That's down by Lompoc and almost to Santa Barabara! Traffic was heavy today, got off 101 and headed down 1, also heavy... got to the hotel around 4pm... not a very nice area at all... We don't like it here at all. Raul came by to pick up the parts he got from Paul, nice to know someone down here. I've been to LA a number of times but this is the worst place so far. :) I felt more comfortable in Carson. I tell you, the rear end lifted about an inch when Raul lifted that Transmission out. :) I really like the way the headlights were aimed... worked a lot better... ;) Well, tomorrow is the HP World conference, going to get up early... gotta run, john At 07:50 AM 9/21/2002 -0400, Robert Davis wrote: >John, > Well, duh for me! I used to be married to a platinum mythus (she didn't work so well either!) The O2 sensor checks the exhaust for raw fuel and trims back the spray accordingly. Unlike a carb, these EFI systems are supposed to be "smart" and it's not so much how far you push the pedal as it is how much O2 is left at the end of the burn. From: john Subject: fsj: Re: platinum myths Jim, I've been going around with this too. My '99 WJ requires COPPER core plugs. They erode rather quickly, but my fuel economy is superb on this thing. I talked to Jim Startup about it and he says that the Bosch Platinums are pretty bad, but the NGK platinums are fine. I'm thinking of trying the NGK's next time around... Theoretically both plugs should provide more then adequate spark for the fuel/air mixture. The difference is that the platinums do not erode the same as the copper cores. So the copper plugs will have increased gap during use... The only explanation for his loss of fuel economy is he bought his platinums at schucks... just kidding... he probably got the Bosch, which my mechanic despises. I tried the platinums in the little wagoneer, Bosch, and I did notice a drop in economy, but didn't associate it with the plugs until you mentioned this. I think there is something going on with Platinum plugs, but I'm not sure what it is either... the fuel/air mixture theory doesn't seem to make sense... because if he wasn't burning the fuel completely his mileage should go down... right? john ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Sep 2002 21:30:37 -0700 From: "Jim B" Subject: Re: fsj: oh, the insanity...
