I just sold a TJ that was pretty worked up and bought a 87 GW. Im trying to do some research this time so I don't have to redo to much. Im going through the motor as we speak. next comes the suspension. I might just go with a regular suspension lift-- don't know yet I really want 35's. Well we will see, again thanks for the info, any tips or advice is greatly appreciated. I have a SOA Dana 44 stock front axle (from a GM) that bolts right into '74 to pre-'80 Wide Track Cherokees (only 2 doors with flares can be wide track, but not all them are) or same years J pickup (I currently have it bolted into my '84 J10, but it's the wrong side axle drop for my transfercase, so I have to weld my own up) You would need to swap your knuckles onto it (it comes with my old ones) and currently has 3.08 gears (I have a set of 3.31 and may have others that I can deal on. I'd swap a near new set of D44 4.10 gears for the same to fit my Model 20) I'm selling the Chev SOA front axle for $200, and I have a pair of D44 axles from a '75 J10 with 4.10 ratio for $300 (the rear has a bad trash-loc, and I haven't opened the front yet to see what kind of posi it has) My son will be selling the D30 and D44 from his '66 Wag (as well as other parts) but the front is closed knuckle and I'm not sure what ratio (it was originally a military spec rig from the local base according to the brass tag he found inside) You can go a dropped pitman arm, but for the best steering setup, http://www.offroaddesign.com will machine a flat top RH steering knuckle (you can use a GM LH knuckle) and you can lift the tierods above the springs (like I am doing) for more ground clearance. The front swaybar doesn't really need relocated unless you add a front spring lift as well (mine are bolted in stock position, but I will probably be bolting my shocks there instead) I'm looking into the new Pro-Comp Monotubes (300lbs of Nitro dampening per shock!) but apparently it requires some computer engineering to get the correct ones. They need the weight per wheel, length, compression, extension, etc to get them just right. Also recommend making sure your sway bars are relocated... for articulation get sway bar disconnects, but sway bars make a big difference on the road. :) A lot of 4x4 shops will do the work for less then a grand. Don't recall if the last quote I got included an axle and or lift but it was around $800 or so... don't remember... Hey, are you at Ft. Lewis? There are bosses on the factory casting that are not on the GMB casting. These bosses support other accessories. The bushings are an effective way to make up the difference between the GMB casting and the accessory location. - - Landon - -----Original Message----- From: R.J.
