Heh, I hear ya. A friend of mine from work moved into a house a block away from me, but it's in a homeowners' association. I asked him when he was moving in if he was sure about that -- not having any control over what color to paint your house, what to do about trees, any remodeling you might want, etc. etc. He said, no, he didn't care, that wouldn't be a problem, and he loved all the stuff they did for you -- the shared swimming pool, they might mow your yard (I don't remember), blah blah blah. About two years later, he moved out, because he was sick of their crap. They fought him on putting up a post to mount a digital satellite dish, they made him get new paint or siding or something of their choice, and so on. I warned him! Several houses in that area have sold and re-sold two or three times in the nine years I've lived here. I even met the president of the HOA once (turned out to be a friend of a friend), and even she wanted to move out because she was pissed off at how they control everything. It is helpful to have some things somewhat socialized. Insurance is basically a form of socialism -- spread out the costs so the people with really high, sudden, unexpected expenses are covered by the rest of us who have relatively low costs. However, I think those are better managed by private business. The government has proved over and over that they ruin anything related to business that they touch - -- management is horrible, quality is horrible, and prices just keep going up. I believe the reasons for that are (a) they're not trained for that type of thing and (b) they simply don't care (it's not a business, so if the prices are high and quality is low, customers either can't go elsewhere, or the government doesn't care if they do, because they're still not losing their own money -- only the public's tax money). > Required FSJ content. My cousin from WVa is bringing me a rebuilt 727 w/ the > shift kit installed when he visits next month! YAY!!!! finally get my wheels > back... And my ob-FSJ content: Anybody know of anybody who wants to buy a FSJ? I have an '88 GWag and a '74 Wag, both with good 401s, both for sale. The '88 has homespun fuel injection that still isn't tuned quite right - -- so if they have a knack for that, or wanted to convert it back to a carb, that might be the best thing to do. (It also leaks a bit of engine oil and/or transmission fluid -- probably would be a good candidate for stripping it down a bit and putting it back together, but it's not bad enough to cause real problems -- I just top them off now and then, and I haven't had any issues.) The '74 has plenty wrong with the body and electrical (and now the brakes), but the entire driveline is awesome. Engine runs great, has the Quadratrac, etc. I'd consider that a driveline for sale, with attached wheels and things that might let it transport itself (depending on distance and stuff). Both engines were rebuilt; both are bored 0.060" over (so should be 412.7ci, IIRC). ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 May 2010 20:59:59 -0400 From: "Neal Hoover" Subject: Re: fsj: Re: RE: Invitation from Moontanman how true, Jeepnut!
