Sold my '76 Jtruck real quick (3 days) on there. They post it on the newsgroups for you. Speaking of Jeeps, if I get the early Jeep J3000, I want to swap the frame so I can use my other SOA axle in the front. (Anyone got a 6 lug or extended M715 frame?) From: john Subject: lowered price on '99 WJ Just lowered the price on my '99 WJ to $14,950... the gal that wanted to buy it couldn't come up with the sales tax... :( Need to sell it soon... still no job... ROTFLMAO! I'm going to send it over to the AMC list and watch the fireworks! The 327 AMC motor was built from the Nash V8 race engine. V8s weren't used for tractors back then. IH bought motors from AMC, not the other way around (AFAIK). I had an AMC 258 motor in my '80 IH truck. the 304 IHC used IS NOT related to the AMC 304. IHC bought AMC 401 motors for their trucks, and called them 400, so people wouldn't confuse them with IHC's 401 6 cyl Red Diamond (had one of those in an old double decker bus in Canada) 401 and the other motors down to the 260 came in 3 generations where the raised the block for longer stroke (just like Chrysler did with the B and RB big blocks. Had a RB 383 hemi in a 5 ton truck that was ex-military, which was one of 2,000 or so made in '61 by Fargo), and shared very little with the 327. The dist was moved to the front and angled to drive the oil pump (ala Buick 350), and the 401/390 block was cast different internally (thicker webbing than the others) The AMC motor is basically a Mid block. It's size is 1/2 way between the Chev big and small blocks with the same bore spacing as the Buick big blocks. As for underpowering your Jeep with a mouse motor, I would keep a magnet handy to pick up the pieces! Better yet, lets do a pull with your mouse against my built AMC 6 cyl (hope to be done by the end of June for my birthday!). I only have 282 cu inches, but I'm looking at 300 HP and 350 ft lbs of torque running on propane with 11:1 compression. You can even run premium gas if you think it'll help! Your 327 'big-block' is just that, A Big Block AMC. Now hold yer fire while I explain. You know the Nash-Rambler-Hutson merger story, It is fact but not many know the actual time referance. Any-Hoo,, American Motors was born. The common joke ( I hate it but it IS accurate ) 'All Makes of Cars' , AMC, while scrambling to meet production demands, used what they had, and anything else they FIRST bought/borrowed from 'The Big 3' , hence Delco and Motorcraft ignitions, Chrysler electronics and drivetrain componants, you have noticed no doubt. But the engines, frame geometry, and manufacturing methods are actually,,, International Harvestor,, that's right,, Cornbinders. The "rambler 3-2-7" or as I know and love,, The VIGALANTE V-8 is or was a IH tractor,Implement, truck motor before Rambler contracted to manufactuer the motors for IH, then when Packard 'pulled' his v-8 , the optioned the contract for the rights to release the Rambler V-8 as the Vigalante. The Rambler motor became known as the AMC big block. AMC motors from 401 to the 265 are all the same size, and the bolt pattern at the bell housing is the same as ALL other AMC motors. The bell housing configuration is the only differance between the IH 327 and the 3-2-7 Rambler. A side note, the size of the block is obviously bigger hence the term big block, but is actually a small block by displacement, and is refered to as a Three-Two-Seven not a Three-Twenty-Seven by those in the AMC know,,,which now includes you and all the other fine people that visit your site...... this I know from my great-uncle who worked for IH in the late 30's - late 50's ( yep right through WWII ) then went to work for the all new American Motors Corperation in the late 50's, and was an assembly worker. Love them AMC, Own them Jeeps , drive a Chevy,,, I plan to swap a BIULT Chevy small block into my Kaiser Jeep J-3000, but I intend to keep the ' Go Anywhere 4 Wheel Drive ' drivetrain intact and use the bullet-proof SBC-TH-400 to power it. I will send you pix and parts lists as I generate them. Hey you guys,,, Keep the Shine up, and the Rubber down, be safe , be smart , God Bless...
