I've been driving my '91 300d a lot of miles, commuting 28 miles one way every day... (30mpg) and have been so busy I kind of spaced the concept of an oil change... so 13 months into the current usuage I drained and replaced... had 17,482 miles on the amsoil synthethic 0w30 series 3000 Diesel oil... I've been kind of dreading the oil analysis report figuring I'd get chewed out by the lab. (They've actually called me and told me to change my oil immediately once when I had an injector fail and didn't know about it!) Anyway, I open up the report, and it's almost all A's all the way across, only two B's. And this without even doing the recommended filter change at 6 months. The suggested range for the synthetic Diesel oil is about 15,000 miles, and then using analysis after that. I usually never go this far, sometimes about 2x the recommended factory interval. (the factory interval on dino oil is a guarantee of a rebuild) I'm running the 15w40 Marine Grade Synthetic Diesel oil now, but will switch back to the series 3000 0w30 in about 10,000 miles. The main reason for going to the slightly more expensive Synthethic is the fuel ecomony... I was getting over 30mpg and almost 31 most of the time... now it's dropped to right at 30mpg or just a smidgen below. One thing that did show up on the analysis was a slight indication of potassium... I'm thinking that running veggie oil might have had something to do with that, hard to say... need to do more research. Not having to change the oil but once a year is a nice option, and it's really comforting to know that the oil analysis supports it. I may scan the report in and put it on my website. FWIW, the oil analysis costs about $10, or it might have gone up to $15 recently, not sure. But the reports can tell you a lot about your engine no matter what kind of oil you're running. john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Sep 2005 19:19:45 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: fsj: where's the popcorn? I would appreciate any advice you could give me. >-->Thanks, Mark great minds think alike. :) I'm currently putting a 6.2L into my '83 J10 stepside... I would think it might be ok in a CJ, they're stout... I've heard of 5.7's in them before. a 3.0L TD from an early to mid '80s 123/126 series would probably be ok in a CJ, although they are pretty heavy... A CJ weighs in at what, close to 4,000lbs, right? I think the Benz Diesel would work in an XJ, they're lighter than a CJ. One of the guys down in New Orleans had built an MJ (xj pickup) with a Benz 3.0L, he loved it, but had issues with the oil pan and axle/steering... might not be as big of an issue on the cj as you could use a body lift/spring lift with some liberty to clear. The real hangup is how to get a transfer case to mate up... :) a divorced case or a custom shaft to mate xfr case and transmission (from the Mercedes) might work... or mating a tranny to the Benz engine... either way, that's going to be the hard part. I may have access to an engineless XJ... maybe... (It would have to be a prior 4.0L setup to fit the 3.0L I-5, my '86 xj is two inches too short to fit one). A buddy of mine just bought my '92 xj with a 4.0 to put the engine into his CJ7. I was going to use the 4.0L in my J10. I like the 4.0L but Diesel is way better. :) john ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Sep 2005 07:48:32 -0700 (PDT) From: Thomas Anhalt Subject: Re: fsj: FSJ tube bumper for sale Hi John, I've "de-lurked" just long enough offer up the bumper :-) I'm doing well...we just bought a new (to us) house. It's in the same neighborhood, but bigger. Needless to say, I'm working OT on various remodelling projects right now. After moving the bumper from the old house to the new, I realized I wasn't going to be using it and figured someone may be able to give it a good home. BTW, you'd choke if I told you what we paid for the new house...then again, you'd choke if I told you what we sold our old house for as well ;-) I guess it's all just "monopoly money"... ttyl, Tom - --- john wrote: > > Hey Tom, how are ya? > > No immediate plans to drop by... :) > john > > > On Mon, 26 Sep 2005, Thomas Anhalt wrote: > > >-->I've got a tubular front bumper (good for an > on-board > >-->air tank) for sale in the SoCal area (Santa > Barbara) > >--> > >-->Make me an offer...heck, I might even give it > away if > >-->you come and get it ;-) > >--> > >-->Fits either wide-track or narrow track. > >--> > >-->Email me for details. > >--> > >-->ttyl, > >-->Tom Anhalt > > ---- > > - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > ** http://JohnMeister.com **** > http://wagoneers.com ** > Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't > rust, they mold > ** http://freegift.net *** > http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** > - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Sep 2005 10:55:51 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: fsj: Re: mirror on a 76 Wagoneer On Wed, 28 Sep 2005, Stef wrote: >-->Hi John, >-->I have a question about the 76 Wagoneer, is it true that the mirror on the >-->rightside differently is as the leftside. yes >-->May be because the left side is cable controlled and the right is stationary ? some of the mirrors are both cable controlled, not sure on the '76. >-->I thought maybe the previous owner had put the rightside mirror on. >-->Can you tell me why, is this maybe from out factory ? they actually came that way from the factory, as an option, will verify that when I get some time by looking at brochures. btw, where are you in Nederland?
