I would but my lovely bride thinks they use to much gas... of course they do, but not nearly as much as a full size jeep, but nonetheless, more than an XJ... We're thinking about driving down to Tucson over Christmas to visit out son, he's stationed at Davis-Monthan until he gets out in February... Ideally Omega is the choice vehicle for the run, but I've been disappointed too many times by curtis... I really thought we had a plan to get Omega done by May... seems that he hasn't touched it in months... :( I wonder how long it'll be before he reassembles Superdawg... oh well... pictures of Old Blue II coming... john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Sep 2007 20:13:58 -0700 From: "Jim Blair" Subject: RE: fsj: transfer cases and J10 stepsides A: I'm trying to corner the local market in Jtrucks (I have 3) one is an '83 longbed Townside, my '84 short box Townside is on it's way to being a "Monster Truck" and my '73 J4000 is slowly falling apart. The NP229 doesn't get better fuel economy in 2wd because the front axle's friction is still slowing everything up. Even the vacuum front axle keeps everything in motion when it doesn't need to be. With my 6 cyl '83 Cherokee 4 dr (and Brian's 6 cyl '83 Wagoneer 4 dr) with auto, I got 3-4 mpg more (that's almost 25% in these rigs!) with the front hubs unlocked in 2wd. With the NP229, if you forgot to lock the hubs before engaging 4x4 and accelerating (or if someone, ie: Kids, messed with a hub), the viscous coupler would go Kablooey in a hurry! It's not an issue with NP208. Subsequent clicks overwrite that window so there aren't a bunch of new windows opened up... I've only tested this in Firefox as anyone that I know is smart enough not to use Internet Explorer. And if someone should slip into my world that only uses Internet Explorer and it doesn't work, well... that person will obviously have other issues than not being able to look at these pictures, but given enough time I may try to troubleshoot it and fix it, more for the challenge more than anything else... :) And of course I will try to educate such a person into the glorious world of open source and all that... Anyway, included some garden shots, but the main reason for the photos was to show how nicely the '89 Grand Wagoneer cleaned up... and of course to experiment with this new format so folks on dialup can view the pictures. I looked at using a gallery tool as suggested by one of the list members(thanx Dave!)... downloaded it but haven't installed it on my server yet... not sure if I have PHP loaded and not sure if I have the time or smarts to set it all up... so I crafted a possible solution in HTML. :) YMMV. If I can get the GW dialed in in the next couple of weeks I might put it up for sale once I figure out it's value... this is the straightest, cleaned body I've ever seen. The frame on my '91 GW is cleaner, but the body is not in as good of shape. The interior on the '89 isn't too bad, but someone cut out sections of carpet... not sure why, but a new carpet will solve the problem... a/c blows amazingly cold, right away... impressive... brakes feel fine... not much to make this thing really nice... if the engine is good... I've been presenting pictures all in one file, which works until there's a lot of 'em: (this file only has about six pictures:) http://wagoneers.com/WJ/99WJ-pix-MtBaker-Sep07/ that was ok until there were 100 pictures like this one: (dialups, don't try this, you'll hurt yourself. ;) http://wagoneers.com/fotos/2007/09-Sep-13-MtBaker-Shuksan-WA/ALL.html so then I tried a thumbnail approach like this: http://wagoneers.com/fotos/2007/09-Sep-17-89GW-garden/ALL.html (which is easy to code, but for me annoying to view, have to move to another window to see...) so, in looking for my notes on Frames, I found a Javascript slideshow on my server, DIALUP types, please try this one: http://wagoneers.com/fotos/2007/09-Sep-13-MtBaker-Shuksan-WA/A-slideshow-Baker.html This javascript slideshow requires some manual work to get the images sequenced, might be able to write a loop to do it... will have to brush up on my javascript to see if I can put the filenames under the image... really small snippet of code, pretty elegant, source info in the file. so, let me know. A) ALL in one file in line B) Thumbnails popping a "new" window with a full size image C) the Javascript slideshow john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #2924 **************************
