(I still have the OEM old springs from my '84 J10 that sat fairly high, but I robbed the thick bottom overload leaf from them and lifted my Commanche 3" with it) From: "Neal Hoover" Subject: fsj: lift springs what's the concensus for a good rear leaf spring supplier that gives FSJs about 3-4" of lift? would those be springs only, or a spring/block combo? (note: the springs that came on my j-truck give it about 4-5" of lift or more. the springs are WAY stiff and are sitting on a 2" block as well. i'm trying to find something that will let the thing ride softer) thanks! oh - something affordable, too. i know i can go to National Spring and get custom packs made to exactly what i want, but i'm cheap. :) Neal A. Only the TH400 and that's just to bolt up the motor to the Buick Nailhead pattern transmission. The Buick 350 can be bolted into the truck and I think they used the same trans, but with a BOP bellhousing (I see the bellhousing frequently for sale on Ebay since I get daily updates on new stuff) I see that T85 was often used as a 4 speed in the older rigs. I guess it depends on whether you want stick or auto as to what you go with. At least the J3000 has Dana 44 front and rear (I'm pulling the closed knuckle Dana 44 from my J4000 and swapping in a Chev 10 bolt to improve steering and brakes) Heck, even an '87 4.0L has more HP and torque than the 327! (the 2.54L '91 4 cyl in TJs is very close!) From: john Subject: fsj: Re: hi fellow jeeper I'd consider getting a driveline out of any full size jeep... I'm not a big fan of the AMC 360, but it'll drop right in. Find one with a TH400 and Dana 20 and I think everything will drop right in without mods to the driveshafts... Of course they did offer the 360 with manual trannies... I'm thinking that a pre-79 driveline will work well. If you're more adventureous consider upgrading to a newer fuel injected Jeep engine... of course that'll also involve axle swaps or adapters. :) Ford? why? A GM driveline would be less painful and less expensive... Of course one of these days I'll build a Mercedes Diesel powered FSJ, I know it's been done before... ;) Also, a Buick 350 could be made to work, not sure if they offered those with the manual trans, but either way there is an adapter ring on your manual tranny... I'd recommend going to an Automatic, the T-15, or whatever is in there is pretty stout, but that three on the tree thing can be a pain. ;) btw, the J3000 is long gone... :) john On Tue, 9 Mar 2004, charles PICARELLA wrote: >-->hi, i saw your j3000 on the internet and i was wondering if you could >answer a few questions for me. >-->I kinda inherted a j3000 very much like yours, but the engine is blown. >I was wondering what other engines will fit in there with minimal >difficulty since finding another 327 is a little rare. I feel your pain. I haven't had a regular permanent day job for over a year. I've been in the IT world since 1974 as well. Terrible market. I'm being forced to play road warrior and travel about doing training, of which I'm thankful for... Anyway, if you aren't able to raise enough support from those among the list that are able to help, do not feel badly if you have to shut it down. You did a great job and I'm sure we'll find something else to do with all the extra time we'll have. :) I've been facing the same situation with wagoneers.com. I managed to work a deal with an emerging ISP in Seattle and will be allowed to move my server over there and keep it going... if I get the system setup and running... So, bottom line, if you do have to shut it down we all thank you for your efforts and truly appreciate the great service you've provided. But paying the mortgage and feeding the family takes higher priority... and if you hear of a UNIX Sys Admin gig up in Seattle let me know.. :) john meister Richard Welty wrote: > This is one of the trickiest things I've ever tried to write. > Hopefully I'll manage to strike the right tone with this. > Apologies in advance if I fail; it's not my intent to > tick anyone off with this. > > I'll start by thanking those who have contributed to the > digest over the years.
