So if I {- cross a PF11 with an appropriate brand (WIX, Hastings) I can use that one, {- right? Probably... But I wasn't sure if the ones I had blow off were due to the model number or just a "bad batch". BTW, I couldn't find the first one to test, but since the second one blew off right there, I tried putting it back on, and it felt like it got snug as I tightened it, but then it "popped" loose like if you tighten a plastic bottle cap (like on a Gatorade bottle) too tight. Anyway, they should've had the same open end as any that should work on our FSJs. I learned that trick awhile back since they have different numbers listed for different years, but the oil pump fittings seem to all be the same (at least for the 360s and 401s, and I assume 304s). Then I noticed if you open a Fram package, they have a letter/number stamp on the open end, and the ones with the same number have the same end fitting (rubber ring, thread width and count), and the only difference usually is the length of the filter. (And sounds like bigger/longer filters should be better.) The PF11 is the longest I've found, is normally in stock, and is _almost_ a close fit on some engines, but I haven't had found any that it wouldn't work on yet. So now I use those on my '88/360 and my '74/401. (I think it might've even been listed as the "right" filter for the '74/401.) BTW, the "magic number" on the open ends of Fram filters to look for is "3A". (I think the "proper" filter for the '88/360 is 3675 -- that's definitely the one I saw listed for an '85/360.) So in summary: look for a Fram filter (or compatible brand) with a "3A" on the open end. But maybe avoid the PF25 or PF35, or at least watch it really carefully. Or if you prefer another brand, try to match it. I hope to come up with a list sometime of compatible Fram numbers. I've used about four or five different ones over the years. - - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ----- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Nov 2002 21:05:15 -0600 From: "John Pettit" Subject: fsj: 1964 Ford Fairlane Hey guys - I was wondering if any you guys would be interested in a 1964 Ford Fairlane? This will be our 3rd edition, and the first 2 were VERY popular, and I hope this year will out-do last! The first year, it was a bit complicated to order, pay, etc; then last year we streamlined it by offering web-ordering. One way or another, this year will be just as simple to order, we will accept cash (in person), checks, and credit cards, and we are going to offer once again to put YOUR FSJ in the calendar!! The first step for everyone is to show interest in buying a 2003 Full Size Jeep Calendar for only $17.00! This years edition will be produced on much higher quality paper--actually the photos will be on a HIGH gloss/photo cardstock, making YOUR Jeep jump right off the page. They will be made up of 13 of the best judged pictures that we receive (1 for each month, and 1 for the cover), based on quality of photo, type of FSJ, modifications (we LOVE radical FSJ's) and type of picture (beauty-shot or on-the-trail; we want BOTH). AT THIS TIME, PLEASE DO NOT SEND IN YOUR PHOTOS. As mentioned above, I need to gauge the interest level in these one-of-a-kind calendars that you will find NOWHERE else. Last year we got near the 125 calendar mark, and the first edition we nearly topped 100; so I want to see what we can do this year. Again, the previous 2 years were met with RAVE reviews by those that purchased them (as many may attest to after reading this =8-) ), and this years will be about a 100% IMPROVEMENT in print quality over the last 2 editions. And better yet, the price is staying super low at only $17.00. Shipping to be done at USPS rates, with no 'handling' fees or mark-ups; I'm guessing in the $2 range on average for 1st class mailing. Additionally, as we did last year, we will offer discounts if you order multiple copies: 1 FSJ Calendar= $17.00 each + shipping (if required) 2 FSJ Calendars= $16.00 each + shipping (if required) 3+ FSJ Calendars= $14.50 each + shipping (if required) So, all we need now is to hear from YOU--and how many FSJ Calendars you would be interested in purchasing-Don't forget, these make GREAT gifts for your mechanic, your local 4x4 shop, or those of you who have friends/relatives that share our interests in the BIG DAWGS!! Please e-mail ME DIRECT with your potential interest, and also, let me know if you are interested in submitting YOUR FSJ for consideration in becoming part of the 2003 FSJ Calendar. E-mail ALL questions, comments, and interests to: mwelle-at-bridgecenters.com Once there is enough interest (which I'm SURE there will be based on the last 2 years!), I will begin taking your digital photo's via our FTP system so we can accommodate larger file sizes. Also, file requirements/suggestions will be published at that time. Thank You all for your time, and PLEASE respond NOW-as I would love to offer at least the first batch to be delivered PRIOR to Christmas, in case anyone orders one as a gift...so send me your e-mail, and let's make THIS YEAR even better than last!! LOL. I thought replacing a windshield was a female dog? ;-) I know I had to take mine back half a dozen times or more, leaked all over, then on the top on one side, bottom of the other, then top both sides, etc., etc., till they finally told me to take it somewhere else and they would pay for it. 6 months of pure aggrivation. That was Safelite Auto Glass, a national chain. I went through 2 other local shops before I found one that did it right. The first time they worked on it. Jack Morris Auto Glass in Memphis/Raleigh area. I've got access to a couple of parts Wagoneer's right now, but I have to pay for what I pick. If getting the glass out is really a trick, I'll probably break the silly thing either taking it out or putting it in. It'd just be my luck. What happens at the edges? Does it press into a rubber gasket and seal over itself some how? It doesn't look like the glass is siliconed into place. I seems to be under a rubber lip. I guess I'll find out more about how the glass mounts when I get my hands on the truck. It's still up in KY waiting a windshield install and I've only seen pictures of it. I was REALLY hoping to be able to go to the parts yard and pull my own glass then install it myself to save the most money possible. The windshield is running something like $265... whee! Thats big money to a poor guy... LOL... I really need to get into this so I can replace it myself.
