Eric from one of the lists has made it quite clear that trans will be an ongoing issue and the trans shop confirmed it's made from unobtanium... I've found a couple cheap Rangers with better bodies, some with 4x4... manual transmissions, but gas engines... this could be a simple engine swap... provided I remember to ADD the pilot bushing... ;) I'm not eager to take on a massive project like that right now... not for a temporary (HOPEFULLY) vehicle. but it is a thought... haven't heard from the guy with the TDI yet... don't know where to go to look at it.... my son wants it for driving down to the U next year... so I may buy it and the Ranger and sell his 300D. the idea of getting 50mpg with a/c does appeal to me, but the red color is just wrong... so wrong... at least on the ranger it was so horribly faded it didn't look like red any more. :) the guy with the ranger will be unavaiable tomorrow (a good thing) because the guy with the Toyota is back on Sunday... I've heard lots of good things about toyota Diesels.. we'll see... guess I should give it a chance.... The ranger is nice, I liked driving it... but the transmission is an issue and will be... the Toyota hasn't got any mechanical issues, but it's naturally aspirated and will be about as fast as the tug... well, a little faster. :) no contact from the guy with the Izusu either. but that one is less appealing because of parts and an automatic that is known to have issues... I still haven't been able to talk to curtis to see if he will be at least able to reassemble my J10. anyway, any info on the Ford transmissions in the Ranger will be greatly appreciated... no need to worry about an automatic, would be ok, but with these little engines manuals are better. If I could find an AT that would bolt right up cheap then the ranger would be a winner... If there is hope of swapping any other manual trans in that thing and have it just bolt up, again, not worried about driveshaft length and would be happy to convert to 4wd if that worked out... not sure I really want that much project. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to replace the power window motor in the '89 xj and find out if I lost another glow plug in my '91 300D. The '00 WJ will be ready next week I guess... thanx all, john safe to resume popcorn... ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Jan 2010 21:52:38 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: fsj: need this part... :) 85 86 87 Ford Ranger Ignition Coil 2.3L Turbo Diesel http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/85-86-87-Ford-Ranger-Ignition-Coil-2-3L-Turbo-Diesel_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem518f9de746QQitemZ350301841222QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Jan 2010 23:36:09 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: fsj: options/popcorn the TDI is gone... oh well... the jury is still out on the Ranger transmission options...
