Iowa? mountains? those two words don't seem to fit...

Iowa has beautiful rolling green fields... very nice place... perhaps
nicer than Illinois in many respects...

	upon popular request: :)

here are the pictures of the latest adventure with wheels:

http://wagoneers.com/fotos/2008/07-Jul-31-the-Blazer-adventure/
http://wagoneers.com/fotos/2008/07-Jul-31-the-Blazer-adventure/ALL.html

nothing spectacular... didn't take a lot of pictures...

the Blazer wins the contest hands down... quiet, comfortable, in good shape
overall... couple minor issues to work on, mostly maintenance and clean up.

Midas (a franchise that does brakes and mufflers and has almost killed me
once because of a "free brake check", and ruined one of my jeeps by cutting
a hole in the exhaust and not putting it back during an estimate for a friend)
did the brake job for the previous owner, noticed this morning that the front
caliper was hanging... going to see if they'll honor the warranty...

The windshield is cracked, but not where it interferes with my visibility,
but since the windshield is dirty I may have it changed along with the
one on my benz.

The cruise control works perfectly. The a/c works perfectly. The seats
will be replaced with the WJ leather heated seats... heading over to
the wrecking yard to buy my cloth seats out of the WJ back to replace them.

Will put the stock SJ leather seats back in Omega. Trying to decide if
I'm going to take the IPF 800 series driving lights... a few folks have
commented about all the lights on the front of the Grand Wagoneer... ;)

Looks like my goal of going to two vehicles is going to happen. The Blazer
does what the Grand Cherokee does but on Diesel. Going to get the veggie
oil conversion setup for the Blazer. Will run the Benz on BioDiesel. I
suspect I'll drive my Benz to work to save fuel. My wife shouldn't have
any trouble driving the Blazer if she needs to go shopping. The Blazer
will be much easier to transport stuff... love the tailgate setup. Fantastic
mirrors and visibility.

It was clear within five minutes on the freeway that Omega was history... within
a few more minutes it became clear that the Grand Cherokee was also departing.

My wife started to go negative... noted how much larger the Blazer is than
the Grand Cherokee... but it's not that much bigger and only 0.8 inches
wider than my Grand Wagoneer... so I think we can overcome that issue. ;) The
Blazer does not feel large, not like my '83 Jimmy... that thing felt like a barge.

The Blazer has had a few upgrades... Smittybuilt Nerf bars, rain shields
on the windows, CD changer, the engine has been "chipped", the
turbo enhanced, the PMD module relocated (this is the issue with the 6.5L TDs,
the computer module sat on the intake manifold, expecting the coolant to
keep the chip cool... never worked as designed, so by relocating the module
to in front of the radiator one solves the problem completely.)

I have the original owners manual, looks like I'm the 3rd owner. The previous
owner bought it about 3 or 4 years ago and then upgraded the engine. The
original owner had the boost gauge and cd changer installed. Looking for
the original window sticker, have all the other info in the glovebox... ;)

so, there you have it...

It was a beautiful day... dirty windshield... soon as we got on I-90 heading west
we figured we'd have a lot of fun driving into the sunset... but the rain on our
side of the mountains solved that problem... was surprised to see sun this morning. :)

next on the agenda... emissions test... brake repair, recovery of original
seats for the WJ and then get the Jeeps prepped for sale.

The WJ will be up for $6500. It's a superb Jeep... nothing wrong with it...
Omega is up initially at $7500, have about $14k invested... have one offer
standing right now for $5500.

Trying to decide if I'm going to sell Superdawg ('83 J10 stepside that has
been in large pieces since 2001) as is, or put a driveline in it and sell it
that way... no reason to have it with two trailers... although I may sell
the '47 Bantam trailer... the Blazer won't mind a 2,000lb trailer... stock it
came with about 180hp and 340ft lbs of torque, and it's been chipped... it's
pretty impressive how much throttle response it has... I don't think it's
as fast as my '91 300D, but it's certainly very acceptable. :)

That's weird. For some reason, I thought Cali had a 15K or two.
Wikipedia agrees with you, though, and says Whitney is only 14.5K.
That's not much taller than the ones in CO -- which, IIRC, has 63 or 64
14ers.

But that's also just contiguous U.S. Obviously, Denali (McKinley)
dwarfs all the 14ers, being the tallest in North America at 20.3K.

Heh, since AK has the tallest and would laugh at all the "contenders"
from the contiguous states that don't even hit 3/4 its height, it
reminds me of a joke:

One day the Alaskans got so tired of hearing Texas brag about how big
Texas is that they threatened to split Alaska in half and make Texas
   the _third_ largest state.

I'm about an hour and a half from Tahoe, in California's gold country.
No, there ain't gold in them thar hills no more, but it's still a nice place
to live, with a lot of interesting history.

I thought he was comparing Washington scenery to California's ;)

for fuel these days, especially on a list where most of the vehicles on the

Oh, and gasbuddy.com seems to have links to canada. Looking at that, it appears
as if there's a 10-15 cent premium for diesel over the "caution, may contain

the sierras are nice... if it is too warm, you go up.... too cold down.

As for dryness, there are some incredible remote lakes..... w fireroads so
bad... that it guarantees you premium spot even on 4th of july weekend... wo
any reservations. This is why i have the wagoneer.... really.
