(at least on the 400e) the gas I6 is more prone to head gasket leak, once it's fixed, it's fixed. There is a strip on the engine driven fan that can be modified, but the bottom line is not to worry about it unless it goes above 110 and stays there for an extended period. Just about the only way this can happen (unless your wife drives it around with the coolant cap off - don't ask) is if both fans fail. They did a good job making sure the auto trans gets cooled first, then the engine coolant. What is annoying and obvious is the retarded timing when the 400e gets above about 87C makes a big difference in throttle response. That's what we got in 1992 with 10.5:1 compression...but 32valves for $4500 I thought was a good deal. - - Landon - -----Original Message----- From: owner-xj-at-digest.net [mailto:owner-xj-at-digest.net] On Behalf Of john Sent: Thursday, August 02, 2007 5:12 PM To: full size jeep list; xj-list; diesel-benz list; WJ-Grand-at-yahoogroups.com Cc: ABCvoice-at-worldnet.att.net; Cars Subject: xj: couple tech questions couple of quick questions: - - 124: where is the connection for the fans on the '91 124 300Ds? both bruce and I are suffering in this heat... it hit 70 today and when we're stuck in traffic (most of the time) the temp gauge goes up a ways, and a/c doesn't seem to blow as cold... thinking of a manual override... where's the connector? It's not like we're overheating, we're used to the gauge being at 80C. ;) Don't like seeing that needle up at 100, Bruce's goes up higher from what he described... - - '96 XJ 4.0L: anyone know what it costs to have new rings, bearings and gaskets installed in a 4.0L? Thinking of using my '96 4.0L in this '89 Grand Wagoneer... not sure yet. - - '89 Grand Wagoneer... - sunroof manual override... what tool? torx, phillips or allen??? what size? need to close it. :) So, the fleet sits at: '99 WJ Grand Cherokee... pressed into primary service as a tour bus this week. '91 300D, gets a week off. no problems, other than not liking this "hot" weather. ;) '89 Grand Wagoneer - waiting for tabs, title... then detail/cleanup, sunroof, exhaust, engine, tires/rims, interior carpet... Not sure which engine to go with... the existing 5.9L if it can be fixed, otherwise a 304 from jim, or rebuild my 4.0 and use the AW4 setup... '75 J10 trailer - battery charged, ready for the next load. in Centralia: '91 Grand Wagoneer - sitting... curtis has been dealing with family issues and hasn't touched Omega for three weeks or so... not sure how much longer. '83 J10 stepside - still in pieces, since April 2001... have a replacement engine up here for it, with a nice Weber Carb, will keep the 4.2/T-5/208 '67 J100 Panel - in Centralia, it's fate uncertain, most likely will stay there. ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 03 Aug 2007 18:38:01 -0500 From: JeepNut Subject: fsj: OT: Old Phones? I know those garages and sheds are just full of stuff you guys don't want anymore. Well, I'm looking to get ahold of a couple of mid 70's type Western Electric/ ITT touch tone desk phones. (Model is 2500) Heck I wouldn't mind a rotary just for fun. (Model 500) If anyone has one or more of these they don't want any more and it's worth $10 and I pay the shipping would you let me know? I'm tired of these cheap, plastic, lightweight, battery powered, China made, Caller ID equipped things and I'd like to have a couple of what I would call REAL telephones. A receiver that I can jam under my ear and shoulder while I type on the computer. Like we USED to be able to do. LOL THANKS! - -- In my day, we didn't have virtual reality.
