As for power, my '67 GMC with 6V71 and vee drive Allison automatic hauled over 10 tons of my parts and junk to the flea market. (didn't sell as much as I hoped, but I did get it all organized so I could sell my bus which was my home before moving here from Canada) From: "Vince Orr" Subject: fsj: Re: Re: Interesting item on eBay web site item#1856858660: Detroit Diesel 6V92 DDEC 2 used engines With that kind of age on them........I'd want full pm history and how many hours of operation they have. They swapped these out for a reason you know! Used to supervise a fleet of shag tractors with detroits.....the tech service manuals and bulletins filled a couple of 4 inch binders. We chem tested the oil on each pm and actually found problems that required overhaul. Regardless, the engines are very strong and durable for long periods of time. Would be tough to fit in an FSJ but you can always put on a high rise hood scoop! When you step on one of these babies, you'ld know you had something under the hood! Probably twist everything off if you went up anything really difficult though! :) Literally tons of torque..... - - --Vince '81 Wagoneer ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Sep 2002 10:58:16 -0700 From: "Jim B" Subject: fsj: someplace else to check for parts http://www.snort4x4.com/cgi-bin/YabbGold/YaBB.pl/YaBB.pl#buynsell ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Sep 2002 00:17:13 -0700 From: "Mike - G" Subject: fsj: 77 Cherokee on 38" Tires for sale OK, the bidders have preaty much backed out on me. IF you look on the back of the cover there should be two numbers. 40 and 20 just doesn't sound right... There were only two gearsets used in GW's, 2.72 and 3.31. Typically gears with 2.72 ratios (pretty standard for '80s FSJs), would have have 49 teeth ring & 18 pinion. 49/18= 2.72 You'll have to find the two numbers on your diff covers, fore or aft axles, both should have them stamped along with other unintelligable codes. :) In '87 you could have the Dana 44, I think that was the year they started using them again. From '80 until '86 or maybe later, they used the Model 20 rear end. The AMC has a large round cover. >Hanes manual wasnt to helpful. you think? rofl... it's better then Chilton's. But both are very, very, very poor.
