A: Sure sounds like the QT, but don't rule out blown rear diff! (see if the driveshaft is moving, but the wheels aren't) Like John sez, you don't wanna know how I know! (I stuck a bolt into what was left of the spider gears and drove home with a thumping, locked up diff! Didn't have a welder with me or it would have been Lincoln locked!) Don't know if John still has those QTs at his place, but I still want the damaged TH400. I plan to convert my '73 J4000 to a 304/TH400/NP208C (C for Chev because it's RH drop) combo. First, I need to get it running. Been sick all week from food poisioning, so I haven't done much. Put in my first day back at work which was fun because the whole building wouldn't stop moving! Now my son is sick too (we haven't figured out where we ate at the same place) From: "Tacoma White" Subject: fsj: need a remote diagnosis! ok... got home safe after so long away from home, and have to get into the Cherokee so I can drive it again, to make room for the M725 moooahahah The garage will explode if a vehicle is not in pieces inside it. Here's the trouble: Jeep stopped moving under power. Well, at all really.. Engine runs etc, but when the shifter is engaged in any gear, there is a sort of clicking/ grinding, but no motion. I SUSPECT the Qtrac, as my wonderful-but-not-Jeep-understanding wife got 2 new tires in the back that are about 2.5" bigger than the front, and the presence of some worrisome metallic debris in the case when it was flushed and refilled (yes, w/the good juice) the year before. I really, really want it to be the transfer case. Why? you ask? Because I had to get an emergency transmission rebuild and it is pretty fresh, maybe 2500mi on it. It cost me way too much and I don't want to do it again (of course, I'd do it myself this time). Plus it doesn't really feel like the noise/vibe is coming from the tranny. Not an exact diagnosis, I know. SOOOO... anyone have any idea or some tips on isolating the cause before I get into it? Thanks in advance... Going to sell the shovel/axe mounts, the Yakima shield for the front and a couple of the light tabs... Let me know on the shocks... if those N36's are the HD model I need to know the number of the softer/std ones... trying to get this '91 to ride nicely so I can keep it. :) john - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... VOILLA! one kick-arse tow rig!!! (anybody have an aspirin? :) soooo.... i know that's a big spew for my first post in a while, but what do you all think? has anyone on this list been down this road before? anything other than "everything" to beware of?
