It showed the complete installation, start to finish, of that very kit. Sounds like you might need to fab up some taller jack stands with some angle iron or tubing...I have a friend that did that for his off-roader that was way to tall for normal jack/jack stands. Whatever you do, test the stability of the rig before you get under it and start working, because he ended up trapped in a wheel well when the rig tipped over on top of him. Luckily, he wasn't hurt, just knocked out for a few minutes. He wiggled out from under the wheel well and got out in just under an hour! Maybe that son of your can at least be a spotter for you! By the way, I just got a DVD recorder that I can hook up to my TiVo, so I can actually burn a DVD quality copy of all my Trucks/Rides/Am. Hot Rod/Horsepower/etc. episodes. Unfortunately, my TiVo recorded over the first episode. So I set it to be sure not to delete part 2, but I will have to wait and catch part 1 on a re-run. As soon as I can get both episodes and get them burned off, I have no problem making copies for whoever wants one! It costs me about 25 cents for a DVD and either a paper sleeve or cheap black case and whatever shipping is...probably $1 each would do it. I just hope I can get a rerun of episode 1 sometime soon! I can send you a DVD of episode 2 if you would like, just let me have your address and I'll send one over. If you have a near DVD quality copy of episode 1, we can swap! If you have a high quality mpeg of episode 1, that would do just as well...I could pull that off your web-page or something... If you have a near DVD quality {- copy of episode 1, we can swap! Yeah, I was trying to find #2 on re-runs... Nuthin' yet. Heh, we can see who can come up with the better DVD. ;) I do have experience -- been doing them for three years now, and I have a pretty high-quality grabber, and I have the settings adjusted right. I use DVD Studio Pro to design the DVDs, so I have lots of setup options, not just prepackaged menus. And it lets me do high-quality compression -- I use the dual-pass VBR. Though most compressors may let you do that now. Of course, neither DVD will be the quality of a commercial one. You're still limited to the quality of the satellite broadcast. But it's closer to commercial DVD quality than it is to VHS quality (unless, of course, the original source is from VHS). {- If you have a high quality mpeg of episode 1, that would do just as {- well...I could pull that off your web-page or something... The one on the web page is _not_ high-quality. I tried to keep the filesize as small as possible while keeping it watchable so people could decide if they wanted it on DVD or not. I have no problem exchanging videos on DVD. In fact, if you can use Apple-style mpeg2 streams -- .m2v video file and .aiff sound file -- I can just toss them in a web directory for you. 650MB total. If you have broadband, it would take a couple hours to download (my connection can sustain around 100K/sec upload, so that's the max. download speed you'll get from my home computer). Or I could make a very basic DVD image file and you could grab that over the web. DVD Studio Pro creates .img files, which end up being exactly the same as .iso files, so you just mount the disk image (or burn it to a disc yourself) or whatever you need to do if you want to try a ripper that only reads the .VOB stuff on a video DVD. The disc image would end up being just a little bigger than the raw mpeg2 files. And I haven't tried piecing the other episode together yet. I recorded it twice (two different times), and I may be able to patch some of it together -- but it was dropping out enough on both that I don't have high hopes for getting the entire episode. {- As soon as I can get both episodes and get them burned off, I have no {- problem making copies for whoever wants one! It costs me about 25 {- cents for a DVD and either a paper sleeve or cheap black case and {- whatever shipping is...probably $1 each would do it. Well, if you can do them that cheap, maybe even if we end up using my master DVD, you can distribute them. ;) I've found that the cheapest DVDs aren't very compatible with a lot of set-top players. The cheapest ones I've found that work nicely are RiTek, I think around $0.42 each with white printable tops, and some people with cheap DVD players even had trouble with those. Shipping may be more than you expect, too, at least if you ship them in cases instead of sleeves, and if you figure in the cost of the mailers. Those add up fast, unfortunately. (I sent out a six-disc set to a bunch of people, including internationally, and stuff does add up quickly. But a single disc with a sleeve would be a lot cheaper for both supplies and actual shipping charges.) - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Doughnuts will get you through times with no money better than money will get you through times with no doughnuts. -- http://www.elliskaiser.com/doughnuts/philosophy.html - -------------- Dan Black ------------------------- dan-at-black.org -------------- ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #2490 **************************
