Is quadratrac like part time or 4hi or somthing only? In any event, there is this lever next to the drivers seat that says 4 wheel driver or somthing on it, I can't remember, but it's deffinatly a shifter of some sort, and the glove box says to shift it one way for 4 wheel drive. Anyhow, right now that's not connected to anything, I checked underneeth, and there is a big-ars shifted on the floor near the drivers side, that has an H on it (for direction of shifting) and the previous owner said that was the 4 wheel drive. Is that an expensive thing to do? And are my assumptions right? I found a thing on John's site about the Borg-Warner quadratrac with some emergency switch or somthing. But I don't get this other shifter. It's a 77 Chief btw, and it has locking hubs up front, Dana 44's front and rear (which are both offset to the passenger side, too bad those SOB's won't work in my XJ) on 38x13 super swampers. Here's a picture of it behind my XJ: http://www.mike-g.net/jeep/misc/sj4.jpg - ---- mike-g-at-mike-g.net . http://www.mike-g.net/ KG6MDD boom.boom.beep.beep 5-6" lift, 32" tires, 4.56's, gears, ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Aug 2002 21:37:36 -0500 From: "Vince Orr" Subject: fsj: Re: Hot Rez Nope, using a new stock temp sensor in the same position as the stock one. Only difference is the Edelbrock intake. My current plan is to install the 160 degree thermostat I bought today. I also have a new 4 core radiator on the way. If that doesn't make it cool, nothing will. I'll probably have to change to a hotter thermostat before winter but I definitely don't want my new engine overheating in Colorado. Putting on a cool Killer 32 rear bumper tomorrow. Looking for a whip antenna and mount for the CB. Need tow hooks for the bumper. Also need to tweak the kick down on the linkage to the carb, it is too tight and keeps the Rez in low gears too long. Not shifting smooth because of that. - --Vince '81 Wagoneer, 360, 727, np219, D44 front, AMC 20 rear - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joe Hughes" To: "'Vince Orr'" Sent: Friday, August 02, 2002 12:38 AM Subject: RE: Hot Rez > Maybe your seeing the opposite of what I'm seeing. I believe, it's more like 190-192 degrees, it's made to run warmer... Your likely to ruin the engine and pistons if you do, because the rings will heat up enough to expand, thus,... getting blow by, and micro fracturing the block pistons, or pre detention on the pistons from the cool running temps . I am going to try to make it Ouray, so I am using every spare time I have to work on it, and I have been doing some research on FSJ's on my lunch breaks so I have some info regarding a few subjects I have seen going around in the fe weeks I have been on the list. First the Borg warner QT is a very tough transfer case, and racers have relied on it because it's strong yet still easy to work on and light weight. It's the same one found on Early Range Rovers by the way and these things are raced a lot in Europe without any modifications. The only thing required for these cases is good maintenance, basically regular change of the special fluid, and as in every chain driven case, change of chain when it stretches. Now another option we have now is the mile marker part time kit, where the clutch pack in the center diff that acts like a limited slip, is replaced by gears and you even have the option of an 16% overdive so you can have lower gears in axles and maintain the highway speed increasing the 2.54:1 ratio this case already has. This kit comes with front locking hubs, so I guess this is the kit that this 77 FSJ has, the one for sale. On monday I will probably put a link to all the Files I gathered from FOURWHEELER, the internet and various catalogs on the FSJ's if anyone is interested, or if someone has a website already I can upload them to it. I live in Sacramento CA, so in case there is someone on my route to Ouray maybe we can go in a small convoy, keep each other company? My Jeep is a '75 Wagoneer, 360", TH400, QT, D44 Fr/Bk, 33" or 35".
