(which is what I was getting with gasoline on my carbed 258 with 999 automatic and 2.72 gears.) Current gear ratio is going to be 4.10 with a .75 overdrive automatic and NV241OR transfercase with anti-friction lubricants wherever possible. Sure the truck is a flying brick, but I have some mods planned for that as well! (future plans are a hybrid electric for highway cruising to boost the economy about 5-10 mpg more) Fun part will be the looks on faces when people ask me (probably sarcastically ) how many gallons per mile I get and I tell them it doesn't use gasoline! LOL! From: Subject: Daily drivers To: mail-at-amc-list.com My daily driver is a 1965 American, 232 AT. On a good day at less than 60 MPH I can get about 25MPG, around town I get less than 20. On a recent trip to the coast (45 miles one way) I averaged 23. I drive this 35 year old car every day unless I am freeway flying. If I am freeway flying I drive my 1968 Ambassadoe 343 AT. Not sure of the miliage, but I bet it isn't even 15. Your average SUV gets at least 20 MPG over all, i bet. There are some puny SUVs out there, not all of them are the big barges. I look at the people who bad mouth SUVs and they might be driving a 70s or 80s barge. I saw someone with a sticker saying "no blood for SUV oil" and they were driving a smoke belching Buick Electra. My point is, and I will not chime onto this SUV any more, the gas miliage and bulk of them is no worse than the average car on the road. When we all start driving late ninetys four banger econobox droid mobiles (shudder) after all the mandatory crusher laws go into affect, then I will listen to the people who harp about them. But while we all have a variety of cars; EV2s, electrics, deisels, bio deisels, hybrids, 4 cyls, 6 cyls, 8 cyls, muscles, sports, yadda, yadda then let and let live. And notice Caddy coming out with the V12 (hopefully). I will gladely keep feeding my gas guzzling Amboat and AMX happy in the knowledge that I am not contributing to the waste of manufacturing an econobox for me so I can get 15 MPG more. Nuff said, I'm off the SUV wagon.
