FWIW, I use either reverse drills or square easy outs to avoid trouble (I use the biggest possible too!) Vince wrote: So I tried to tease it out but of course it broke off in the tranny. I've spent almost the entire day with easyouts trying to get the little stub out of the tranny. Not much room to work. Now my easyout is in the hunk of brass fitting and spinning, not gripping anymore. I tried to back it out, it's not moving in or out, just sits and spins, no luck. As I sit here contemplating what to do, I realize that the only way I'm probably going to get this little sucker out is to drop the tranny and transfer case. ANOTHER huge project! Guys, as I sit here covered in oil, sweat, and dirt, I'm thinking the good Lord didn't intend for me to go to Ouray this year. It's been one snag after another and at this point it's going to take an act of congress to get me there. So my choices remain........come in the TJ or don't come at all........and somehow, taking the TJ just doesn't seem to make any sense to me. At this point, I'm so darn tired and disappointed, I don't know what I'm going to do next. I can't believe a 20 cent fitting is keeping me from a trip I've been planning for the last 2 years! - - --Vince '81 Wag '99 TJ ************************************* JimBlair, Seattle,WA '84 J10, '86 MJ http://www.geocities.com/eaglemania2002/ Black Jack's before pic: http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/jim-b-J10.jpg ************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 03 Aug 2002 22:12:07 -0700 From: john Subject: fsj: ouray problems not unique to FSJs my '99 WJ is leaking tranny fluid up by the radiator... the shop busted the radiator and replaced it when doing some work last visit... suspect it may be a loose line, but either I get dirty to fix it or find the time to take it back... argghhh... we'll be pulling out Sunday for a nice relaxed adventure with the plan of being in Ouray well ahead of the pack. :) hate traffic congestion you know... ;) john - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 03 Aug 2002 22:17:01 -0700 From: john Subject: fsj: Re: 360 transplant At 01:12 AM 8/4/2002 -0400, Pete M. wrote: >Saw you did the swap&. >I m looking at doing the same thing into mine& >Have you got a write-up somewhere? >Thanks, > Pete not me... (this is the one used for the freeway scene) http://wagoneers.com/awsom50/ There were four cars used in the movie. One was used as the tow behind prop for all the shots with Stallone looking macho, Stallone bought that one. One was destroyed going off the second floor of the parking garage. One was destroyed when it hit the boat and also ended the use of the car in the movie. There was one specially built for the stunt on the freeway where Stallone spins it around, runs in reverse while shooting up a Ford pickup, then spinning it back around and continuing on... that's this one... complete with the bullet holes in the trunk lid. It was purchased after the movie was finished by a now retired road racer and auto collector friend of mine who used to compete in the Pan American road races from Guatamala to Texas. (the owner wishes to preserve his privacy, so if you know who it is please don't share it publicly, thanx). Anyway, I saw the car today. It's a lot better then I expected. This thing is over 52 years old and looks great! I loved the Recaro seats and the five-point harnesses... the gauges are incredible... for instance, temperature of either head... the wiring is super clean, check out the pictures of under the dash! It needs the motor mounts installed, the blower and carb installed and a few odds and ends. Done in keeping with the work already done you're looking at more then a few hours and a few bucks. But quite realistically this thing could be made driveable by an average mechanic in a weekend. There is a 351 Cleveland out of a Pantera under the hood... the list of spare parts and features will take me a long time to catalog and list for the ebay auction. It has four wheel discs from a Vette, Camaro front suspension, dual fuel tanks, dual coils, dual batteries, gauges for everything... including brake pressure! It's set up for racing, but could just as easily be setup for daily driving. It has immediate recognition from the movie! I'll probably go back and take more pictures and gather more information on the car's history. The current owner has literally thousands of hours in building this car up from the frame up after buying and racing it. It even has a complete fiberglass front clip in addition to the sheet metal front end... two rear ends, the hubcaps and fender skirts used in the movie, and new hubcaps... the list goes on and on... he's even got the spotlights used in the movie for it! Anyway, here's some of the pictures I took today, enjoy: http://wagoneers.com/awsom50/ Let me know if you want to know when it comes up on ebay toward the end of August 2002. I'll be off at a Full Size Jeep event in Colorado for the next couple of weeks and I need to be around when it goes up. Not sure what it's worth, but the NADA guide puts high retail for the car at over $23,000, and that's for a car that isn't a movie star... My son and I watched part of the Cobra movie just to better appreciate what we saw today... I decided I want the Hurst shifter used in the movie in my J10... ;) later, john-at-wagoneers.com john meister snohomish, washington - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- john-at-wagoneers.com http://www.wagoneers.com http://www.billygraham.org/spiritualhelp/steps.asp http://www.helpmewithbiblestudy.org/ http://www.freegift.net/ - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 04 Aug 2002 07:34:28 +0000 From: Machinedoc-at-attbi.com Subject: fsj: Re: Hot Rez Hi Vince, Just something to consider before leaving that 160 thermostat in place. If that was a fresh motor then it needed to be burped. To go through the heating and cooling cycle a few times to remove the trapped air in the block. Fresh motors are generally dry and have to have the air pockets worked out to cool properly. Just my 2 cents. Curtis ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 04 Aug 2002 14:09:29 -0500 From: "R.J. Need to research and document all that's there. Yes, it's a serious racing machine. But it would be completely streetable too. That 351 Cleveland is out of a Pantera! It comes with the blower and carb, so putting it together won't be too bad really... I look at it and think, yeah, I could put this thing on the road in a weekend no sweat. Then I talk to the guy building it and realize that the way it's been built so far is so radically different then what I'm used to that in his mind it's many hours to completion, and mucho bucks. He said he's got thousands of hours of work into this thing already. And it shows... He also mentioned that the car almost set the speed record for a flathead V8... he blew the motor in the process, and I think that's when he got the 351 Cleveland. I didn't put all the pictures up yet until I've got everything sorted out, but even the wiring is labeled... on the wire... and there are redundant circuits, fuses and switches!!! I think we'll try to sell it as is, if it doesn't go then we'll put it together and try again later. I think the value is there and any serious party will quickly recognize where it's at and what it'll take to complete. I wasn't sure until I saw it. After seeing it I'm comfortable with selling it this way. People buying a car like this will either know how to finish it or will have someone do it for them. :) I will take more pictures later showing all the accessories and spare parts. If we can we might roll it out of the shop and take pictures out in the open... but that'll be hard, it's been stored away for some time now. :) This car has three things going for it. It's a nice straight 1950 that has been modified properly, it's got an incredible history in racing, and it's a very popular movie star. john - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 04 Aug 2002 22:27:16 -0700 From: john Subject: fsj: a beautiful J10... stepside...
