Good reviews, but with cloth seats my wife made a face and said I should just fix the 300D. Have to agree. Then I pressed my luck. Got her to agree to sell the trailer and the wj and replace it with a J10, the J10 is a place holder for superdawg. :). The profits from all said sales go to the bathroom remodel. See guys, if you want something you have to make sure she gets something too. :) 36 years in Nov. :) - ------Original Message------ From: Edward Pomeroy To: J Subject: Re: [db] Ot: question on car Sent: Mar 20, 2011 11:46 John The last gasoline VW I owned was a 1974 transporter with the standard 4 cyl air cooled with manual shift. My Jetta TDI is like yours a manual so I have no feedback on how their automatics do these days. Maybe someone else on the list has an automatic variant and can comment? My wife is also agitating for a more relliable automatic second car so I am looking at old volvos I can repair on my own. Price wise Jetta seems to be in the right bracket - 4 to 5 K if very clean and well maintained. Congrats on that. Thanks for the picture of the emergency brake cable, I'm missing the second tensioner, if anyone has one lying around, I may want it. The J10 here is running well all things considered, and found that a poor PCV setup is causing oil leaks. On my Wagoneer, it would not run with the PCV hose unplugged, this one will still run. I think I have the wrong PCV valve. Also, does it matter if it is hooked to the front or the back grommet on the valve cover? It was even smoking a bit, and getting the PCV valve to flow better reduced that as well. Sure causes lots of problems when that's not right. Did some more bodywork, but it's putting a finger in the dam. - - Landon //// On Mar 20, 2011, at 6:15 PM, Jim Blair wrote: > That looks like the same one I was checking out in Oregon. Everything works... no rust... no issues... the incoming J10 will replace the WJ/trailer combo for garden duty and of course the obligatory 4x4 service should something get stuck here, or should it snow again... not likely this season... and I just missed my J10 a lot... soon as SuperDawg is done the white J10 will be looking for another parking spot. I have no plans on upgrading or modifying, just making it 100% mechanically sound and as original as possible. it took a little while but the logic of this arrangement finally took hold... hey, if anyone is looking for a way to get from Portland, OR to Seattle... have I got a deal for you... all you have to do is put enough gas in the J10 to drive it up here... :) and I might even be persuaded to reimburse you! ;) john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Mar 2011 08:13:00 +0100 From: Michel Balea Subject: Re: fsj: fleet update imminent: 1983 J10 townside long wheel base Looks good, cannot even see rust on the bed.
