I thought they switched to the 232CID 6 in mid/late 1965. You need to use a 6 cyl flexplate (for 727 if you have that or for TH400 if you have that) and get the Hesco harmonic balancer CPS kit. That way everything will be easily hooked up and no other adapters are needed. If you use an XJ rather than a TJ motor, you will need to swap the water pump. One motor mount needs modifying (left) for the early EFI system ('87 to 09/90) because a sensor screws into one of the holes. The brake booster needs changing (I bolted an XJ one on for now, but GM Hydroboost will be better. Any GM diesel light truck or car should have it). A V-8 rad works fine, but if you have a 258, a V8 CJ rad (3 core for Chev V8 conversion) will give you extra cooling for towing. That's as far as I have got so far. I'm trying to get time to parse down the EFI harness so I can get Black Jack rolling again! From: john Subject: fsj: Re: the passing of Woody McFSJ may he rust in pieces... :) not... This would be an excellent time to consider replacing the boat anchor amc motor with a modern fuel injected engine of your choice. Lots of choices out there, but remember you either have to mate the engine to the trans or a trans to the xfr case or the xfr case to the driveshafts... modifications usually required... a fuel injected engine with an overdrive transmission would breathe new life into Woody (or any other FSJ) allowing you to enjoy the best of both worlds. I'm waiting patiently for SuperDawg's full recovery (restoration)... he received an organ donation from a '96 Cherokee, 4.0L and from another XJ an Aisin Warner 4 speed automatic. We're now talking about stretching him 12" to add an "extended" cab so we can use the wonderful seats from the latest WonderJeep (WJ, 99 and up grand cherokee). One of the issues with the J10/J20 cab is limited space. IF you use a set of leather seats from a GW you can't move them back far enough if you're taller then 5'8". For me it wasn't too much of a problem seeing as how I'm only 5'7", but the rest of my family hovers above me at 5'10" and up... :) Whether we extend SuperDawg into a SuperCab or not isn't too big of an issue as I've got a set of leather seats out of an asian import that fit nicely... just looking for another set with heat and power lumbar... if we extend the cab I'll go shopping for the same leather seats that are in my '99 WJ... they are superb, the BEST american car seats I've ever experienced... you can sit in them comfortably for hours and hours and miles and miles... :) john meister ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 07 Oct 2002 16:15:44 -0700 From: john Subject: fsj: Re:fsj magazine At 03:52 PM 10/7/2002 +0000, FSJ-List-at-yahoogroups.com wrote: > Date: Mon, 07 Oct 2002 10:38:35 -0000 > From: "Robert H. Well I finally had the chance to change out that crud, and put in some good synthetic Amsoil. Now I have been using the 10W30 in the USSGW for about a year, and have been very pleased with the results, and since I had a case of Amsoil 10W30 in the shop, six quarts went into that thirsty Navigator. I have noticed since adding the Amsoil 10W30 to the Navigator that it runs more sluggish, and has less pickup. I did not think going from 5W30 to 10W30 would make such a big difference, but the facts appear that it has made a difference. With this thought in mind I am wondering if I could get better performance from both the Navigator, and the USSGW if I filled them with the new Amsoil 0W30. My concern is: will it be in some way dangerous to the health of these big V-8's to run such a thin oil? will it suddenly cause the 360 in the USSGW to spring oil leaks? SO what are your thoughts drop the old Admiral a line, you might do it directly to my E-Mail address since I am currently running in digest mode, and let me know the good, the bad, and the ugly. I actually saw a slight increase in oil pressure going to the series 2000 0w30 in my 4.0L! Amazing stuff, almost looks like ATF... :) so rest easy and go with the thin stuff, you will see mileage increase as well. I started out using 20w30, dropped to 10w40 and might drop to a lower viscosity... the engineer I talked with said there would be a slight increase in fuel economy each time. :) john At 11:16 AM 10/8/2002 -0400, B.
