Made it there and back safely. (Snohomish to Centralia, ~230 miles round trip) Stopped for lunch on the way down and someone wanted to buy both of the Jeeps... :) ('99 WJ towing a '91 GW) Did some quick math while unloading the '91 GW... we estimated around 15 mpg on the trip down... actual mileage for the 230 mile round trip was right at 15 mpg. That's was towing a FULL SIZE Jeep on a tow dolly behind the '99 Grand Cherokee... You have to love that 4.7L V8!!! A Grand Wagoneer with a 360 couldn't get that kind of mileage driving itself! I wasn't even turned around with the tow dolly and I saw Curtis giving "Omega" the test drive. Confirmed a bad transmission. The rascal had the sunroof fixed before I was back on I-5, he called me just as I was heading for the ramp. :) My wife pointed out that I'm losing it... I spent 15 minutes on it and didn't fix it... ;) I need to focus on my Jeeps more... too much time working on computers. ;) Here's the pictures curtis sent: first ones are the before, then he washed and cleaned up some of the minor issues... I'm starting to like the way this thing looks... 2" body lift, 2" of spring lift and this thing will be quite striking.... :) http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/1991-GW-White/18-May-2006/ REFERENCE: last night's pictures: http://wagoneers.com/JEEPS/johns-May-2006/ Next question/issue is WHAT engine for SuperDawg? I have two 4.0l's, both need to be rebuilt... have the 5.9 boat anchor with a bad trans from the GW... thinking that if the 6.2 Diesel works in the GW that I'll have to find another for the J10. Leaning toward the 4.0L idea as I have a good AW4 with a custom adapter and two NP219s. SuperDawg will likely be a utility vehicle heading to the nursery and home depot, while Omega will be the long haul luxury econo cruiser... hoping to see at least 20mpg overall, and with dual tanks I can heat one and use waste veggie oil or biodiesel and drive cheap. All this Diesel talk has me thinking of finding a 240D I-4 for the 48 CJ-2... :) Of course that raises other issues... will I be able to have the '48 cj, the '91 300d, the '91 GW, the '83 J10 and the '99 WJ??? the saga continues... Of course if one took the entire value of my "fleet" it wouldn't even make a decent deposit on a new vehicle... They may have just found it. Area farmers are planting crops of Mustard and Canola. Seeds generated by the crop are prime ingredients for biodiesel fuel -- an alternative fuel made from vegetable oils. "The farmers in this region are suffering because a lot of (agriculture) has moved out of state and they are looking for alternative crops just like this," said Fertilizer Distributor, Merritt Wolfkill. Four farms in Snohomish County and one in King County will take part in a pilot project. The plan is to crush the crop into oil and see how much of it can be generated per acre -- acres that now sit empty. "It's going to take a whole lot of these little seeds to create one trip to town, but we can grow a whole lot of it," said Farmer Dale Reiner. Farmers would use the biofuel to run their equipment. Making it locally could eliminate the need to ship it in from somewhere else. And with the demand for alternative fuels increasing across the nation, a cash crop could do more than land us on the map. "Well it could make us a national competitor in biofuels and we could consume the fuel we grow, keeping farmers stable and reinvigorating the agriculture economy," said Snohomish County Executive, Aaron Reardon. Snohomish County leaders even dream of building a processing plant for biodiesel fuel. Whether that plan can take root, will begin start to be apparent once the crop is ready for harvest in 65 days. ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- to fry some phish: http://castlecops.com/pirt - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 May 2006 04:34:22 +0000 From: "michel balea" Subject: RE: fsj: adventures on I-5, part deux From: john >>>>A Grand Wagoneer with a 360 couldn't get that kind of mileage driving itself!<<< hummmm i get consistently 17 w the 74.... and up to 18 on I-5 now that i did the TFI upgrade and 14mpg w the 85 GW towing the 66 wagoneer w a tow dolly, and that was going up 3500 feet.....
