I've been having some trouble with the SJ starting then dying. Did some t/s and fixed that on Friday...only to come out Saturday morning to find a pool of brake fluid under the left rear. Well isn't that just typical? So after picking up the freshly turned drums late Saturday I finished my impromptu brake job on Sunday and started the truck, moving it 30 ft. fwd. so I could clean the brake fluid off the driveway. An hour or so later, I started truck and was going to back it up to the garage door, but it kinda balked at moving. Didn't think too much about it as I hadn't actually to pull it driven it yet or adjusted the brake shoes. So I pumped the brakes a little, dropped it in gear and it rolled forward, so I put it in reverse and it hesitated, but then with just a light touch on the throttle, it suddenly moved backward and I began to notice this wide swath of GOO trailing all the way up my freshly cleaned driveway.... WT..?? So when a 727, for no apparent reason suddenly pumps fluid out the bellhousing like a Brazos county oil derrick I'm guessing the torque converter or the front seal has gone out... but so suddenly? It seems odd. How does one tell by looking (if possible) that a torque converter leaks? Not a problem to yank the tranny, I've done it several times. But can I tell anything by looking at it once it's out? JeepNut - ---------------------------------------------------------- '92 Cherokee Laredo, bought new, an heirloom. Happened to BMax's '82 Spirit (that I have now and I've been fixing up for my wife) New bolts, tightened up and I got almost a year's worth of driving before the converter suddenly started shaking and it started spewing fluid on start up. (the neck developed a crack) I have to swap the front axle system in, put in the AW4 with 4.0L head and EFI before she gets the car, so probably around June it will be done (once I get the other projects out of my driveway, including the parts car for my Room mate's '68 Rebel) On Sun, 7 Mar 2010, JeepNut wrote: # Well it's apparently Springtime and the Jeep-gods are feeling their oats. # I've been having some trouble with the SJ starting then dying.
