The owner had $1,000 scratched of and now had $800 on it. To tell the truth it looked like a work truck that was not well cared for, just fixed as needed. Looks like it may still be driveable so it might make a good part truck. (My '73 J-4000 is in much better shape.) The owner's numbers are: 857-6420 769-8465 It is located on the west side of 94, a couple miles north of the point where 41 joins 94. All packed up and ready, yet is seems fate has turned an ugly hand... Well I wouldn't think that the trouble is the bad capacitor. A capacitor is what it is and it is to suppress ignition noise, essentially, in the radio as I understand it. But as I thought about it, then maybe that could translate to noise in the system in general, meaning... I wonder if a bad one of those could contribute to Ignition Module failure? Could the "noisy" signals cause some feedback or otherwise cause discontent with the Ignition Module... Wish you were closer, I've got a spare or two laying around here somewhere... Mine's nickel and diming me now that I've spent some big bucks on her this year... I've got a bearing growling in the RR and is leaking grease where the left tube is pressed into the big part in the middle of the axle assy (hogshead?). Any idea what makes an axle assy leak around the tube junctions? Better yet, what has to be done to stop it? JeepNut Vince Orr wrote: > > Was loading up the Rez Runner, got in to start the engine. To think that we're actually headed to Ouray, Colorado to meet up with a couple hundred(???) other FSJ owners from all over the country to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the SJ model.... I'm not sure I can explain why. I guess it's a "Jeep" thing. :) Anyway, just ftp'd the latest set of pictures. Today I'm on my wireless NIC at the Best Western in Sandy, UT (yesterday used my cell phone) Today we started in Ontario, OR, just across the snake river from Idaho. Started the day with a flat on the trailer. Unpacked the 12v aircompressor and we were off... :) Got to Boise, took "Curtis Rd" exit into downtown looking for fuel and antiques, found both. Almost 90 degrees, windy. Right at 16 mpg, dropped a little, mountains and trailers don't make for economy runs. :) Got underway around 2pm I guess... saw a white '69 Wagoneer with the hood up on I-84 near Twin Falls, immediately pulled over... didn't look good... antifreeze mixed with the oil... on the road... all over the road... http://www.wagoneers.com/ouray/Aug12-john-day2/ouray-john-twinfalls-id-69wag-13.jpg I've seen a number of destroyed engines, but this one was one of the worst. :) The lady had help coming, she wasn't heading to Ouray and she'd just spent about $4k having the engine rebuilt and hoping it's under warranty... We ended up driving non-stop from Boise until the fuel light came on and the computer said we had zero miles left... :) (Hey, I was looking for a Pizza Hut and a Shell station... ;) I figured that the computer might not be lying so I took the next exit and there was a Pizza Hut and a gas station. Right at 16mpg again, cruising at 75 mph towing a 1,400lb trailer in 90 degree weather at over 4,000 feet. Anyway, we met up with my friend in SLC, dropped off the trailer that will be loaded with the TH400/QT and whatever other FSJ parts might fall into it and will pick it up when we leave SLC next week. Expect our fuel economy to jump back up to 19 or 20mpg for the trip down to 4 corners and Mesa Verde. Looks like about 7 hours down to there... not sure where we'll stay. For sure we'll be in Ouray on Wednesday, Lord Willing of course. :) I hope that everyone else is making good progress. It would have been nice to have had my '83 J10 put together, but we're both happy to have the '99 WJ (Grand Cherokee) for this trip. The seats are great and it's a superb road car. (and great off-road too, had to 4 wheel out of my yard and up the "test" hill because I couldn't turn around in my driveway... my son had parked his '77 Cherokee in the way.. ;) today's pictures: http://www.wagoneers.com/ouray/Aug12-john-day2/ http://www.wagoneers.com/ouray/Aug12-john-day2/all-aug12-ouray-john.jpg yesterday: http://www.wagoneers.com/ouray/Aug11-john-day1/ http://www.wagoneers.com/ouray/Aug11-john-day1/all-ouray-john-aug11-2002.jpg BTW, the last I heard from Paul Kershner was this morning, he had found a used xfr case, was borrowing the tranny shop owner's truck to get it, and was planning on leaving in the morning. The shop was charging him about $165 for the R&R on the xfr case, exactly what I estimated (3 hrs). (Note this picture: http://www.wagoneers.com/ouray/Aug11-john-day1/ouray-john-hardtimes-OR-8.jpg we passed Paul in Baker City, OR yesterday... his transfer case troubles started near Dead Man Hill Pass. Got in touch with the group from the bay area/Reno. They're about 100 miles or so west of us right now, all were doing ok. I guess Curtis is "Ouray Tech Support". :) Jim Blair is planning on leaving Seattle tomorrow... Tomorrow, we're heading south to Four Corners and Mesa Verde... :) (wait, it's tomorrow already... need to get some sleep.:) later, john meister On Tue, 13 Aug 2002, g_kittelson wrote: >-->Thanks for the updates, for those of us that have the last of the >-->dinosaurs, it is fun to hear the trials and tribulations of >-->the "remnant" that journey to Ouray. >-->There is a group of us that wish we could have gone, but your reports >-->put us in your convoy, and we can laugh and cry, sometimes in the >-->same instance, about your adventure. Well, unless you've put GM ignition in it, the ignition module he's talking about is probably the one on the fenderwell that says duraspark something or other on it. Grey-potmetalish box. May even have a big AMC sticker on it. Just buying a rebuilt distributor wouldn't necessarily replace that box, unless you know you did. Yes, I know there's an electrogizmo in the distributor, but I think he's talking about the spark box.
