Take a hint from Dodge, who put a 727 backed diesel in a full size truck. You want as tall of gears as you can get your hands on, otherwise you'll be bouncing off the governor going down the highway. Of your choices, I'd almost consider 3.31 too low, but probably will work out being about right if you don't plan on doing 75. Do the math, you've got a calculator :) And if Mark puts the 460 in the CJ10 with 4.88 gears, the tires are NOT going to last long at all. Put slicks on it and take it to the drag strip and see if anyone can figure out what it is. Those tugs look weeeeeeeeird. I don't think I've seen 2.72s in a j10, only a wag... I could go with 3.31s, but have a matching pair of 3.54s on my '80... superdawg has 3.31 front, 4.10 rear... we used his axle (model 20) on the trailer, and pulled the R&P to save weight. Then you'll have to get the AW4 to behave with the computer. Not to mention a column that will work for a three speed automatic in a J10 is very easy to do. 3.54 might work, calculate it out. Can't remember how big of tires you were planning on stuffing under that J10.
