While not everything that could go wrong, has, it's been two steps forward and one and a half back... spent all last night setting up the battery trays... coated them with bedliner... came out this morning, all was dry... sweet... went to put the batteries in. oops. I measured, really I did... but with both brackets together and the angle of the frame I didn't have the one side open without a support and couldn't wiggle the battery in... of course it didn't help that I have larger batteries too... :) So, let's see, this is what Plan D? :) One can not say that I am not flexible, or creative... it's not that I change my mind, it's that my mind is changed by the circumstances as they unfold. :) oh yeah, the stock battery tray I got from olympic... isn't right either. will have to modify it to work... scrounging my assorted parts bins for just the right bracket and large washers... :) so, the isolated gel cell idea is scrapped... putting one battery on the frame on the passenger side, moved it back enough to get nerf bars or rock sliders in though... so it's not all in vain. will put the other battery in the stock tray position, run the cables down to the starter and engine... have enough cables to finish things up... this makes the install less complex, and saves about 50 to 60 pounds overall... so the net effect is positive. Using the MPT-91 european style top post 700CCA batteries, will have 1400CCA total. Will run one cable from each battery to the starter terminal. heading back out... and again, someone please contact Murphy... invite him over for the day... it's only noon here, so there is still time for me to get something done before he figures out he's been duped. :) beautiful day anyway, glad I took the day of vacation even if I don't solve all the technical problems. :) john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Apr 2008 22:11:41 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: fsj: success! Omega is running! rewired the batteries and underhood wiring, cranks like a turbine now... it's never cranked like this... bled the fuel system with a pump... replaced one leaky fuel line... still couldn't get it to light... had jonny come over... he checked the glow plugs, and a few other things, didn't find anything... we kept cranking, and it felt like it was going to go... jon thought that it might be loaded up with fuel, so I shot a little ether in it's direction and it lit right off... :) took it up to 180th and down to broadway... running a little rough but it's running... actually ran off of both tanks... still need to fix the fuel gauge for the aux tank. Got home, shut it off and it restarted... a very good sign. the real test is tomorrow morning... if it starts it's going in to work and get the lift installed. :) Then I can start working on the rest of the systems... a/c, cruise, stereo, seats... :) john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Apr 2008 12:34:24 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: fsj: Diesel dreams... well, it took some effort, but I got Omega started this morning... note to self, check glow plugs, fix block heater... :) started to drive into work, decided it might be a good idea to check with shop to see if they could install lift... not until next thurs... rats... turned around and got Shadowfax... no point in repeating the hard starting fun in the parking lot at work, not to mention that I've got a spring wedged under the left front to keep the filter from meeting the driveshaft, the stance is a bit odd. ===================================== went to lunch at my favorite Chinese restuarant, fortune cookie said: "Rely on long time friends to give you advice with your present question." That question, my long time friends, is whether it's really worth all the trouble to build my Diesel 4x4... or if it wouldn't be easier to just buy a good used Diesel rig already... and if so, which one? Dodge, Ford or Chevy? Budget will be around 10K, maybe... and of course that limits what is "good". ======================================= I did see a Diesel Blazer a while back on craigslist... the thing is I really don't want something extremely large... but I do want a 4x4 Diesel that is comfortable... thanx, john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #3042 **************************
