If I had the cash I'd consider picking up that Jag. That Jag straight six engine won at Le Mans a few times in the 50's. Box stock the car is plenty fast enough to get me in trouble. That's not a car that you'll really improve by putting an American V8 in. The basket case seems to be the kind of project that i get myself involved in. 70% of the lower sheetmetal destroyed by rust?...might as well get my money's worth out of my welding equpiment. Frame bent? bend it back. How much of living with a full sized jeep is about process for the other people on the list? In the late 90's it seems a lot of people who were on the full sized jeep list were still using them as daily transportation, but that doesn't seem to be the case today. I put 32,000 miles on mine in the 1999-2000 school year (last year of college) and have only put about 35,000 miles on it since then yet I still work on it a lot. John seems to always be building one, only to finish it and then sell it for another one. So how many people's full sized Jeeps are an excuse to go out to the garage, get dirty, use you brain for some puzzle solving and then only occasionally drive the thing? Two leather seats, a non-synchro 4 spd, a removable windshield, wire wheels, and a chrome 1/2" diameter handlebar for the passenger. and a 140 mph badge. and a wonderful straight 6 exhaust note. The Jeep is still a work in process, I'm afraid. Putting on the clutch cover and starter is next. Work, kids, and primaries get in the way. ^PStill targeting Mar 20 Padre Island Beach cleanup for it. But it is a plan to drive it the 10 minutes to work. - - Landon //////// On Feb 25, 2010, at 9:26 PM, wallacem7-at-aol.com wrote: > This 'bringatrailer.com' website looks dangerous....My sports car > mag has a > monthly column called "Ran when Parked". I think Jeremy is going to put a carpet kit in it and put it up for adoption... I'm cc'ing jeremy, but will pass any requests for info on the '89 to him. Out of the 26 FSJs I've owned it was one of the nicest driving and nicest "feel" out of them. Hard to describe... but every FSJ, XJ and Mercedes Diesel seems to have it's own personality... you drive it just a short distance and you're hooked... it feels right, it responds properly, it turns smoothly, it just works... I'd say I've only experienced that with SJs about 4, maybe 5 times... SuperDawg, Old Blue, Old Blue II and one or two others that had issues beyond my enthusiasm had it. Omega didn't have it... it didn't feel right, it was ok, but not right. But a J10 works better for me than a GW... so someone else should get serious about this Grand Wagoneer... :) I had to check it out... but I'm staying the course with SuperDawg, my '83 J10 step side that is getting the SD33T setup.. soon I hope... anyway, here's the pictures of the '89 GW from yesterday: http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/1989-GrandWagoneer-Feb-2010/ALL.html from two years ago: http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/89-GW-Feb_2008/ALL.html from about two and a half years ago: http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/89-GW-Old-Blue-II/ALL.html and some spring fotos from today... that low tailgate on the Caddy is nice: http://fotomeister.us/2010/02-Feb-27-spring-in-the-garden/ALL.html john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 si vis pacem, para bellum http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #3540 **************************
