Lewis, Parts should be easy to find. They used that motor basically from about 1970 through 1992. :) Plenty of sources for parts. I recommend NAPA or other high quality sources for parts. These motors tend to eat starters for some reason, the cheaper parts stores have rebuilts that don't hold up. You'll want to replace all the vacuum lines and tighten the intake manifold and carb base bolts from time to time. That'll help your economy and keep it running well. The Automatic does NOT cool when in Park, so if you're idling for a while you might want to do so in neutral with the parking brake on, carefully... Synthetics of any brand are recommended to help cool and lube, I sell amsoil so I'm partial to them. ;) You can buy from my website, they'll ship direct to you. But if you can get synthetics at the base exchange, go for it. Also, it's easy to swap in a more modern engine too, if you're so inclined. I'm installing a '96 Jeep Cherokee(XJ) 4.0L into my 1983 J10 (SJ) Stepside. :) Hope you're able to stay in NC and miss all the fun on the other side of the world for awhile. I was stationed at Ft. Jackson, SC and Ft. Gordon, GA. I was a US Army Signal School instructor in the early '80s. :) My son is planning on joining the Air Force in July or so. You also should get on the FSJ list for support and advice. There are folks down in your area too. :) see my sig file for info on getting on the FSJ list. :) semper fi and all that kinda stuff... ;) john meister (former SSG (E-6) US Army 1974-1982) At 07:41 AM 3/25/2003 -0500, Smith Cpl Lewis A wrote: > Hey, my name is Lewis Smith, I am a Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC.
