Cleaning out my shop... have the '86 Cherokee Chief left (dropped price to $1350) and Jeep driveline - 4.0L with custom adapter - $750 it's the '96 xj 4.0L engine, AW4 tranny and custom adapater to mate to np219/228/229/208 in an SJ Basically the complete "kit" to drop a 4.0L into a Full Size Jeep, or a CJ. Includes a complete '96 4.0L engine with accessories, flexplate, AW4 transmission, all computers and wiring harness. Includes a custom machined adapter to mate the AW4 to an NP219, NP228, NP229 or NP208. The AW4 typically mates to an NP231 or NP242. Both of those xfr cases uses slip yoke couplers and aren't as sturdy. Using the stock xfr case allows someone to use the existing driveshafts in a Grand Wagoneer or J10. I had the adapter made custom to install this into my '83 J10. The 4.0L in a Full Size Jeep will provide increased fuel economy and reliability over either the 4.2L or 5.9L carb'd AMC engines. And keep it all Jeep at the same time. To install you'll need motor mounts for a 4.2L. This 4.0L has just over 100,000 miles and was overheated. Two of the cylinders read "low", but within the acceptable range. The engine was pulled and replaced with another known engine rather than spend money on labor and repairs. The engine might work as is, but it would make sense to tear it down, check the bearings and cylinders/rings and have the head cleaned up. Will break up the kit if desired. Will sell the adapter separately for what it cost me... about $350. Will sell the AW4 for $250 (with torque converter). Will sell the engine separately for $300 (going core value). Will sell the computers, wiring harness and accessories for $300. Recommend buying the "kit", makes a great "happy meal" for your Jeep project. The engine, accessories, engine computers/wiring harness is in Snohomish. The AW4, adapater, and the other half of the wiring harness is in Centralia. Delivery possible for fuel costs. Could be shipped via truck or FedEx... My next frankenstein project is to take the Jimmy driveline and put it under or in something else when SuperDawg is done... :) I saw a nice white GW on ebay, but since it costs money it's not likely I'll do anything there... :) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Oct 2005 21:37:18 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: fsj: 35 gallons of wvo I learned today that one can fit 7 - 5 gallon buckets, that's 35 gallons, of waste vegetable oil in a '91 300D.. in the trunk.... along with tools and other junk... :) That brings my fuel depot up to 110 gallons in two barrels, 10 gallons in containters, filtered, and the 35 gallons to put into my "last" 55 gallon drum... that's 155 gallons... That's 4,650 miles in the '91 300D or 3,100 miles in the GMC Jimmy or J10. So far I've spent about $100 on these plastic barrels and fuel cans and another 10 bucks for the pump, about $20 more for filters... so about $200 rounding up... of course I've already burned about 30 gallons and given away another 65 to a couple of friends... I still haven't had time to research fuel cells and heaters, but bruce (my friend in the 124 making his way across the great plains in his "new" 124) is planning on taking the biodiesel class coming up here in seattle... from the sounds of it it might not be as hard to do as I first thought... that would eliminate the heater setup and I could run the Biodiesel in my benz as well as my J10 and the GMC... :) STill waiting to hear the start date for the everett position... considering a 10 mile commute I may be more interested in the Biodiesel approach as switching from WVO to Diesel on shutdown and startup could be a pain. I figure the J10 with the 6.2L Diesel should get close to 20mpg... since it has the dual tanks already I may still load the aux tank with wvo and blend biodiesel in the main tank... john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #2519 **************************
