(while trying to be a Jeep in my backyard...) we figured it was the automatic hubs and when I got that 3/4t for the driveline the hubs were swapped out... I think it's actually gone into 4x4 since then, but can't get to go there now... I don't see a vacuum disconnect on the axle and have tried to engage 4wd forward, backward and at every speed within reason... I jacked up the back end today, put it into 4wd high and low, forward and backward... (I also engaged 4wd BEFORE jacking it up and tried to get the hubs engaged by driving up the hill... rear tires spun...) I crawled underneath with the truck off, in park and 4wd... the front driveshaft was locked. That tells me the xfr case is intact, phew... I started it up, put it into 4wd with only the rear end off the ground and the front driveshaft was happily spinning away... that tells me the problem is from the pinion gear to the hubs... axle, gears or mickey mouse automatic hubs... THE CONCLUSION is that the automatic hubs aren't engaging at all, or I've got a broken axle or the pinion gear sheared in the front... I guess I'm answering my own question, easiest way to determine what is broken is to pull the front diff cover and look, or just install manual hubs... Guess I'll look first and then replace the hubs... thoughts? thanx for your help. ;) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Oct 2005 22:41:07 -0700 From: john meister Subject: fsj: ben's garage sale nice items ben, tempted to get that glovebox emblem, but I think I already have two... ;) john FSJparts-at-yahoogroups.com wrote: > > 1.
