "JP" wrote: >> 1989 GRAND WAGONEER >> CLEAN WEST COAST VEHICLE-( LIC. Many of you brought up things that I hadn't considered. Since I didn't explain myself at all and everyone is sharing... I looked at this from an otherwise ignorant Kaiser-era perspective: '84 -'91, essentially Chrysler FSJs - no manual nothin' on Wags '74 - '83, disc brakes, slightly more driver leg room in Wagoneers, Dana 44 front axle, 6-bolt wheels, a real fuse panel, removable rear seat, Motorcraft ignition, etc. '73 and earlier, until the re-designed interior and Quadra-trac in '73, these are all basically Kaiser rigs. I lump '73 in with them even though it's only real similarity is the grill and the front axle. Alot of people like to point out the AMC motors in '71, but Kaiser used so many different motors that the AMC variety doesn't really stand out.
