I think my wife is going to try to keep the WJ for trips... doesn't make sense... the Blazer is better suited for long trips... I don't know, think I'll put all three up for sale and see which one goes away and sort it out that way. ;) the '91 Grand Wagoneer with the Diesel around $7500 the '99 Grand Cherokee around $7000 (book is around $8500) and if the guy in the wrecking yard is right (doubt it), the '94 Blazer with the 6.5 for $7000. I think I'll go and talk to the guy at the yard on monday and see if he's serious about buying. :) That will give me enough money to get decent motor mounts in Omega. ;) and maybe a cruise control. ;) I'm surprised the Blazer weighs that much... you wouldn't think a Chevy would be that heavy... pretty substantial frame... doors are heavy... solid... john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://wagoneers.com john's 6.2L GW: http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/Omega/ SAVE FUEL use AMSOIL Synthetics: http://wagoneers.com/AMSOIL - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Sun, 3 Aug 2008, michel balea wrote: # # Looks good..... but 5980lbs... time to trim some fat.... aluminium sheet metal.... nope.... these are shaped like bricks. Initially it started out to replace Omega, the '91 Grand Wagoneer with 6.2L Diesel, with a '94 Blazer with a 6.5L Turbo Diesel. Driving home the topic moved to selling the '99 WJ as well... consolidating to the '94 Blazer and the '91 300D. The Blazer is quiet and rides great... runs on BioDiesel... easy to use tailgate... nice freeway cruiser, leaving the 300D for daily use or short runs... However, in driving around town in the Blazer my wife has noticed that it's too big, and she feels too cold in it... (color of interior? vast cavernous interior and headroom? no sunroof? no seat heater???? ;) But looking at the specs the Blazer isn't that much different: - -------------------------------------------------- '94 Blazer vs. '91 Grand Wagoneer: 0.8 inches wider 1.2 inches longer 2.8 longer wheelbase '94 Blazer vs. '99 Grand Cherokee: 4.1 inches wider 6.2 inches longer 5.6 longer wheelbase - -------------------------------------------------- I really think she doesn't want to get rid of her WJ for long trips, when I mentioned we'd only have to insure two vehicles she shrugged it off... but it gets worse, I'm starting to crack too... (some of you already think I'm cracked, but that's what keeps the list interesting... ;) I like Omega, he is easier to drive in tight spaces, a lighter steering and better brakes than the big Blazer... The Blazer is nice, and with the 6.5L TD unique, but a Grand Wagoneer with a 6.2L Diesel is more unique. Add to this mix the parts guy asking if I was selling the Blazer and telling me what he thought it was worth... selling the Blazer for a profit would give me the funds to have proper motor mounts installed and the 6.2L gone through by a qualified professional, or even swap in a fresher engine... I started to prep Omega for sale yesterday... started to pull the WJ leather seats... just did the passenger side, easily returned... took pictures this morning... http://wagoneers.com/fotos/2008/08-Aug-03-jeeps-n-blazer/ http://wagoneers.com/fotos/2008/08-Aug-03-jeeps-n-blazer/ALL.html Tomorrow I'll revisit the parts guy... if he is serious about buying the Blazer I may just give up on the idea of consolidation and stick with the 300D, the Grand Wagoneer and the Grand Cherokee... The 6.5L TD is a very quiet engine, lots of power, but the economy isn't impressive, and those results seem to be pretty universal among 6.5L owners... guess my best bet is to have the 6.2L properly tuned, add more noise abatement and install better engine mounts... maybe even consider fitting a Banks Turbo to quiet it down a bit while keeping the boost down to prevent stress on the drivetrain. The other thing about the 6.2L/700r4 setup is that I have a much better feeling about the transmission, brakes and steering in Omega... The Blazer doesn't feel as crisp or as nimble... Then you add to the fact that I really like the WJ we have too... we'll see what happens... hours of entertainment... keep that popcorn poppin'. ;) one thing is reasonably certain, the '91 300D will stick around... what I need to do is find comfortable heated leather seats for it... ;) I wonder if those WJ seats would fit... ;) have wrench, do travel... later, john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://wagoneers.com john's 6.2L GW: http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/Omega/ SAVE FUEL use AMSOIL Synthetics: http://wagoneers.com/AMSOIL - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 3 Aug 2008 15:09:06 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: fsj: Re: [db] a reprieve for Omega and the WJ? no pardon for Omega... not looking good for the WJ either... the latest popcorn update... ;) the better half successfully piloted the blazer back from the store... all four corners intact, only minor grumbling, conclusion was it is suitable for a trip to flowerworld... looks like we have a return to the plan... (and for the record, the biggest challenge to these plans is trying to make sure my wife is happy... still learning, it's only been 33 years ;) the BioDiesel factor is winning this discussion, albeit we both recognize that the '99 WJ is a better vehicle overall... Even if we have to go to the pump to supplement what BioDiesel we have it still makes more sense to have two Diesels. If I drive the Benz more frequently we'll be able to save BioDiesel for trips in the Blazer. :) it's looking as though a Blazer/Benz combo will become the dynamic duo... the insurance costs savings of that 3rd vehicle is helping in the decision... my son put forth the idea of having the WJ and the Blazer, but that was ruled out as impractical fuel cost wise... my wife will actually drive more miles in one errand running session than I do in a few days worth of commuting... It's looking like my gathering of WVO will exceed our consumption of BioDiesel if we have the Blazer/Benz combo... allowing us to stockpile for vacation... found a 100 gallon tank with pumps that I can mount on my trailer... so, it looks like the revised (what version are we at now? ;) plan is to go Blazer/Benz, sell the Grand Wagoneer and the Grand Cherokee... hate to part with both of the Grands, but it doesn't make sense to have all these vehicles... only one of us works so if one breaks I can always use the other one... it's just not right to let a vehicle sit around, it's not good for it... the WJ hasn't moved since we brought the '47 Bantam T3-C home. john '94 Blazer 6.5 '91 300D 2.5 '75 J10 trailer, hydraulic dump... and may soon get barrel hoist and extra fuel tank.
