Excellent. That was what I was hoping to hear. When you talk about using the newer intake and computer, do you mean instead of the one that I already have from the Mopar kit? Why so? I'm thinking I'd want to keep the MPI kit's intake and computer since the P/Ns are called out for the CARB EO. For ease of smog check purposes, I think I want to basically make that 4.0 "look" like it's actually a 4.2 with an MPI kit as much as possible. Heck, I might even paint the block/head green ;-) ________________________________ From: john To: Thomas Anhalt Cc: fsj-at-digest.net Sent: Fri, December 3, 2010 4:59:32 PM Subject: Re: fsj: Long time, no post...and an engine swap question. should bolt right up. and yes, you have the makings for the stroker. I just swapped a 4.0 in a WJ last year, got the engine out of the rubicon, bell housing was the same as any other 4.2 or 4.0 I've ever seen, have pictures somewhere to confirm. I would recommend getting the computers and using the MPI setup on the newer 4.0 for the best results. john On 12/3/2010 4:17 PM, Thomas Anhalt wrote: > Hi All, > Tom Anhalt here in SB. Hey Tom! If you have the 99 or later intake, it fits different than the '91 to early '99 intake (brackets, etc are different) and I recently found out the newest intake MAY even clear the stock brake booster (mine is still in pieces but I have an '83 that I can test fit one on in springtime or at least whenever the snow leaves Mt Index long enough for me to get in/out) My '84 J10 is still awaiting the wiring harness swap (health issues almost stopped me altogether till recently and all my helpers had to go home to Canada) from a '91 XJ Im parting. A couple of later than '99 4.0Ls don't have the holes for the mounts drilled, but the bosses are there, and they changed the waterpump. The newer head '00 to '04? With coil on plug has a cracking issue (flaw) that was fixed with the Rubicon. The newest intake flows the best. > Date: Fri, 3 Dec 2010 16:17:49 -0800 > From: theanhalts-at-yahoo.com > Subject: fsj: Long time, no post...and an engine swap question. > To: fsj-at-digest.net > > Hi All, > Tom Anhalt here in SB. Tom, If you get the entire thing I would like the rear cargo cover if it has one. (any color) What color is the interior? What sound system? I may be interested in a few pieces of the Infinity Sound system, like the wiring harness going into the main amp under the back seat, and I think one of the plastic speaker covers on a door, but that may have been a different WJ I owned. I understand the issues you face with emissions... here it's so easy to resolve... like when I put that 6.2L Diesel into my '91 GW, I just changed the title to Diesel. That was it. They didn't even pop the hood to look. We don't have to emissions test anything older than '86 here. here's the pictures of the WJ 4.0 swap I did http://wagoneers.com/WJ/tech/4.0L-teardown-2000-WJ/ http://wagoneers.com/WJ/tech/4.0L-teardown-2000-WJ/teardown-part-one/ALL.html http://wagoneers.com/WJ/tech/4.0L-teardown-2000-WJ/teardown-part-two/ALL.html the last picture on both of those series shows some of the manifolds. I don't care for the 4.0 in the WJ because it didn't do as well on the freeway for economy as the 4.7V8. In town the 4.0 would get about the same as an xj, 16, while my 4.7 gets 14-15. On the freeway my 4.7's on amsoil will get as good as 21 mpg, while the 4.0 I had barely got 18-19. I think the transmissions made a difference, they used the 42re on the 4.0 (same, but improved? as the ZJ). The 4.7 uses the 45rfe. Hope you get your black Cherokee running again, and i hope that one emblem falls off... ;) http://wagoneers.com/JEEPS/trail-reports/Camino-Cielo-March-1997.html http://wagoneers.com/JEEPS/trail-reports/SantaBarbara/ great memories from that adventure, thanx again for those tri-tip steak sandwiches, they were awesome.
